Okay(: First off, open brawlbox. :

Either load your .pac or .pcs and simply just click "file" "save as" and Save it as either, .pac or .pcs

Simple as that!  :3

It's not as simple as that...

You have to load your character file. I recommend the .pac file. Not the FitChar.pac (because newcomers tend get confused about this way too easily), the FitChar0#.pac (ex: FitMario02.pac).

Then just save as a .pcs

But for the other way around...Loading the .pcs and saving as a .pac will most likely, if not always freeze/crash the game.

But if your model only comes with a .pcs, export the model and textures. Then open up an unmodified FitChar0#.pac, replace the model and textures, and save as a .pac

I do appreciate that you made a tutorial for a common problem, but your current tutorial won't really work. :-\

i made this for the people who download hacks that only have a .pac or .pcs...

this has always worked for me.

Odd. Normally if a .pcs was saved as a .pac, it would be glitchy or crash. <.>

That's only going to happen if you save a PCS file as a PAC file without setting the compression to none.  I've tried this myself, and it works well for me.

Oh yeah.

I didn't mention it because I didn't want to confuse people. <.>

Honestly, I think it's much easier to save a PCS as a PAC with Compression set to "None" rather than the method you suggested.  I had a hard time following that on my first readthrough of your comment. XD

Looks like I confused rather than explained. <.>

It wasn't that you weren't clear, it's just a lot more work than setting compression to none.

As an official newcomer, what is the CORRECT way of making a .pcs or .pac file because everyone on here is saying different things about how they did it?

to make a PAC
simply save as a PAC file with compression set to "None"

to make a PCS
save with compression set as "LZ77"

where is the "compression"?
in brbx, click the blue "ARC" file, and you should see the compression at the bottom of the right window

easiest way is to save as .pair
this makes both a pcs and a pac, automatically copressing the pcs and not compressing the pac

Is it the same for BrawlBox v0.67b.zip? That's the one I have.

Ohhhh so that's what it is. I've been hacking since '08 and never knew that.

That would be a definite yes.  I don't know when it was first implemented, but it seems likely that it would have been one of the first, since costume "vertextures," as Mikuru calls them, were among the first kinds of hacks.  So the main reason we create both .pac and .pcs files is to prevent freezing on transforming characters and allow them to be used in single player modes.

saving as a .pair makes a .pcs and .pac with the correct compressions where ever you save it?

good gosh there is only one possible way to do this dang thing... can someone just post this somewhere everyone can see it? it took me forever to figure the right way to do it... and there are WAY too many hacks that have bad .pac files included... i'll  do it if no one else will...

Wouldn't the tutorial forum be the perfect place for this kind of information? :srs:
