Title: Oshtoby's Stages - Melee Battlefield UPDATED (01/19/2012 3:45 PM)
Post by: Oshtoby on September 29, 2011, 11:32:35 PM
MELEE BATTLEFIELD
UPDATED JANUARY 19th, 2011!
It's Melee Battlefield, as dark and mysterious as you remember it. All texture errors are fixed. It's been completely re-imported to give it a proper shader. Grates have been added to the top level. The crystal has been added, and the glowing part of the bottom crystal had been moved to the proper center of the crystal. This is the Battlefield all you Melee fans have wanted since Brawl came out. Have fun, kiddos!

Hey Oshtoby, do you use 3D Ripper DX or 3DVia Printscreen to capture your models?
This is a good effort for a short amount of time.

3D Ripper DX. Works well enough for what I do. Never used 3DVis Printscreen. I may look into it if it works better, though...

Anywho, next, I'm going to go COMPLETELY out of my league, and see if I can get Venom working, with an imported background (as I have that ripped from Melee as well). We shall see.

Very good job to all who imported and fixed Melee BF.
Definitely going to use it.

One thing I noticed though is that the collision was hand made, rather then using P:M's BF collision (which surprisingly fits the stage perfectly when used ingame).

Small changes to the edited version by KTH. Restored the rainbow colors and fixed the hole (it was my fault)

EDIT: And fixed some issue with the shadow system

Dude, seeing how you have 3ds max. can you import an OBJ for me? i want to see if the extreme amount of POLY'S (over 180K) would cause lag.

and would you mind putting it over Corneria. cause that's what the stage will be based off of. (the model has no texture. but a UVMAP so a basic white or blue texture will do.)

Is that why the textures look so wierd? I thought it was just an error in the rip. Oh. Well. That explains a lot. I'll get on that later today. I'll make and post a texture data .BRRES with fixed textures once I am home from work.

Hey Oshtoby, fixed Battlefields Platform textures to be more like Melee's. :)

Original:

Edited:

Melee:

Let me know if you want them so I can PM you the stage, (comes with ds22's collision edits).

No, that's not what they look like in Melee. KTH uploaded a version with WEIRD textures earlier, and everyone's been building off of that since.

Example:

My textures are ripped STRAIGHT from melee, just, I made them a little darker than they should have been. They do not look like a grid of lines, they look like some odd circuit-board pattern.

As far as texturing the thing, I knew what I was doing. Wherever there are rainbows on the thing, there were rainbows in Melee. The only difference is that there should be a black thing with holes in it that shows the rainbows through it over top of the rainbows, like a grate. That will be fixed in the future.

As for now, the textures are fine (I will make them lighter, as well as fix SEVERAL texture problems that I just figured out how to fix, and upload the fixed stage when I get home) but thank you for the thought.

Title: Re: Oshtoby's Stage(s) - Melee Battlefield DOWNLOAD
Post by: Oshtoby on October 03, 2011, 10:53:19 AM
I knew how they looked, but everything i tried didnt work.

I tried lightening the textures you had and stuff, all failed (for me atleast). i even tried the rainbow thing, but non of my tools allow me to make my "pencil" smaller than 1 pixel square. :/

So i tried my own way, as a temporary fix until better texture came about.

Cant say i didn't try though... :(
Oh well......
My apologies for coming across as aggressive. But yeah, don't worry, man, everything's cool. If you could would you want to do me a favor? You seem to be a texture and recolor wiz. Would you be able to go into my stage, extract everything that's in the TextureData[1] part, and make all the textures -45 in brightness and +45 in contrast? I planned on doing that when I get home, but if you would do that, I would love you. You can skip over any texture that is a duplicate (believe me, there're a lot). If you do this, I'll be able to come out with the updated stage sooner, and I'll add you in the credits.

PM me if you decide to do it.

Also, ds22, can I use the collisions from the Project:M Battlefield?

Title: Re: Oshtoby's Stage(s) - Melee Battlefield DOWNLOAD

Well yeah, but could you also include the Melee BF collision in any future download?
But you might need to edit the P:M Battlefield collision a bit (to fit the stage better if you know what I'm talking about).

Which collision are you talking about that you want me to include? I thought the Project M Battlefield Collision WAS the Melee Battlefield Collision? Or am I wrong? You're the authority on anything Melee, so whichever collision you think is most accurate to the original, I'll use.

Title: Re: Oshtoby's Stage(s) - Melee Battlefield DOWNLOAD
Post by: ♤♡◇♧ on October 03, 2011, 11:49:48 AM
P:M Battlefield has different underside collision then Melee Battlefield, which Alm5252's version has (the undersides of Melee's Battlefield were more 'challenging').
You can include both in a .zip so that people can choose for themselves which collision they will use (as long as you give credit to P:M for the P:M collision and Alm5252 for the Melee collision).

BTW, forget the part I said about editing P:M Battlefield's collision.
It should work just fine for most parts anyway.

EDIT: Edited Alm5252's Melee Battlefield collision some more:
http://www.mediafire.com/?h5u1pn3pppzqsu5
Now it matches Melee's collision (almost) flawlessly.

Updated textures a bit to fix some bugs, and to lighten up the transparent floor. It looks a bit more Meleeish now. Also, I used ds22's near-exact melee collision. Grab it now!

Working on those grids:

Still work to do though.

EDIT: Updated the vault entry with some small fixes and the grids. May need some work, or better textures at least, but I'm including them for the moment.

The small fixes include model editing to make the border textures to look fine. As the black parts were cut by Oshtoby, I've included them back again to fit the model.

The border edits aren't shown in this picture.

That shading is real, or at least it looks it. How'd you do that on a .OBJ import?

Title: Re: Oshtoby's Stage(s) - Melee Battlefield DOWNLOAD

It is.

Well, you know, in brawlbox it showed that normals were there. I just edited the materials to enable them in-game.

As you can see, I'm starting to enjoy with OBJ imports. When I get into something, I always try to get it the most perfect possible. And this stage deserves it.

Thats cool! I loved that stage, i liked the one already made, but this should be better with the animations. :D

Any plans on Kongo Jungle Melee? Playing the old Rumble Falls version that was on the vault is really disappointing compared to Melee's. :/
Hey, hey! This guy guessed the secret stage I've been working on! I'll release a screenshot or two a little bit later.

You should rip Pokefloats too.

That would require WAY more work than I am willing to do. Sorry. I can't animate well, and the stage would come out awful, in my opinion. For a stage like Pokefloats, if it can't be done right, I'd rather not do it. Though, I have heard of someone ELSE who is up to the challenge, that I have ripped the models in the stage for...

MUSHROOM KINGDOM II RELEASED!
http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=23341 (http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=23341)

MKII has proper animations, to the frame, and just needs the Log, the flying carpet and Birdo. Other than that, I think this is a proper port. I am happy, as this had so many errors while making, you have no idea. It took me 3 days to get something this simple out, lol.

And, as a special bonus...

KONGO JUNGLE (MELEE) RELEASED!
http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=23342 (http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=23342)

Kongo Jungle has no shadows, and no shading, but it completely playable. If someone feels like fixing that, go for it. I didn't really care to. Anywho, have fun!

I could spend time ripping every single little model that moves in the BG, and I could spend time animating them using the limited animation .CHR0 files I can use in one stage, meticulously animating each tiny piece. Or, not.

I'm a lazy, lazy man. I choose the latter option.

I am going to release Kongo jungle version 1.1 tonight using your collision and a few texture edits made by agfan. So, yeah. Watch out for that. I am also going to try giving it shading. I can't make head or tails of how to enable the shading with mewtwo2000's program. So, we will see.

My plans next are to figure out how to properly enable shading. After that, my own yoshi's story from melee, which I may or may not release, then flat zone, then icicle mountain. I was going to do those last two before you even said anything, alm. You must just have the same taste in stages as I do. Lol.

I know I've been slacking on this, but recently I have had a lot of stuff going on in my life (I am in a play, as well as my old computer busted [caught fire due to graphics card failure] and I got a new one). I am going to be working on a new version of both Kongo Jungle and Melee Battlefield (WITH SHADING!) soon, so, watch out for that. As well as I am planning on several new Melee ripped stages, including ripped version of Yoshi's Story. So, yeah. The play I am in is ending this weekend, so come Monday, I will be able to get back to work on these things. Yeah.

As well as I am planning on several new Melee ripped stages, including ripped version of Yoshi's Story. So, yeah. The play I am in is ending this weekend, so come Monday, I will be able to get back to work on these things. Yeah.

Okay then, please make all your models compatible with Final Destination, that would be nice xD (clicks like button on Melee Battlefield and Brinstar Depths xD)

Melee Battlefield got an update. It now has shading. I am trying to get the little crystal thing, so, hold on that, but the stage now has shading, as well as a few texture fixes.

I will be updating both Mushroom Kingdom II and Kongo Jungle Melee tomorrow, Kongo Jungle more so than Mushroom Kingdom II.

Oh, I've had a few really busy days, and was gonna try to PM you back today.

I'll give you the crystal thing and what I got anyway, if I get the time when I'm home.

EDIT: Looked at your model and has some flaws I already fixed in mine (related to textures). I'll send you the whole thing and you see if you want to update with it again.

You could obtain better stage model rips by utilising Dolphin through GameAssassin...

Well see, GameAssassin captures the proper dimensions and original locations of each model captured from Dolphin without UV issues. It may even rip animated models from some Dolphin games unposed, as it does have the feature to force animation to be excluded from a capture.

I've tried to figure out how to use Gameassassin before, and I cannot. Would you be able to tell me how to properly rip Dolphin models in Gameassassin, if you know how?

Sure thing. I'll just go find the instructions I wrote somewhere else...

k, found them. GameAssassin can be downloaded from this (http://www.gameassassin.com/downloads.htm) site ("GameAssassin 共享版 2010-6-19 下载次数:00000155" is the download link for the latest free version of the program as of the date of this post.) However, GameAssassin only works with Windows XP x86 (and possibly through a Virtual Machine running Windows XP x86.)

GameAssassin usage instructions:
 • A more correctly translated version of GameAssassin and its accompanying help file can be downloaded from this (http://www.spriters-resource.com/community/showthread.php?tid=14923&pid=313315#pid313315) post (and the following instructions will relate to this version in terms of naming).
 • Otherwise, you can specify the program's language to be English. To do this, click the third button down from the top of the main window's rightmost button column, and then from the sub-window select "English" from "Option:General>Language". Click OK to exit the sub-window and save the new setting, and then exit and reopen the program to apply the new setting.
 • To specify GameAssassin to capture unposed models, tick "Force mode" and select "expand mode" and "Capture actual model" from "Option:3D>Advaeced setting:Control". Click OK from both sub-windows to exit from both and save the new settings (please note that this will not guarantee captured models to be unposed.)
 • Check that GameAssassin is set to capture from whatever the game renders as in the "Option:3D>Control" menu (D3D/OpenGL.)
 • If pressing the "Capture model" hotkey (ALT+F7 by default) doesn't capture models, try setting it to another key combination, holding down the key combination while causing the game to update, or pressing the "Capture send code" (ALT+F10 by default). Also see if using other hotkeys listed within the "Hotkey" tab influence the game. If not, you can try ticking the "Shield hotkey" option under the same sub-window tab, and/or selecting "Process mode" under "Option:General>General".
 • To integrate GameAssassin into an executable, tick the "Activate function" box from the bottom-right of the main window, then click "Load" from the side of the same window. From the resulting sub-window, enter the location of the executable in the "Program:" category, and the directory the executable is to load from in the "Work Project:" category.
 • After capturing a scene's models, a .lst list file of each ripped model is automatically generated in the output directory. That list and the individual GameAssassin-OBJ models referred from it can be imported into 3D Studio Max using the creator's GameAssassin import plugins (http://www.gameassassin.com/downloads.htm) ("GameAssassin专用3DSMAX* 导入插件" is the download link for the plugins, with * being the plugin for different versions of 3D Studio Max).
 • Through GameAssassin's "3D View" sub-window, you can also preview models, specify which are to be included in a .lst list file, make new .lst list files and export models to .xml.

For Dolphin in particular, you may have to spam a hotkey in order for it to work, and Direct3D GPU plugins are the only ones compatible with GameAssassin. Once intergrated with GameAssassin and running an ISO, you should see a "GA" logo in the top-left corner of Dolphin's view window, and when capturing a scene there should be a green status bar to the right of that logo. The Chinese version of GameAssassin's captures of Dolphin contain the original positioning, dimensions, textures and UVs.
Do consider using this program. :)

@Oshtoby

I don't know if your update on Brawl Vault about the Melee Battlefield is your version or Mewtwo's version, but I have to say that Mewtwo2000's version is the best one I have tested out so far.
It looks delicious in game, the textures, the collisions, and it even has his diamond that it has in Melee:

I hope that this is the version you have in your vault, because, for me, It is almost complete, just need the original Background and some Lighting fixes.

Just pointing out my current opinion about Melee Battlefield by Mewtwo2000.
I do like it.  :police:

I will be updating both Mushroom Kingdom II and Kongo Jungle Melee tomorrow, Kongo Jungle more so than Mushroom Kingdom II.

I don't know if this helps or not but I tested which Characters' Final Smashes cause glitches on Mushroom Kingdom II:

Mario
Link
Samus & ZSS
Kirby
Fox
Marth
Mr. Game & Watch
Luigi
Zelda/Sheik
Pit
Meta Knight
Falco
Pokemon Trainter
Peach
Yoshi
Ice Climbers
King DeDeDe
Wolf
Lucario
Ness
Toon Link
Olimar
Jigglypuff
Lucas
Donkey Kong's Final Smash causes less glitching than the above characters but its still noticeable.

These characters' Final Smashes cause no glitches:
Pikachu
Diddy Knog
Snake
Ganondorf
Sonic
Bowser
Wario
ROB
Falcon

Also, GigaBowser can sometimes hang off the right-side edge of the lower platform and kill himself.  I can't seem to get him to hang off the left side.  Really not a big deal since he hardly fits there and really deserves to die if he does hang there.

Thanks for the awesome stage(s)!

I don't go into .DAT files. I take a 3D snapshot of the game running in the Dolphin Emulator. Then I delete what I don't want and BAM. There it is. If you'd like, I can try and rip that stage, but I am not familiar with that game. How to I get that stage, after I first turn it on?I will rip it for you once I am done with the Melee characters.

Oh, it's quite easy to find. there are 3 modes to play, and you select City Trial from the main menu. Select a character, and you'll be put right into the City. there are quite a few models, from what I remember. there's rocks, trees, Whispy Wood, a watermill, two dragons; a whole bunch of stuff. I can definitely wait for melee first, though. :)

I've officially updated Melee Battlefield. List of Changes:
 - All texture errors resolved.
 - Completely re-imported to give it a proper shader (this makes a WORLD of difference).
 - Grates have been added to the top level.
 - The crystal has been added.
 - Glowing part of the bottom crystal had been moved to the proper center.

If you are a Melee fan and have yet to download this, or have an outdated version, I seriously suggest downloading this.

cool! are you going to fix the lightnings on it in this version M2k? I mean, In Melee it has a really dark interesting cool lightning and in this brawl it is just... It doesn't feels the same at all x/

also do you think that you can rip the background textures of the stage? :0
I mean, same way as your Melee Final Destination ..? :3

Well, you played this one:

The current one is darker. And the one I'm working on is as dark as the current one. If you feel like it should be even darker than that, I'll make an alternate even-darker version.

About the background, I can't rip anything, I have no way to run melee in my computer. Maybe Oshtoby can do it, but keep in mind that the background will never be the same as in melee. It's too complex and some effects would be just impossible to make, at least for now.

Here is a video of my most recent version of Melee Battlefield in action:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSdTyj4RaFA

Thanks, marcos348!

You know, in retrospect, after comparing that video to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoANJie1sVY) video, the only way, lighting/texture wise I would, and am going to, change it is to make the rainbow textures under the grates lighter. By no means would I make anything darker, though. After Mewtwo2000 is finished with the floor shining things, a few things I am going to fix are the following:

- Anywhere where there is BRIGHT orange needs to not be effected by light (simple)
- The rainbow texture under the grates needs to use the alternate, brighter texture that the crystal uses. (also simple)
- Change the background (DIFFICULT [will be left for another version])

Other than that, it would be a perfect import, and I would be more than happy with it. Also, I would be more than happy to donate it to Project: M, if they want it, even as a "Press L for Melee Battlefield, or R for Brawl Battlefield" sort of thing. My stage, strangely enough, can fit their collisions perfectly.

Post by: Mewtwo2000 on January 23, 2012, 03:49:44 PM
Oshtoby, I've remade the whole thing and the 2 first points are already done.

Well, the brighter rainbow was already used in some modded version of mine, and I'm using it again. The orange, as a light it's supposed to be, is already unaffected by lights (as you said, easy thing).

I've made the crystal thing to change color similarly to melee, along with the pinkish lines you told me about. I've made a better grid texture fitting the stage, and 'fused' everything into a single model. To be honest, I've imported the whole model you gave me when you posted the stage for the first time, and I've included the parts not included in the current versions. So, the only things I'm using from the current version are, the grids I created, and the unmodded model you gave me. And the collisions. I've renamed all the textures, and I'm still using the same light and background. And the brighting thing from Brawl Battlefield. The stage model has the same color values you applied to the current version anyway, so it looks exactly the same. Only that mine didn't need any bone animation to be in the correct spot, the bones are both in (0,0,0). I'm using 2 bones, one for the stage itself, and another for the crystal, which, as I said, it's part of the main model.

So, unless you have some new idea, I guess we should leave it as is once I update it, at least until the time you try to make the background.

Sorry if something of this bugs you or something, you know I'm a stager, and as a collaborator and such, I wanted to perfect it, even when the 'perfection' doesn't really mean great changes in graphics. Still, I guess it's gonna look a little better than before and you'll be happy about it.

Still, I guess it's gonna look a little better than before and you'll be happy about it.

does this updates completely shows the *eye* thing that is on the Battlefield Crystal?
It has some kind of an *eye* (that's how I call it) on the middle of the crystal, so I was wondering if your update has this on it? :3

I'm really anxious for this! Melee Battlefield is my second favorite stage from Melee x3

The 'eye' is now there, don't worry about it.

In the next release by me, the only thing left is just the background.

I don't like the new grid. I'll be making another one. The rest is just perfect.

Battlefield updated:

http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=22859

Included a bigger version. I'll try to include a wifi-safe version tomorrow.

By the way, the way I've made the pink lines to be makes some weird glitch to happen. The lines are trespassing pokemon trainer. I'll change this in the future to not happen.
