Title: How to make each texture have an own CSS name
Post by: Kyouma on August 23, 2012, 08:22:49 PM
I am sure it's not my own case; we have different characters over one PSA, but when we select one, we see the name of the "original" character, for example: I have Meiling over Ryu, but when I select her on the Character selection screen it shows the name of "Ryu" due to the other Ryu recolor slots.
Well, I found a way to change that.
First than anything, we need to "clean" all the CSS names, this means, deleting them all to replace each one for each texture we have.
Use this black image with these exact proportions
right click and "save image as"  ----->(http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/m508/KaguyaHouraisan/mugen/MenSelchrChrNm001.png)<-----
Now open sc_selcharacter_en  (it's inside common5.pac for riivolution users) with brawlbox and spread miscdata30, then go to "textures" and slide down until you can see the CSS names and replace each one with the provided picture I gave you.
Once when you did it, the CSS names are clean and no names will show in brawl at the CSS, so go to char_bust_tex_lz77 and spread it to replace each CSP with a new CSP with a name placed over it.
For example:
This is Kirby's CSP how would show in selection screen now
Has no name now D:!
so we replace it with one with a name on it
(http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/m508/KaguyaHouraisan/mugen/kirby.png)
NOTE:Be awared of the name's position on this image, because if my calculations are correct, that is the actual brawl's name position, if the name is lower or higher, it could make the CSP look kinda strange (but no freeze danger).
Now do the same with each texture.
Here have my personal Kirby CSP's

That's all about this, thank you for reading, I hope it's useful for you.

I tried and had a HUGE graphical glitch.
All textures were messed up and there was a black line across the screen.
I may have done something wrong, i'll try something else tomorrow.

Which program is the best to make these black surroundings around the letters? I want to try this method, but I'm using paint.net and I guess it's not the best. :D

Photoshop naturally, but GIMP may be able to. I don't know myself since I use PS.

Then I should get the test version of Photoshop. Geez, to think that I have to make almost 175 CSSs causes headaches but when the need arises. ^^

well, the kirby CSPs I posted are fireworks 2004 ditable, so you can simply change the text

Now I found a way to make the names in a good contrast with paint.net. Your idea of making the original names transparent and adding the names directly to the images is clever.
Thanks for that! :D

btw: I also made all the images, took me a few hours to make all of them. Phew.. xD

yes, the name "blinkinzz" has a curious story... back in 2009, I found a picture of jeff the killer and me and my friends didnt know he was named "jeff the killer" so we just called him "blinkinzz" because that was the filename of that picture so yes

I'm aware of the method, and kind of surprised that so little people implement the names into the CSPs, is there a resource for fonts to make it a little easier?

I knew someone was going to post something like this. I actually do this for my character selection menu. I didn't need to read the post to know how to do it. But this will come very handy for those one slot texture hacks.
