Title: [Video] Adding Shiny/Reflective effects to Imports!
Post by: nanobuds on June 22, 2012, 01:14:31 PM
NOTE: I forgot a step.

After changing the Material's shader, select the material refs, and change HasTextureMatrix to true

if you want a full body shine do you need to change the material textures to the same thing

I like it! I'm a big visual learner, so this is a big help for me.

Just noticed you did not change HasTextureMatrix to true. Doing so makes the shine follow camera and look a little bit more real.

What do you mean? The shine followed the camera when I did it like this

It does in singlebinds. Objects rigged to more than one bone need the hasTexturematrix set to true.

Really? Its always worked for me like this, even if it wasnt single-binded

Well at least that's how it is supossed to be. It's like when the metal effect had to be added manually, only singlebind objects looked the way they should. It's the same, try looking at your ironman import's shine with and without matrices. Ironman is full of singlebinds so he looks good even without a Texture matrix. Pay close attention to the waist which I believe is the biggest notsinglebind.

Left one has the matrix, right one is your's unedited.

Oh. Now I see what you're talking about.

Oh well, I'll add that to the OP. I plan to update Iron Man with the shader and material you used for your Iron Patriot anyways :P

Cool, just wanted to let you know, so people could use the shiny effect to full extent. Actually Iron patriot is only based on samus shine :P

Thanks alot this really helped i thought it would be hard to get shiny textures but when i select true it doesn't work it stays false

Question: Why did you never tell me you made this tutorial? Who knows if SMG Bowser, SMG2 Mario, and all the Galaxy related imports that'll make would have their original glow if I didn't find this tutorial.

Of course it's a pain in my ass adding this to Mario (Mario Party 9 Title Screen), so many f[censored]ing materials. :'(

OK, so hair is a different object. I assume it is singlebind (rigged only to the head). Since it is singlebind, brawlbox won't let you set texturematrix to true, but it is not necesary for singlebinds anyway. Just follow Nano's tutorial and it should work just right.

Wierd. But texturematrix are only used for the "shine" to follow the camera. If it does follow the camera, the problem is not the matrix.
