Title: How To Edit Items With No Hexing
Post by: ピカノ on June 20, 2009, 09:10:08 PM
(Originally posted by VILE)

GUIDE:

You will need:
Ash (with ntcompress and TexConv)
SSBExtract (can be found with ash)
Wiiscrubber 1.21 (or trucha 0.21)
Lz77ex
A SSBB iso
Basic knowledge of ASH
SSBBinsert (and all the files that are in the .rar file)

Setting Up:

In C: create a folder called "items" and from ASH copy these files into here: ntcompress.exe, cygwin1.dll, SSBExtract.exe, SSBBinsert.exe and lz77ex.exe.

Ok here's how its done:

1. Open your SSBB iso with wiiscrubber/trucha. Navigate into "parition2 > ROOT > system". Now in there extract common3_en.pac to "items" (the folder i told you to create earlier).

2. Drag common3_en.pac into lz77ex.exe, wait for it to say "press any key to continue" and obviously press any key to continue. Once that's done rename the common3_en.pac.out file to common3.pac.

3. Now drag common3.pac into SSBExtract. You will now have a folder called "common3", with in that folder you will have many .pac and .bin files, but all you will need is 003.pac, so delete everything except 003.pac.

4. Drag and drop 003.pac into SSBExtract. There should now be a "003" folder with 66 .pac files (these are all the items). Refer to the bottom of this post to see what .pac file represents what item.

5. Get the item you want to edit and edit it in ASH like normal.

6. Once you've got your _new.pac rename it to the number of pack file you edited (eg: 024.pac).

7. Drag ***.pac, common3.pac and 003.pac into your items folder.

8. Now go "run > cmd". In cmd navigate to your items folder (type cd.. then hit enter to go back 1 folder and type cd "foldername" then hit enter to go to a folder).

9. In cmd copy an paste this command in: SSBBinsert.exe 003.pac -i ***.pac . (Remember to change *** to whatever file you named it to). Minimize cmd as it will be needed later

10. Repeat step 9 but with this code instead: SSBBinsert.exe common3.pac -i 003.pac .

11. Now go back to cmd and put this command in: ntcompress -l -o common3modded.pac -A4 common3.pac .

YOUR DONE!!!

NOTE: For SD loader, in your system folder rename your "common3modded.pac" to "common3.pac"

NOTE2: For multiple items repeat step 9 for each item you made.

Post if your having some trouble with this (if its confusing tell me and i will fix it up) ;)

--001.pac - Broken Eddible Peanuts

How does that part work exactly?  I'm going around collecting item hacks that I want to combine into a future common3, and one of the hacks is for snake's grenade, so is it 001.pac or 064.pac?

Which Folder Should i Use if i use Cheat manager/Gecko OS to run the cheat File Replacement for the texture hacks?

Maybe

SD:\private\wii\app\RSBP\pf\items ?

... really?

Dude, the sd loader loads ANY file that is not streamed. It goes in 1 spot and 1 spot only, isn't that blatantly obvious?

Title: Re: How To Edit Items With No Hexing
Post by: TheFirstZero on July 08, 2009, 07:40:20 AM
Is this method any different if we're using the SD loader?

Because I thought that the effects and FS' were a bit complicated and then all I did was copy-paste the .pacs I downloaded and it worked that simple. I know most of these guides are for editing whatever subject, but all I want to do is apply them.

I know it's a bit a noob question but I don't know anyone else who can explain it better than you guys.

The method is exactly the same for SD loader, if you read my above post (or the even the guide, for that matter), they both say that these can be loaded with SD loader.

Title: Re: How To Edit Items With No Hexing
Post by: TheFirstZero on July 08, 2009, 08:25:23 AM
The only thing is that all of the guides state that I need ASH & SSBExtract and some other things although I've never used or even download any of that stuff I was able to simply apply effects and FS'

I'm just stuck on doing this,

SD:\private\wii\app\RSBE\pf\items\ (and inserting a item.pac file in here)

Now that I've tried that I know there's something I'm missing of doing wrong.

Follow the guide and put the common3.pac in your items folder.

Well now I'm having trouble on step 8.
When I use those commands it just tells me that it isn't recognized as an internal or external command.

I've tried doing it from my desktop and my SD directories, both from folders named "items".

*Sigh*, you know the folder you created at the start? Yes, that folder is where you navigate to with the CMD (I don't see any point in me posting this, since it is already stated in the guide).

It's ok Vile, I pretty sure I can find this out on my own via trial & error.

One thing though, understand that there's just some people who aren't as good as the moderators around here, & these guides (although I know they're as clear as possible, & they are very helpful) may not be so simple to a first timer. What I'm saying is, no need for the demeanor, a simple redirection would fit your message just fine.

(Being completely honest) Thanks for all your help Vile.

Im sorry for being a [censored] about it, its just i see so many questions that are similar and they just start to get old after a while. I understand how it is when you are new to this, i could barely hex textures. Again, sorry for being a jerk.

Impossible, i inserted them once and it worked fine. Are you using a PAL common3 or a second hand common3?

im using the right one OO_o i know i am and idk why it does that i have to rename ur items cus the 003.pac has 3 .dat files in it so it screw up the item nubmer order ive tried numbering them as in the guide but that didnt work either

I followed the directions, renamed "common3modded.pac" to "common3.pac", and placed it in the directory "pf/system" on my sd card for the SD Loader, presuming that's the folder it goes into. All it does is freeze my game upon starting. Why is this? Wrong folder?
Also, I used some already-edited item pac's to insert into the common3.pac. Would this affect the result in any way?

Is it bigger than the original common3.pac? Ive had SSBBarc insert things badly before, you will have to manually insert it.

Actually, I got 2 out of the 5 items I wanted to work. SSBBarc said that the other 3 items are too big, but I checked the original items and they appear to be the same size.

Results:
Brawl Assist Trophy from Nintendo Bros's common3.pac - Works
RoyMaster4's Capsule - Works
Red Metal Box from Nintendo Bros's common3.pac - Says it's too large
RAWRzilla's Awesome Face Smash Ball - Says it's too large
RAWRzilla's Slowpoke Stopwatch - Says it's too large

I don't know why it doesn't work, but if anyone wants to try these 5 items together to see if it can work, that would be great.

I wanted to put in the Green Unira in the Nintendo Bros. pack and assumed that in Vile's list it was the spike ball and put in 056.pac as the input, but nothing happened. Later to find out that it replaced the food. I'm not sure if maybe wrong item IDs is what's causing the size problems, no necessarily sure but it's just a speculation.

However I did use the Nintendo Bros. Red Bomb-omb and it worked normally, I've also tried Vile's red shell and it also said file size was too big. I'll try and experiment with the IDs even if it comes down to me using mr. saturn as a smart bomb.

I finally got it to work! The item list is correct, but you have to rename the pac differently when you're finished editing it and ready to inject it into common3.
This is a post by Bluz from the SSBB Costume Hack Community forum:

Ive never had to add numbers. But a lot of people get that problem, it must be the way SSBBarc extracts.

why don't you just copy the text into Word or something? That would help.

step 8: "8. Now go "run > cmd". In cmd navigate to your items folder (type cd.. then hit enter to go back 1 folder and type cd "foldername" then hit enter to go to a folder)."

I don't get it...where do I find "run > cmd"?

Go search and type "run", then in run type "CMD". In vista you can just go to your start bar search bar andjust type CMD.

Alright im a little confused on this one. Is there an easier way to do this without having to use all these programs? For example, when I add a character texture I put it in the "Fighter" folder. When I add a stage, I put it in the "Stage" folder. When I add a song, I put it in the "Sound" folder. I dont understand why I have to go through Wii Scrubber, Ash etc. Like I said, is there an easier way for me to just put the pac/pcs in the "Items" folder? What is the Common3.pac? Where can I find that file? Yes I already read the guide already last night and today and still doesn't register in my brain. I dont want nobody flaming me, im just asking a question.

No, it has to be in the common3.pac or else it wont be read.

Hey, I'm still having some problems.

I did manage to get lots of textures hacked in, which is great, but some of the hacks still end up with the message that it's too large. And yes, I am using that new list where I add +1 or +2 to some of the values, but I'm still having a problem.

Any help?

BrawlBox solves all your problems now.  This guide was for before BrawlBox's existence.
