11/12/14 - The very character I wanted to see for a very long time, yes, Ayla from Chrono Trigger, the sexy and very strong cave-woman  ;D  JLSTAR graciously made the club for her and it's been rigged as a weapon over Peach.  :P Lots of props to him as well!

Here's what sets this apart from the other iterations:

- Includes colors, default (blue), ice blue, grey, green, orange and red
- Has a working staff as Peach's weapon, instead of the fry pan, racket, etc, you use her staff
- Custom-made battle and character selection screen portraits for all colors (six of each) for your viewing
pleasure!

- And the part the makes it all the better, the rig itself has been done in a much, much cleaner more pro looking manner. How? For one, her shoulders were never rigged correctly, but now they are, not only that, so is her neck/head, arms, legs, well, everything actually!

Good question, since I'm not good with texture editing, so I might have to keep Link's Master Sword.  If I can find someone to do that kind of hacking, that would be awesome.

Nice! Thanks for the find, but how do I import them, or rather, how do I get them to work with the Link/Zora model?  Do I use Brawl Box and import them somewhere in the MDL0/DAE data? See, this is the kind of thing I know nothing about, adding weapons to characters.  But I'm willing to learn nonetheless.

in 3ds max, just import the model. Its that easy.

What I usually do is make a new 3ds max scene, import the weapon, save it as a .max.

Then I open the character, go to Import>Merge and select the .max of the weapon

It's that simple?!  Cool, I'll give it a whirl. I know where the sword goes, but the shield, I'm not so sure about, but I think the bone is called "tate"(written as 盾) , which means shield in Japanese, so it makes sense.

Alright, now I see the shield and sword bones on his backside, so I just import the models and rig them to the appropriate bones.

Edit 10:48PM D'OH!  I probably shouldn't have added the sword AFTER I added the skin mod. Gotta start from scratch it seems.

I'll use the unmodified Link04.pac as a way to compare, just so I know what angles they're at.

The arm shield needs to be on the hand a bit more. Thats where the bone is.

That would explain why it looked off in Brawl Box. I thought that wouldn't happen since I rigged it to the TateN bone.  So, when Link is facing forward in a T-Pose in 3DS Max,  I need to shift the shield a little more to the left...?

The handles are placed similarly as the Hylian Shield, on the outside and not the inside.  But, uh, I just realized how erroneously placed the shield was...whoops.  :-[

Excellent! I'm glad that I'm headed in the (more or less) right direction! Hopefully, I'll be able to submit this to the Vault later today.  There might be a few rigging-related blemishes I'll need to neutralize thought.

Zora over Link nearly rigged, I just need to test it in Brawl as well as fixing some blemishes.  Not sure what I can do about the eyes, though. They will be tricky.

That's what I want to know. I will need help with the textures. These are the ones that came with the model....I didn't extract this.

I will need someone to look at this, and I will give said person credit where it's due  ;D  I don't know ANYTHING pertaining to fixing UV maps and other texture-related issues.  :-[

I don't know, Dedede's hammer is a real PITA to rig.  It may take a little longer to release since, I, uh, messed up the rigging process.

I suggest Kaptain K Rool's gun from DKC2, like how the vertex had it. And did you add bones or are those not leg bones that K. Rool's legs are riggec to?

Mariokart64n was kind enough to fix the rig so that the bones function properly, the problem is King Dedede's RLegJ and RKneeJ bones are in a weird position, finding the exact point to rig is difficult, but by no means impossible.  As for his musket, I don't have the means of obtaining the model/.obj.

As of now, I don't know jack squat about ripping models from games, but the hammer for some reason is missing part of the handle, so it looks weird in Brawl Box.  I had to move on to this project since my last one (Zora over Link) was put on indefinite hold, the person who was fixing the textures lost most of his data in a recent computer crash.

So, as it stands, there is a slight anomaly in the King K Rool WIP, but it shouldn't take that long to do.

No, I had to start from scratch by using DetachByID in 3DS max, and reapply a skin modifier, and now it's rigging like a charm!  ;D

Doing that didn't work for me. I rried that after rigging last night and, things....didn't turn out too well.  So, I started over a few hours ago, and after I separated the objects, it's rigging just fine.  Supposedly, when one is finished rigging a single mesh polygon, you cut the skin, separate the objects with the 3DS max script, and paste the instances of the skin mod back on the split mesh.  However, when I did just that, the program didn't allow me to select "paste". 

Maybe Studio Max 2011 does it differently. Either way, it will be a cold day in hell before I'm going to re-rig this thing, YET AGAIN.

Well, that's one thing I haven't though of, but like I said, I already started to re-rig it and should have most of it done today. Though I will undoubtedly need someone to help rig his legs because of the sheer awkwardness of Dedede's bone structure.

There are a couple of problems with a vertex hack, for starters, I have no access to such a vertex and two, I only know how to rig models and know nothing of texture or vertex hacking.  As mentioned previously, I'm already well into the rigging process itself; to be honest, I really[/b] don't want to have to start over a fourth time; I've had to start over three times already.  I'm not trying to shoot your guys' suggestions down, but I've done this method several times before for my hacks and it fits my skills (or lack thereof) very well. To change now would put me through even more unnecessary frustration.

Okay, that's what you meant...sorry, it wasn't my intent to misconstrue what you said :(  That hack is old and I felt it needed a face lift, a redo if you will. You were meaning that I should use it as a reference point.

btw that model was rigged by brawl itself as vertex hacks do not require rigging...
so you would be looking a "perfect" rig as a reference

that is if u are still having problems with the legs and stuff

Most likely, I'll just right them down on notepad or Open Office.  Oh, and here's a picture of the rigging progress thus far:

Brawl Box makes the cape look weird, but it looks normal in 3DS max.

UPDATE 11:45 PM

The problem with the legs and feet on the older King K. Rool mod is that they were shaped like Dedede's unmodified feet, meaning they were like big shoes and had no real legs.  This current mod has legs and feet, meaning the vertex weights cannot be used from the other, older mod.  Rigging will have to be done hierarchically; LegJ->KneeJ->FootJ, in that order from the top to the bottom.

I'm not sure how mariokart64n did that without the legs getting screwed up, but when I do it, this happens:

Have you tried impotring that dae into Brawl? Sometimes vertices will get messed up in 3ds max due to the rigging, but will look normal in BB and Brawl. It looks like the bones rotated with the leg also, or that could just be the angle of the picture, but if the bones moved with the leg, then it should hopefully look normal in BB.

I know, but I believe I'm headed in the right direction, in fact, it doesn't look super terrible in Brawl Box or in Brawl, but again, it's the right direction. It will require a lot of tweaking to get it right.

What I did is I only selected the vertices around the leg and ignored the ones around his waist and thighs. From there I bent the leg, which left a gap. After that, I selected the vertices that were being separated at the thighs and blended them to LegJ until it closed the gap, while at the same time trying to make it look halfway decent. Still a ways to go if I'm to fix it completely.

Glad for you, pal! The leg is finally done, and I knew you could do it! ;)

Still need to fix a few vertices here and there (especially around the torso/belly area), but at long last, the mystery has been solved!

Thanks! Trying to figure out what was wrong was bugging the heck out of me, but at least I'm headed in the right direction. I might need a little assistance from someone in the near future though to fix any stray/skewed vertices.

Not sure what bone(s) the cape could be rigged to since Dedede doesn't have one.  The Crown, I think Dedede has a bone to rig it to.

But sometimes there isn't a need to rig all the vertices, but I do like when a character is supposedably joining the Brawl like say SMG Bowser, I do like it when they are fully rigged.
So are you using teh gun? in some of the pictures it's hard to tell if that is the gun.

Well sadly I don't have acces to 3DS max atm but heres a tip, when you are editing skin and yu choose a bone, a red oval appears, if you are rigging hips, waists and busts rig the vertices from the half of that red oval to adove, same for the arms, legs and tail, that way you will not need to do much fixing

Anyone know where his cape is supposed to rig?  Every time I rig the cape to BackJa, Jb, etc, it looks funky in Brawl Box (i.e. too short). WTF?  I really want this rig to be the best it could be, but if this is happening....Hoo boy.

Update: Made changes to torso vertices to better fit his legs. Now they should be a lot easier to fix up and animate!  Oh, and the cape?  I'll need advice for rigging that since it refuses to show up properly in Brawl Box.

Heheh, thanks! The cape looks normal in 3DS max, but when I rig it to his jacket bones, it halves in size in Brawl Box on all animations.   As for extending his torso, I can't quite seem to figure out how to "trick" the program into thinking that the cutoff (where the torso ends) is where the legs begin, because the leg vertices will still be "there" even if they're hidden in the newly extended torso.

Some vertex tweaking on his legs and belly mostly, then I add the textures to his musket, import into Brawl and thoroughly test it to make sure it doesn't crash. But if my track record is any indication, NONE of my hacks has ever caused Brawl to crash or freeze randomly! Heheheheh.....

Still though, never in my wildest dreams have I seen one of my hacks received this well by so many people! I like it!  ;D

I didn't make the shiny textures, but King K Rool and Dedede have some minor, model-related glitches, but I'm glad people like it!

*Sigh* it's not looking so good. Originally, Nanobuds volunteered to look at and fix the textures since they were off (Zora Link had a face texture on his torso), and his eyes were black when they should look glowing.  Then his computer breaks down and refers me to another hacker, a hacker who RARELY visits KCMM forums.  So, ever since then, it's been on hiatus. If you know anyone that can repair the textures/UV mapping, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll likely have to kill the project.

I didn't say I'd kill it for sure, it's just I suck balls when it comes to editing UV maps and other texture-related hacking. Still, my predicament about fixing the textures is a bunch of bollocks...Oh well.

I'll likely need to manually T-pose the model, so, it might be a couple of days till I finish it.


Edit: Bollocks, this is going to be hell to T-pose

- One, the textures don't show up despite putting the .png in the right directory
- While I can certainly T-stance his arms and legs, the individual fingers are out of the question due to how it    was extracted. If someone is brave enough to un-clench his fingers using the Edit Mesh modifier, they can go right ahead.

I'm not trying to get out of doing a request, but seeing as this is the only available model for this character, either I T-pose his limbs and leave the fingers as is, or I don't do it at all...unless someone can step up and unfold the fingers and I give that person full collaboration credit.

Gado will likely have to be re-rigged.  The reasons are as follows:

- The current rig as it stands, is comprised of twenty or so obj polygons, which means, in order to properly rig a specific area, you can't just highlight a single part, multiple parts have to be selected

- The rig is FUBAR and needs quite the overhaul, or rather, I have to start from scratch. The easiest way would be to merge all objects into an editable polygon  using the appropriate mods and merging it all into one mesh.  To attempt to salvage a model this damaged would be a vain effort.

- This would make rigging be less of a hassle, but, the other potential issue would be the textures. With a single object but multiple png/jpg files, that could pose as an issue upon exporting into Brawl Box

So I can either A, try to salvage the FUBAR rigged model or B, merge it all into one object and start the rig over.


While Gado does look more or less normal, there are numerous gaps on his torso and where his hip sockets are during certain animations

I'm not being negative, or at least not trying to be, but this has been the most difficult rig I have ever worked on. It had issues from day one such as losing the rig, bones turning invisible or hidden from the view port, and the rig not blending or animating properly. Trying to manage a skin mod on 20+ objects is not fun at all

Update: 6/15/13, Ayla from Chrono Trigger over Peach, the first time anyone has done a legit hack as the last one was a vertex hack  It'll likely take a while since I only know the very basics of the basics of 3D modelling, but I have a general idea on how it works. I'm glad there are so many people on the Vault who are willing to help me :D

Working on 3D models from here on out (at least, trying to learn the ways anyway ;)

Yep, like I said on the OP, I'm back in the hacking game with three new projects. The first being Anubis over Ike and while I did hit a few snags due to how weirdly shaped the model is, it's near-completion and should be out tonight, if not tomorrow at the latest. The person I'm collabing with is making a PSA for the character so that will be taken care of. After that, I've two Bahamut projects I'm working on, but I can't give any details about those yet :P

There is a slight issue though. So, when the model was sent to me, his weapon didn't have a material (white, no textures), but even if I apply one in 3DS Max, it doesn't show up in Brawl Box, but fine in 3DS Max.

I don't know how to burn them. All I did was drag/drop the textures in 3DS which was probably stupid of me :laugh:  I went into the material manager and added the material for it there but in Brawl Box, no texture. It looks fine in 3DS max though.

Okay did a lot of backtracking and found the source of the problem. Let's just say there are some things you have to learn the very hard and painful way ;)

I had to more or less start over the rig (well, I saved the envelopes and imported them) and most of the rig was intact, but a lot of tweaking needs to be done to smooth it out, so yes, this is version 2.0 :laugh:

Thank you! It was a real pain in the butt to get it working, turns out the only way to add spec maps is by using Brawl Box 0.67b, not sure why :laugh: And what did you mean by Cynder Might or making a Krystal PSA? Yeah, uh, I don't have much experience with making custom animations lol ;) ;D

That's true, but I'm kinda OCD and like to have it completely outside of the limbo state if you know what I mean. I find it hilariously strange that other hacks released after mine get approved lol.

Glad you do, and I'm redoing Candy Kong (symmetry modifier, UV map fixes, rigging with mirror mode etc), then Tiny Kong next in line for DK characters, I tell you hwat ;D 

I know you were joking about the Brawl textures, but if someone truly wants to improve them, they can, I won't stop them lol ;) I just wish I knew how to mod textures good ROFL XDDDD. Good luck though, the textures are in 26 files MWAHAHAHAHA!!

I'm happy to hear that and glad you like it! ;D :P I plan on porting Tiny Kong and Candy Kong as well. I also have Klump (I think that huge blue kremling dude) and a few other DK characters, I can definitely work on that as well!

Karate Kong, I think... In the EU version of the game, he was called Kong Fu though... I beat that game on the Wii version...

Indeed, he definitely is, but I don't know how to write a good description, much less anything that "captivates" peoples' attention if you know what I mean.

My hacks haven't been getting many downloads, like, at all, and while I don't expect to see thousands like those Shadow the hedgehog hacks, I just...ugh.

That's the other thing, I suck monkey stones when it comes to writing convincing rhetoric as to what makes the hack unique; therein lies the very issue at hand, none of my hacks are special, noteworthy, etc. That is, at least, from my point of view, and I had and still am having a hard time coming fully back into hacking, if that makes any sense.

I'll post something on there, but I gotta be honest, I'm not getting my hopes up too much. Not trying to sound negative, but, at the same time, I have to be realistic.

i never found any suckish rigging in any of yer hacks. general scales is awesome, kalypso works perfectly, and the rampage monsters finally joined the brawl. sure 2 of them have ducked heads, but what'll ya do since their noggins are so attached to their bodies? point is, everything ive gotten from you works amazingly. imo, you deserve to have rampage featured, since theyre yer most recent project set.

Akeno PMed the details, it'll be a surprise, but I've my fingers crossed it's one of my more recently er, corrected rigged ones (as I've gotten better over time with rigging, etc). Now I can even symmetrically rig and t-pose as well fix UV maps, texture transparencies, things I never thought I'd ever see myself doing, and thanks for your support, it does mean a lot to me ;D :P

Gen. Scales 3.0, Krystal, DK characters, I'll find out soon.

- Why isn't her hair rigged to Peach's hair?
- The vertice weighting doesn't look so great in more extreme animations, like her right shoulder and neck at the first jump backwards.

I know the joints are difficult to rig, however, you can find a way to test the rig inside 3DSMax if you're following Beyond's tutorial.

Regardless of these, I still gotta say you did a pretty good job with this rig. These minor touch ups will just help improving it for a better quality in general.

Crap, I knew I somehow missed something. I don't know where his tutorial is located, to be honest, could you link it? Thanks XD The extreme animations yeah, what do I tell those that already downloaded it already? Two, the textures, yeah.... I have no texture editing skills at all, that's not for me to be asked of and would require outside assistance of more skilled modders to assist me with.  Another thing, the hair, well, I didn't rig it to her hair bones because I've never rigged anything to that before, so, I don't know how it's supposed to be rigged. I need a lot of help if I'm to improve this hack of mine. But man, I knew I effed it up, again.  r)
