Title: How to test CSP's Without Brawl! Say NO to magenta lines!
Post by: NerdWithAnAfro on August 29, 2009, 03:34:51 PM
EDIT: before doing this, please read what other people have said, because there methods may suite you better, though if your too lazy, use this one.

This is a guide for people that know how to make CSP's and want to test them without waiting 5 minutes for common5.pac to compile, waste 2 minutes putting the files on the SD card, and waiting 3 minutes for brawl to boot up just so they can realize there are magenta lines all over the CSP.

Step 1. Create the CSP'(s) (if you don't know how, find a guide) BUT DON'T INDEX IT YET! in the case where your testing a CSP you already indexed, sorta reverse the process by changing back to RGB and RE-DO the alpha layer.

Step 2. Go to Save As, but we aren't going to save it as a TGA, we are going to save it as a .tiff file. MAKE SURE ALPHA LAYERS ARE ENABLED!

Step 3. minimize the editing software you are using and go to where you saved the .tiff file. There should be a preview icon over it, and as you will be able to see, there's no magenta in the background. this does not mean we are done though.

Step 4. Backup your background image for this in case you have one that you cant get back, because you going to make this .tiff file your background.

Step 5. Analyze the image, if you see magenta lines, then you go back and fix them, if not, index, Save as TGA and compile because you already had a perfect CSP!

Questions and Answers

Q. what is a CSP?
A. The picture that appears above your name in the Character Selection screen.

Q. How to i make one of these "CSPs"?
A. Find a guide, if someone has one that i could link onto here, please inform me immediately.

Q. On this icon, it looks like it has magenta lines and i cant fix it, what should i do?
A. it turns out for some reason, all of the icons have REALLY thin magenta lines around the picture, which is why we make it the background of your desktop.

Q. Why do we make the .tiff file my Desktop Background
A. Because you didn't read the Q&A section of this.

Q. My CSP doesn't show a small icon, what should i do?
A. Check the file, it may have saved as a .tif file (one less F), so go back to save as and this time, add a .tiff to the end of the name of the file

A. Your Awesome!
Q. I know that, but why are you exclamation something everyone knows?

Q. I have a question that isn't answered here, what should i do?
A. Just like almost every other forum guide there is, post your question and i will answer it!

Um.. You know, you can just go to Windows > Dockable > Colormap in GIMP, and color out the magenta line very easily than this.

Or you can do this.

Hvae a transparent backround, index with transparency on.

Go bakc to RGB.

Add a layer under iwth magenta.

And index without transparency.

Here's a method I came up with for fixing this problem, I haven't tested It so I don't know If It works. It should work though.

Open the default CPS image.

Fill It with Magenta.

Make your CSP image and index It.

Copy and paste It on the the Magenta filled CSP image and index It again.

That's It. Like I said I don't know If It works but It should work.

Well, this is the way i do it:

Edit your pic so only the background is gone, and its resized to correct size

Select all the transparency around the actual character with the selection on high

Only the transparency and the outline of the character should be selected now, and then press delete

Then use your method to see if you missed any thing, and go back if you did

(This is the method I've always used only before I just zoomed in close on it while the magenta was in a BG layer and checked for it manually)

I just use black instead of magenta...

well, I use green when making the mask
(fill whatever's not green with white and fill green with black, then blur)

note: the mask is the transparency black = clear, white = take a guess
