Title: So has everyone made the switch over to Riivolution??
Post by: hypermetalsonic on July 27, 2011, 05:37:21 AM
Wasnt sure of anywhere else to post this... Sorta considering making the switch to this riivolution method to brawl hacking because of the few advantages is has over the original way (being able to swap out voices, change intro vid.. and more? I assume..)

How different is the process compared to the "regular" way of Brawl hacking? (dunno what my way is refered to as..)
Will it still use BrawlBox? How about my CSP's and all that jazz?

I don't like change...  :af:

..oh, and is it true that Riivolution requires to read from a retail disc? Cause thats pretty retarded if so.
Playing brawl hacks from my usb reduces freezing my 99%.

Idk, I'm still using Gecko OS because I don't know if RiiVolution reads codes or .rels.

usbloader, i live in the uk, so the only brawl i can legally play is pal(which i do own btw), which doesnt have any of the good codes ported to it, and require for you to make your own rels

The one thing that makes Riiv better to me is that it doesn't start whining about file-size limits on the files. Aside that.. not much is different between Riiv and Gecko that i know of.

I use the USB Loader anyway so i use neither.

Riivolution does load codes and rels, you need the codehandler.bin and for rels just put in module folder or stages folder like on beyond you's its straight foward from gecko os :af:

Download Ocarina for Riivolution: http://www.mediafire.com/?q3jndjlldyn
Download Beyond Yous riivolution for gecko users: http://www.mediafire.com/?8vj8809jx1nc8po

Hope this helps you:)

Actually, if you use your own  XML files, you can just dump all your hacks into one file without having to use the private folder and all the other folders in-between, if your lazy I guess. How in any way is that complicated?

The whole transition process, then adding stuff after you've transitioned.

It reads EVERYTHING. It replaces more files than Gecko OS.

Um, I can't use Riivo since my Wii is to up-dated =_=
What do you mean? ?_? Riivo works on 4.3

Just get Riivolution v1.04
-----------------------------
Riivo isn't complicated to setup.
I set it up in about 10 minutes. :s

The codes should be in "SD/codes" i believe (replace SD with the drive your SD is in)

use this version of Riivo http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=16990 it reads Gecko OS codes.
THANKS FOR THE LINK!!
Didn't relize Beyond made something as useful as this :)

Had no problem setting it up.. But I notice my codes from USB loader didnt register? (like an alter'd Character Select screen layout, unlimited camera angle???)
What changes do I need to make to my code.gct file?

i use Gecko OS... i prefer it over Riivo, and for the sounds, i just import them into the brsar file, then import it into the iso file. i find that easier for me to do. as for the videos on the iso, i dont even mess with those cause i dont need a new intro xD

oh hey, I also noticed I wasnt able to get brawl to recongize the OPMovie.thp with Beyond's Riivolution app??
Does it support it? Cause I've seen screenshots of the Menu for Riivoultion on a different site with much more options than what appears on his version..

Beyond You's only has the w/ code option and hook.. thing...
(my gecko OS codes arent recongized either... sooooo, yah)

Riivo was complicated at first, so i wrote my own xml code to make it to my liking.

Its well worth it because of sounds and thps.

I still use Gecko OS because

1 - Alternate Stage Loader doesn't work with Riivo
2 - General Loading times are shorter with Gecko
3 - I can eliminate the loading times in startup by moving certain files out of the common.pac files. This doesn't work with Riivo.

I guess riivolution is as superior as I thought it out to be..
Still haven't gotten my OPMovie to work, about ready to give up and go back to running it off from the USB loader...

Lol and I use NeoGamma.. just to be different.
No but, Gecko stopped working on my wii.
So now I use NeoGamma.. and it works perfectly.. if not better actually.

USB Loader > All
^this
USB loader all the way this like to have Gecko OS  that support .brsar files
(Since file patcher code can work on some USB loaders)
+ work for both PAL and US(if using a US .iso)
just have same SD card setup as Gecko OS but replace .brsar inside the .iso :D

it takes me a logn time if I edit the iso. up to 2 hours jsut to replace sfx. i try not to replace it a lot. so i want to use riivo once i fix my wii

I'm sticking to Gecko, for the time being just so I can have things switched out and replaced quicker, I might try RiiVo later, but I'm not worried about Sounds or Movies for the moment.

What do you mean? The USB loader fo sho can change voices and Vids too! for vids you just have to put them in pf/Misc/OPMovie.thp *for the opening* and for sounds just put them in pf/sound/*voicefile*  Note not another folder like the music just straight in sound it is that easy. Just so you know for sure I have mewtwos voice over lucario and it works fine and I use gecko! Then I also have the opining vidieo as the sky high xD. And once again I have GECKO! just fo yo info.

ps. *random comment coming* panel 1  r)
Panel 2  :-*
panel 3 *Girl's father walks in*  :o
Panel 4  :'(
Panel 5 The End! for him at least.

Pss. no idea where that came from.  :af2:

Use Wiiscrubber -> custom SFX in Gecko.

well yeah, you can do that. but replacing the .brsar takes forever, with the risk of corrupting the iso. >.<

I use Riivolution and have customized it to the way that I want it (Read: Heavily). Works really well for me, considering I have an 8gb SD card and 6 different modsets on there (Brawl+, Brawl-, BBrawl, P:M, a Machinima setup, and my customized hack setup). On an SD card Riivolution is awesome, but it is incredibly slow if you're running it off USB. On the other hand, if you use USB you can still use the SD card for photos and replays and stages. Also, with this you can replace SFX without using an ISO at all.

The thing is though, the alternate file loader and alternate stage loader doesn't work on Riivolution. I have a couple of theories to try out involving the FPC and such with a lot of directory manipulation, but otherwise it's impossible. Also, the load times are slightly faster, and if you have a USB loader it is much better to go that route. As everyone else has said, if you use a USB loader you can still change SFX in wiiscrubber. If you use a disc with gecko, you're screwed.

So, if you have a working Brawl disc and have a good sized SD card (or a USB drive) like me, Riivolution's probably the way to go and a lot easier to use if you set it up right. If you really want the alternate stage and file loaders or use a USB Loader, Gecko's the answer.

The only thing I dont like aboout Riivo. is the fac tthat you need XML thingys. I used it for NSMBWii before my sd card got stuck, and i was confused. but once i got the xml, thingy, it was great. i replaced songs, changed textures, and everyting. i tried it once on brawl, and i couldnt get ocarina codes to work. that is why i never used it for brawl. now that i cant use discs, i cant lookinto using ocarina codes.
