Title: Help with CSP issues?
Post by: The Following on July 02, 2011, 01:52:43 AM
First, I want to apologize in advance if there's already a topic here with this same idea... I've gone through 20+ pages and seen nothing like this...

Alrighty then, let's get started...

Like most people on this forum and around the internet, I'm having a difficult and quite frustrating time trying to get my Character Portraits for the Character Select Screen to work... I've honestly read dozens of topics and more posts than I care to count and I got nowhere... I have Gecko OS, but I use Riivolution 1.04.. Also, I don't use ANY custom screen pack and I did not rearrange anything on the CSS... All I care to do is edit the Character Icon Pictures and Character Select Portraits... that being said... EVERYONE seems to have a problem here or there that SEEM really similar, but the help offered on posts doesn't help everyone...

One person might say, "Well make sure you're common5.pac is in the pf/system folder." and someone might reply, "and make sure it does or does not have _en at the end"

Some people said to reduce the size of the common5.pac and try that or if you're using Gecko OS to put the sc_selcharacter.pac in pf/menu2...

Others said to make sure the photos were the right size and all this other stuff you can check using BrawlBox..

I just want to say.. I've done ALL of that... I've read just about every tutorial that I've seen people link in their messages offering help and followed all the advice I've read perfectly and for some reason, I still get nothing... and all my character textures and stage textures work...

So my idea is this... Everyone who has WORKING custom CSP's... instead of posting what you think my problem could be (I do appreciate the help though), could you kindly post the following...

1. What version of Gecko OS or Riivolution you're using.
2. If you're using Riivolution, what hooks (or whatever those things are called) do you have enabled or disabled.
3. The size and EXACT location of your common5.pac or sc_selcharacter.pac (name all paths starting from the drive your SD Card is located in, all the way to the .pac file you use).
4. Whether your .pac file does or doesn't have an "_en" or someother suffix after the name.
5. What version of BrawlBox you use (not sure why, but some people say that matters).
6. Whether or not you're using a custom screen pack.
7. If you're using an SD or SDHC card, and what size it is.

I may be forgetting something so I'll update the list if necessary, but I think if anyone posts all of these things, then people could mimic the look of someone else's WORKING SD Card folders..

They might see something they haven't done, or they might delete what they have and try X's collection of what he or she uses and see if that works for them as well.

I don't want to sound pushy, so I apologize if I do, but I REALLY wanna get this to work and I think this method could help many others too

so it's been a few days and there are plenty of views on this topic... I would think at least one person who viewed this would have working CSP's and be able to help me out... Can someone help?

EDIT: now just to clarify... is your common5.pac in "X:private/wii/app/rsbe/pf/system"?

I tried you're method and it freezes right after the strap menu... What's your hook setting on Gecko 1.9?

I'll explain this as simple as I can:

Open Brawlbox.

Load your common5.pac.

Click the + next to char_bust_tex.

Find the characters CSP that you want to change and export it.

Open in a picture editing program. (Example: Adobe Photoshop)

Open the picture you want to replace it with in said program and edit it to your liking.

Copy and paste your picture over the one that was from brawl.

If using Adobe erase the original layer. (Which will erase the original picture.)

If your current picture has white around it then erase it.

Save.

Go back to BrawlBox and click replace on the CSP you want to replace.

Click on the picture you just edited.

Profit!

If you're trying to change the picture of their Icon then use the same method as above, however you'll find those files in: MiscData[70] in your common5.pac.

I appreciate the help, but I did all that already... I have the pictures in the correct format.. I have them in the correct place... I've done everything that every guide here has asked and everything that every help topic has said to do... and for some unknown reason, I can't get the CSP's to work... It's getting more frustrating every damn day... but that's why I asked for people who have working CSP's to post the info I wrote in the first post.. so I can see if someone else's method might work for me since the way that most guides have it set up, isn't.

Listen I'm not trying to be mean here, however if you have actually followed the guides properly and still can't do it then you messed something up on your end.  Try this guide: http://allisbrawl.com/forum/topic.aspx?id=144811 (http://allisbrawl.com/forum/topic.aspx?id=144811)

If you're using regular Riivolution then this should have all the info you need to get it set up.  Follow it step by step.

If you try using Gecko you'll need the sc_selcharacter.pac.

Riivo ONLY needs the common5.pac for what you're trying to do.  Make sure it's named common5.pac without the en.  If you do everything correctly and have your file directory set up right then it will work.

That one I couldn't COMPLETELY follow, because the link to Bionic's modlauncher.xml at the beginning of section 2 is down... I Googled it and only found regular mod launchers, so if you or anyone here could post it, that would be awesome since I guess I'm supposed to use his specific mod launcher.

And could you please explain to me what brawl +, -, ubrawl, classic, and custom 1, 2, and 3 is?... because I'm looking at the XML file to see how I form my file directories, and I don't know which one to follow... I don't use any screenpack at all, just regular old brawl.. So I would assume that I go with classic, but I'd rather be sure with some info from someone who knows what they're doing.... I know this is a "noob" question, but I'm a noob at this.

those are mods for brawl you can download those at http://smashmods.com/

and yes, brawlbox version matters, if you have the newest modset, that's what causes the freezes I guess, because, the newest modset has a bug that screws up your files.

and also, If you're a PAL user and you have a common3.pac file, make sure that the common3 is from the PAL ISO.

and yes I mean common3, thats the one for custom Item textures...

Title: Re: Help with CSP issues?

I'm not a PAL user... I use the regular american version... also, my BrawlBox is version 0.63d... Is that the one that screws up? and if so, what version should I download?

Title: Re: Help with CSP issues?

I've been having the same problem, and I've started thinking it may need it's own Ocarina code. I think a custom CSS for the Character Selection Menu needs one for it to be enabled.

Could there be any other possibilities?

which version did you use before modset 0.63d, or didn't you use any other brawlbox version before
if you had newest one before, you realy have to get a new common5.pac, your common5 may be corrupted.

I don't know for sure if your common5.pac is corrupted, maybe you just haven't save the CSP's ?
check your common5 file to see if you actualy have some changes in it... because, you never said it froze on you so I guess they aren't appearing?

Title: Re: Help with CSP issues?
Post by: The Following on July 13, 2011, 10:07:32 AM
My directory is set up like this... X:private/wii/app/rsbe/pf/system

when I put the common5.pac Or the common3.pac in the system folder, they don't show up in game... It doesn't freeze, they just don't show up... but if I change the name to common5_en.pac, it freezes when I try to enter the character select screen.

then I changed my directory to this... X:brawlmods/textures/system... according to the link that TruePhilosopher provided

and when I put the common5.pac in the system folder, it freezes right after the strap menu screen.

So I don't know if it's the way I set up my directory... I doubt it because all the character texture, stages, and music mods I added work perfectly... it's just the CSP's I can't get to work... Not sure if this matters, but I don't have a screenpack either and I don't intend on using one... I just want my brawl to look normal with different CSP's.

And if it is a corrupt common5 AND common3.pac... then where do I get ones that aren't corrupt?

I tried using the common5 that came with the new Viewtiful Joe and I got the results I posted above... then I tried the common5 and common3 in the following link, and those don't seem to work either.

http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=bf68243dc4c908b28d78a0e5552916095d6170349cac00195be6ba49b5870170#w401mkcnkb6wa,1

So, beatthat25... can kindly make a list of the things you're currently using in the format that I created in the first post of this topic? and post the way your file directories look?

Maybe that way I can set up m SD card like yours, and this can finally work for me.

yeah sure, but first you use riivolution right? I made a simple guide to use riivolution so check that one out first here it is:
http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=23125.0

and also, here's a common5 with custom csp's in it, they are from brawlminus, use this one..
http://www.mediafire.com/?qwltt3nglxoz0o8

and okay here's the list :P
1. I used the newest version of riivo, but since I Don't use riivo anymore I don't remember actualy xd... I'm using a usbloader, CFGusbloader to be a little more specific...

2. When I used riivo, the only thing that could be enabled/disabled was "file patch replacement" and I enabled that...

3. G:\Private\Wii\App\RSBE\pf\system
   File size of my common5.pac --> 10mb/10333kb
File size of the sc_selcharacter inside the common5 --> 2,35mb

4. No _en as I'm using a usbloader, when I used riivo, I used an sc_selcharacter_en.pac, so yes with _en.

5. Modset 0.63b

6. If you meen something like a starterpack... no
If you meen a brawl mod, yes I use Brawl Minus.

7. 2GB SDcard

I followed your guide... in my riivolution in the root of my SD card, should I only have those three files? because I have it set up like that, and when I load riivolution on my wii, it only has one thing on the menu.... it just says File Replacement Code: Disabled or Enabled.... that's it.. there are no other things there and no page 2... So is there something in your guide that you may have left out? because according to your guide, there's no "config" folder in the riivolution folder, and on several other guides i've read, there are... you said there should be several things listed on the riivolution menu, and for some reason, I only have one thing... and that one thing is something you said should be Disabled.

no the file replacement thing must be enabled, but the actual code from phantomwings has to disabled, and on the second page there should be the ocarina stuff... >.< and that cofig stuff.. I left that out because I didn;t need it, riivo made it automaticly for me...:P so I think you forgot to put the ocarina stuff in the riivolution folder, but that doesn't matter much, only if you want to use codes... so just enable file replacement if you start riivolution enable the FPC (NOT THE FILE REPLACEMENT CODE FROM PHANTOM WINGS!! you don't need the File replacement code with Riivo) That's what I said,

so what I meen...The code from phantom wings should not be in your gct file, but on the riivo page, you have to enable that replacement option >.<

Title: Re: Help with CSP issues?
Post by: The Following on July 14, 2011, 10:07:20 AM
I did that though... I added all the things you said to add... I added the codehandler and ocarina XML document and the SSBBfiles XML document to the riivolution folder in the root of my SD card... And when I start my wii and go into the riivolution app... It only has the File Replacement Code option... there's nothing else I can select, and there's no page two... just that one thing.. I can't figure out why I don't have anything else to choose from.

EDIT: I don't have a .gct file that doesn't have phantomwings codes in it... The .gct file I have has his code in it, so if you know where I can get one without it, could you post a link or just tell me where and I'll go find it.... I also wanted to know where should I put my .gct file for riivolution... I know that it goes in the codes folder when using it for Gecko OS, but does it go somewhere different for riivolution? or does it stay in the codes folder in the root of the SD card?

same folder, and you can make your own, just search for a program called codemgr or something, and paste the codes you want in a txt file....

and right upper corner is an arrow you have to click on that to go to the second page and also you don't NEED a gct file, but if you want, you can use one

I know there's normally an arrow in the upper right corner to change pages... What I'm saying is that it's not there... That's what I meant when I said there's no page two... It actually isn't there... and the only thing on page one is the File Replacement Code option... there's no other hooks or anything... At the top it says File Replacement Code and on the right it says Install, Launch, and Exit... the rest of it is blank.... Why are CSPs so annoying to install? It seems like it's supposed to be as easy as everything else.

yes, in fact, I can get them real easy to work but, uhm, wait, I don't know when I'm finished, but I could try using riivo again, and then I'll just upload everything thats on my sdcard, then use all those files, that should work:P
By the way, you did put the ocarina xml/ocarinahandler.bin file on the riivolution folder on the Root of your sdcard?...
That's why you aren't able to see the second page I guess, and you may have renamed the common5/sc_selcharacter wrong, it has to be
common5_en.pac and sc_selcharacter_en.pac
so if you named it like, common5.pac_en, it's obvious that it didn't work :P

Title: Re: Help with CSP issues?

Yeah, I put those files in the riivolution folder in the root of my SD card.. and I did name the common5_en.pac and sc_selcharacter_en.pac files properly... but it hasn't been working for me.

but if you could upload your SD card that would be awesome... because if for some reason it still didn't work then at least I would know that the problem was my SD card.. Then I could just go to the store and buy a new one.

If you upload your SD card, and the problem does turn out to be my SD card... Do you have any brand recommendations?

I included a sc_selcharacter_en.pac (its from brawl minus btw) and all the files you need, and everything is on the right spot,

and if you take a look in SD:\riivolution you notice the folder "config" and you do not realy need it, but if you delete it, riivolution will just make another one, so yeah...

but before buying a new sdcard, you could try re-formatting it or something

That's it... I quit... nothing works... I tried your files and they don't work for me... I tried reformatting my SD card and that didn't work... I tried using a new SD card, and that didn't work either.... Do you think that maybe this problem may have to do with my wii being v4.3u?

To be honest, that may be exactly why.

4.1 and above usually have the most problems from what I've read.

well then I just may rip my own face off.... If it's not my system version, then why the hell won't this work? I've gotten everything else to work... I'm about to just hang it up and move on... I'm literally out of options at this point.

i dont understand why this is so hard to some, all you have to do is replace an image in brawlbox and DONE, but if you are having to much trouble, you can send the file to someone(or me) and they(or me) could try checking what`s wrong

I know how to use BrawlBox properly... I've changed the pictures in my common5.pac and put the .pac in the system folder and that didn't work.. I loaded the game, but the custom pictures weren't there... then I changed the name to common5_en.pac and it froze when I tried to enter the character select screen..... Then I extracted the sc_selcharacter.pac and placed that in the menu2 folder and when I started the game, the pictures weren't there... then I changed the name of THAT file to sc_selcharacter_en.pac, and that froze the game when I tried to enter the character select screen.... I don't have any accounts on any uploading websites to upload it to you.. but I don't think it's the file.... I've used several different common5.pac's from several different people and locations, and not one of them have worked... I'm heavily considering downgrading my wii, but I've heard that can do irreparable damage to the console.

you can upload it to mediafire without an account, if you upload them, give me a link and i`ll test it when i get home, and i`ll try to find the problem

But if it turns out that the file isn't corrupt... I don't know what to do... I just might try to downgrade my wii if I can find a way to do it safely.

Hey guys, I have had problems with CSP replacment as well and am hoping to get some help. I am currently using riivolution with only the code option disabled and the game crashes when I try to enter the character select screen.

I recently uploaded my files to mediafire if anyone would be willing to test them and maybe tell me what is wrong. The file includes everything I have currently in the brawlmods folder in the root of my sd card.

Here is the file: http://www.mediafire.com/?nev130nvi8ny5yw

Also if it helps to know I am trying to replace DK's CSP with Shadow's in conjunction with ShadowKongV3.
I'm hoping to be able to figure this out as well since CSP replacement has also become a pain for me.

Hey there if you have a Sc_selcharacter2.pac file..delete that. It will freeze your game if you edit it too much. Also tell me ALL the files that you are using for Example: Common.3, Selmap.pac.

Here's the link... http://www.mediafire.com/?x4hg0x7ad5klszr And thanks for the offered assistance. But if it turns out that the file isn't corrupt... I don't know what to do... I just might try to downgrade my wii if I can find a way to do it safely.

well there must be somthing going on, try using a clean SDCard with no other hacks on it, just the riivo setup + your csp's

Today I did what you said.... I tried a clean SD card with nothing on it but riivolution and the common5.pac..... I started the game and it still didn't work... Any other ideas?

EDIT: WHOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!

I finally got this friggin thing to work!! Smiles and newborn kittens for everyone!!!

If anyone is having trouble... I'll tell you what I'm currently using so you can use the same and see if it works for you.

But I wanna take this time to thank Xion, TruePhilosopher, Person, and especially beatthat25 (for helping out more than I thought anyone would).

Ok... first I need to know

1. what version of BrawlBox you're using
2. what riivolution are you using... basically how is yours set up.. (if it's beatthat25's method, or BeyondYou's (now called Beyond, or the way it's set up in the N00B's Guide, or some other method)

I don't think I'll need anymore info from you than that, but if I do, I'll just ask.

QUICK EDIT: I'm heading over to my cousin's place in like 5 minutes... so I'll get back to you around 9 or 10 PST.

1. I'm using BrawlBox v0.63d
2. Not sure what it's called but I found my riivolution here: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=300872
The only option I disabled on it was the code option.

:srs: did i help that much?

Nope, but you offered and that's counts just as much in my opinion... I've been to several different forums and not just for SSBB, and I've asked for help before on certain things, only to be met with zero responses.... And when someone did reply, they'd say something like, "Oh, I won't help because that's a noob issue and you should know that already, blah blah blah, I'm a [censored]."... So my thanks to you is a thanks for offering your help.

And to HyperShadow115...

1. Download this Riivolution.. It's Beyond's (formerly BeyondYou)

http://www.mediafire.com/?wr2m5x6u4g4casl

Replace the Riivolution folder in the root of your SD card with the one in the download... Make sure that your RSBE01.gct does NOT have Phantomwings file patch code... It can have other codes in it though.... but if it has Phantomwings code, it will freeze... The ReadMe will explain what you need to do.

2. Follow this link...

http://smashbrosfiles.blogspot.com/

You'll see "SSBB File Types" in bold yellow letters... right under that it says "Tip", then below that it says "File Types", then below that it says "Tools and Software"... Click the "Show" button next to "Tools and Software".... and download BrawlBox v0.63b.... Chances are your problem stemmed from using v0.63d.... 0.63d messes up the common3 and common5.pac's during file compression.

Do that, and see if it works and let me know what happens..

Quick Note: when you launch Beyond's riivolution... DON'T CHANGE ANY SETTINGS... just click launch.

Haha I got the CSS working with Shadow's image! Thank you so much that was very helpful!
The only thing I am still confused about is how to change the in battle and results screen icons. Do you have any idea how those are replaced?

you have to replace them in the info/portrite folder
place the InfFaceXXX.brres files there, remember that every brres contains 1 battle portrait

But what about the actual icon and name not the portrait. The icon/mark and the name aren't replaced in battle and on the results it's the same and stocks are also not replaced.

those are textureless models and cant be replaced at the moment

Really well that's lame. You would think that if you can change the mark on the CSS you could replace it in battle. Oh well, at least I figured out how to change the CSPs.
Thanks for all the help everyone.

NO, I mean the ones in the result screen are textureless models, the in-game names and icons are in the info.pac

Oh where do I find the info.pac and where do I put it in the SD card?

Title: Re: Help with CSP issues?

you can find a info.pac in the resources page, and you put it in X:\private\wii\app\rsbe\pf\info2

Well it seems I can't download the info.pac so what should I do

Happy to help... and I can see that Person is already assisting you with your current questions... and to be honest, I'm not sure how much help I'd be in that department... I have a few different Character Battle Screen portraits, but those were already made and came with hacks I downloaded... All I know there is that they go in the portrite (yeah, that's how it's spelled for some reason) folder that's inside of the info folder that's inside the pf folder.... OR in a less confusing way X:private/wii/app/rsbe/pf/info/portrite..... An example would be the cloud battle portraits that I have... the file names for his six battle portraits are InfFace331.brres, InfFace332.brres, InfFace333.brres, InfFace334.brres, InfFace335.brres, InfFace336.brres... all six of those go in the portrite folder...... as far as how to make battle portraits.... I don't know how... I've never tried to make them.... Maybe it's like making a CSP, but again, I have no clue.... Hope this helps.
