Info
If anybody wants to PSA any of my models, go right ahead. I'm not planning on doing any PSAs myself, so the only way any of these characters will get their own movesets is if one of y'all out there makes them one.

Vis-a-vis Requests. I'm not really taking them, but if you've got a cool idea, go ahead and shoot it my way and maybe I'll do it. Couple things to note, though. The further away from Nintendo the idea gets, the less likely I am to do it. Characters from cartoons, anime, film, etc are much lower priority than characters from video games, especially first party ones.

Also, right now I'm only interested in modeling characters that do not have Gamecube or later 3D models. Characters that never left the sprite sheet are really appealing to me, though if the only model a character has kinda sucks (like if it's from a n64 game, for example) then I'd be up for making them a new one.

'Bout time you made your own import thread. (:

I look forward to seeing your future works.

Nice, you made a thread! I can't think of much criticism to give you seeing how are already better than 98% of the people on the vault o_o

You already seem to be playing by all the rules, just keep doing what you're doing.

Love the choice of characters thus far.

Suscibing to this thread.

Since your first import of cranky I got a taste creativity and originality out of you expecting more hacks with those impressive skills applied to cranky and I wasn't disappointed.
I'm able to see originality, hard work and quality of your modding ability, three things I lack.
To be completely honest, since I started brawl hacking a year ago, I never stopped to download other people's hacks to play as, only if needed for pictures of my hacks, but after that dog of yours, olimar will be my most used character.
Amazing job.

Hm... These are pretty darn nice models.

Even though I'm not much for Wifi unsafe hacks (Cranky seems to have some edited bones. Which will cause a desync most of the time).

Still, these seem like very VERY good hacks for offline play. Cranky would make a good subject for a video I feel... I might try this later.

The Duck Hunt Dog is just a plain clever idea. I love how he uses ducks as weapons. XD

Snorlax also looks pretty nice.

I look forward to future works from you. You seem to pick Nintendo's underdogs. Rather then the super well known characters. I honestly like this.

I bit off a bit more than I could chew with Cranky. I wanted to get his beard rigged to DK's tie so it could sway a bit, and it worked fine in BrawlBox. But then when I put it into Brawl, the animations went a bit nuts and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. So I just nulled the bones. Snorlax has the size mod, so I don't know if he's wifi safe or not, but the dog doesn't have any bone edits, so he should work.

I look forward to future works from you. You seem to pick Nintendo's underdogs. Rather then the super well known characters. I honestly like this.

I got a couple more obscure characters on the horizon, but there's some more familiar faces on my list, too.

Oh wow. You're right about Duck Hunt Dog.

He does seem to work on Wifi. I'm testing him now.

This... Honestly could be a great replacement for Olimar. Since I dislike him anyway.

Also, I LOVE how the Pikmin's animations work for the Ducks so well. The seem so... Natural.

A keeper for sure.

Yeah, I'm the same way. There's something interesting about bringing a model out of 2D and into 3D that I really like, which is why I enjoy Duck Hunt Dog and Pik's Masked Man so much.

Keep up the good work.

I'm watching this thread. I've loved your imports since day one, and I'll continue to love them. I may not have Olimar right now (Roy's over him), but I'd get your dog if I didn't have Roy there.

Also, any thoughts of what you may be doing next?

Still putting the Dog over Wario. I have to edit his proportions first, and more importantly, actually give him an interior mouth, since currently the model just has teeth and nothing behind them. I'm not sure what I'll do after that. For the moment I'd like to stick to one project at a time. I'd rather have one finished import than two or three WIPs.

Ugh. My Wii just died. Bought this thing in 2006, hacked it as soon as I was able. It's been on it's last leg for quite a while now (the disc drive has been LOUD for about two years), but still. Sad to see it go. Just ordered a new (used) one, though, so hopefully it'll be here by sometime next week. What this does mean is I can't test my hacks until I get this new one and get it all set up, so Duck Hunt Dog over Wario is getting put on temporary hold, since I can't test him. Totally thought I'd have him out in a day or two, too.

Just get a USB stick and a Brawl ISO. You can set up USB loaders on the Wii so that it reads games from a USB stick instead of a disc drive.

It's also pretty simple to get Brawl and some hacks up and running on Dolphin if you're not opposed to emulation. Makes testing mods a hell of a lot faster, and my computer is a few years old and I can still run Brawl fullscreen with all the trappings and still get 60fps, which is nice.

Took me a few hours, but I think I got the software set up to run off my usb hdd. Unfortunately, it'll take me a couple days to get the ISO (abysmal internet here), and even unfortunatelyer, I already bought another Wii on eBay. Guess when it gets here I'll just flip it and see if I can make a few extra bucks.

Anyway, until then, Duck Hunt Dog on Wario is on hold, since I can't test the rig, and instead I'll work on a new model, so stay tuned.

Eh, you could keep it in another room.

I have a Wii near my PC. And a Wii in my living room. The other Wii could be used for other games. Plus, most Brawl ISOs can't play cutscenes. So having the new one wouldn't be a bad idea.

Also, that loud CD noise isn't actually all that hard to fix.

It causes so many problems, but it's quite literally a piece of metal riding the top of you Discs, making them unstable. It was the same problem my Wii had. All you need to do is open up your Wii and bend the metal in a different direction. That's it.

If you just order some Triwing screwdrivers off the internet, you can have it done within an hour, really.

Getting ISOs for games you already own will be easy once you get something that can read a CD. I think USB Loader GX has an "install" button, and then there's CleanRip which does the same thing. They both rip games to .WBFS, so you'll need Wii Game Manager to convert them to ISO. Once you do, using them in Dolphin is easy too.

Edit:

And can't you test your rig in BrawlBox or Maya? And if you seriously need to test it ingame, you can just ask someone to do it for you. It's not like they'll run off with it or claim it as their own.

Just get a USB stick and a Brawl ISO. You can set up USB loaders on the Wii so that it reads games from a USB stick instead of a disc drive.

Doesn't really help if your Wii's disc drive is dead, since it has to read your game discs to install them onto your USB devices.

Anyway, you can use the File Patch Code with the Dolphin Emulator, if you have the proper programs at your disposal. On my end, pretty much all the snapshots that I take now come from the Dolphin Emulator, since their quality is a lot better there than what you can ever get in-game; 1600x900 pixel .png images, instead of 640x480 pixel .jpg images.

However, I have had problems with Olimar whenever I use the Dolphin Emulator.

Yeah, for me at least Snake and Olimar will sometimes crash the emulator when you (not the CPU) win the fight as them. Not sure why. Brawl Minus actually seemed to lower how often this happened for me, while Project M also made the same problem appear for Charizard and Ivysaur. As far as I know the only way to stop this happening is to actually patch the ISO instead of using Dolphin's use SD card setting.

I can test the rig just fine in BB, but my past models haven't always translated perfectly right away. I'd ask others to help test it if it wasn't for the fact I tend to go back and forth between the computer and wii a dozen times.

I did look up the stuff about the Wii disc drive and it's faulty retention clip. It is an easy fix, and I had to do something similar when my PS2 stopped reading discs. I'm still planning on trying to fix it, too, but I found an auction on ebay for a Wii in good condition for 40 bucks ending within minutes of my search, so I wasn't going to pass that up just on the chance I could get my Wii working again.

So I did spend a little bit of time on DHD over Wario. Here he is with the new proportions. Still need to model the mouth.

As I opened up a new scene and began working on a new character model, I had this kinda weird idea. I knew it would be an easy model, so I threw it together before the idea slipped away.

Takamaru, from Nazo no Murasame. Japan only NES game. He's one of the more commonly requested characters for Smash U, and since he got one of the Nintendo Land mini-games named after him, who knows what could be going on with him behind the scenes.

But I figure, everybody has to put somebody on Marth eventually. Might as well be a long forgotten NES character.

Dog over Wario is pretty fun to play with, nice work! :D
I was wondering though if you'd release a 'duckless' version of him. Also, is there a reason why the Wario version doesn't have a hurt face texture?

Speaking of textures, I'm trying to give Dog a brawl style one. I don't really have much experience on editing textures, but I believe it may end up looking decent enough (:

To the best of my knowledge, Wario doesn't use a texture for his hurt face. At least he doesn't have a Hurt visibility bone where I could attach one. So I left that out.

As for the duckless version, while it's doable, his left hand would be permanently in a half-closed fist, or I'd have to completely repaint the weights on his body from scratch, since right now his hand is not attached to the finger bones. And Wario's spine-breaking twists were not fun to paint, so I don't plan on redoing that. If you want him duckless, you can just go into Brawlbox and delete the duck object. It'll look identical to anything I do.

As for the retexture, truthfully I don't see much of a difference in the pics you've posted. While I don't mind retextures, I would prefer they be more obviously different.

Oh, I wasn't aware of this, not really a Wario player haha My bad.
Yeah, I just didn't want to delete the duck because I thought his hand would look weird in that fist position. But I see it would be a lot of work just to remove the duck, so I'll just keep it the way it is, no big deal (:

I should have posted comparison pictures before, it is a pretty subtle change actually, but I like it^^

Oh... My... God...

You're making Missingno over ROB?

Your cool points went skyrocketing. Missingno. is my favorite Pokemon... If he was counted as a real one that is.

I still say he's misunderstood. At worst, he ruins the Hall of Fame. Meh, it's better that way.

Anyway, does this have bone edits? Or will it be Wifi safe? If there's no edits... This will permanently replace my old Emerald texture version of him. Heck, even with edits... I'll probably still use him offline.

No bone edits. I've rigged the "pixels" to not-quite-but-almost random bones, so when ROB is idling, the pixels are kinda bouncing up and down. I like the effect, cause it makes him look glitchy without actually being glitchy.

And I have a softspot for MissingNO. I wish Nintendo would just make him canon already.

Wow. I look forward to seeing this in game.

And yeah, I wish Missingno. would be canon too... But sadly, I think he's not as well known in Japan. Since the trick to see him... Was somehow an error in the US version I think? And, I think he can only be used in the Japanese Blue version. Since the one in Red/Green crashed the game upon encounter. :/

He's present in the Japanese release (he's even named the same thing). The issue is that MissingNO is far from the only glitch mon in Gen I. He was the most commonly encountered over here because which glitch mon appears is dependent on your player character name. MissingNO appears for every character named "Ash", which was one of the default choices, and none of us knew any better back then, so that was a commonly inputted name. And the rest is history.

Well but see. I think the Cinnabar glitch didn't work in Japanese games. However the Mew Glitch does. So that's how some people know he freezes in Japanese games... FOR the most part. He can be seen, and caught in the Japanese Blue. But like I said, not with the Cinnabar trick. But with the Mew Glitch.

...

Also, that picture is cute.

I just tested this out in game.

Very nice work. I like that his "limbs" actually are still a good indicator of where his hit boxes are. :P

He does indeed look better in motion like you said. And I love how the Master Ball looks in game.

All and all. A very VERY nice ROB hack.

Cool. Glad to see at least a couple people like it. I wasn't even sure if I was going to release it at first, since I figured no one would want it. It was such a stupid-easy model/rig, after all.

So, Segtendo, once I finish up Takamaru I'm thinking I'll make Ramona Flowers. Depending on the reception, I might do the others, too. At least Knives and Scott.

Hm... Even though I'm not a fan of Scott Pilgrim. (And really didn't like the movie... Kinda rubbed me the wrong way.)

It should be interesting to see those characters redone with new models from scratch. BY's Scott was great for the time. And even holds up alright by today's standards. But it would be interesting to see a more polished model.

And Ramona... If I recall right, someone was planning on making a PSA for her over Ness. So this is good timing.

...

Also, I made a video using your Missingno. hack.

Awesome.

I like Scott Pilgrim, particularly the comic and the game, though I enjoy the movie, too. But don't worry, I'm not abandoning my old school Nintendo characters. I've got a couple more Pokemon characters (ones that haven't been done yet, to boot) on the horizon.

I was okay with Michael Cera. Not what I had in mind when reading the comic, but I didn't mind his interpretation either. I thought Mary Elizabeth Winstead was a really boring Ramona, though.

I don't much care for his Samurai Warriors design, since it feels really generic, and it also doesn't really match Nintendo's visual asthetic. So this is mostly based on his original design, with fancy updates that some of the other older, sequel-less characters got, like Pit and Marth.

I'm looking forward to your Newtwo model.

I take it you'll base the shading and whatnot on Star's normal Mewtwo?

And this is one case where I won't mind bone edits. Since I'll likely be using this with a PSA.

Takamaru is also looking interesting. I've never played his game. But I'll probably use him.

Okay, so, which Mewtwo PSA do most people use? The only alt-psa I have is Thany's Roy over G&W, and I see a couple different Mewtwo's in the vault. Just want to know which one I should test the rig with. There will of course be a standard Lucario version, but I figure a lot of people will want to put this guy over Mewtwo.

We'll see what happens with the "tail." I've modeled it down a little different than it looks in the pics specifically so I could try to rig it onto Lucario's tail bones. If it doesn't work like I hope it will, I'll probably remodel the "tail" into a more accurate stance and do a bone-edit.

you can port from one to the other just y adding/removing bones in brawlbox...

I can't even make one-slot size mods, just tried it with a tutorial and failed, maybe I should try it again. There are several characters I included which need a fitmotionetc.pac.

What's the difference? The first one says "Normal Brawl" and this one says "vBrawl." Isn't vBrawl just Vanilla Brawl, which is just normal Brawl? And does there exist a Mewtwo that's balanced for Brawl-, by chance?

I'm honestly not sure why he released two with that name...

But the one I linked to was balanced out by me, and KJP... Granted, there's still GLARING balance flaws. But it's more then likely more balanced then the other one.

This may seem like an odd suggestion, but perhaps you could make an armor version of him, similar to that of Mewtwo's armor from the first movie, if you feel that his arms are bare.
Might be an interesting challenge to take up.

Mmmkay. So good news, and bad news. News.

The tail works pretty well with Lucario. Not perfect, but still pretty good considering it's attached to his head.

But over Mewtwo? Uh... not so much.

So. Bone edits. When I attempted them with Cranky (moved the tie bones to his beard), it looked fine in BrawlBox. The animations played just as I expected. But in game? The joints were rotated 90 degrees to the right.

What I'm worried about with Mewthree here is the way Mewtwo holds his tail doesn't quite work with Mewthree's. Mewtwo holds his tail up. Mewthree holds his tail down, since it comes off the back of his head. It'd look ridiculous for the tail to be held up high way above his head. He'll look even more top-heavy then he does now.

So what I'm thinking right now that might work is to shift the tail bones about half way up his back and a little further out, and to reshape his tail to fit it. This way when he holds the tail up like Mewtwo, it doesn't stick so ridiculously high up, but the tail bones are still high up to avoid some of the clipping errors I'm getting now.

The other option is I don't do bone edits at all, and instead leave the tail rigged only to the head. I'd re-sculpt the tail to look more like the artwork in this case, since it's only shaped the way it is now so it could be rigged to the tail. Although I'd still probably get the clipping errors I get with the current version to some degree.

Whatever happens, I'll probably leave the Lucario version how it is (after smoothing the rig out more, of course) because it's pretty decent. Some clipping errors here and there, but I think those are unavoidable no matter how I do it, since the tail is so big.

And I smoothed his digits.

_________________________

Edit:

Okay, so I managed to get a bone edit working in game the same way it does in BrawlBox. I don't know what I did differently compared to Cranky, but there you go. Anyway, new problem. Random stray faces/verts that flash across the screen. Quick, like a fraction of second, but still long enough to annoy the crap out of you.

I've seen this before on psas I've downloaded, and even some sizemods I've done for myself. I tested Newtwo with vBrawl, Brawl- and with that Mewtwo PSA and he glitches in all three, and when he's in the scene with another Lucario he makes them glitch, too.

Ain't no way I'm releasing a mod that does that, but I don't have the slightest clue what's going on.

So yeah.

If it happens again maybe. Thanks, though.

___

So basically, here's how things are looking. I've tried a dozen different tail placements rigged a dozen different ways, and every time, no matter how fine it looks in all the other animations, it's the run animation that kills it. The Mewtwo PSA just rotates his head too far back.

What I'd like to do, since it's a relatively easy fix, is simply edit those animations. There's like six animations total that are messed up, but they're terrible enough that they bring the quality of the entire hack down too much for my tastes. If I just go into brawlbox and rotate his neck like 20 degrees down, it looks a million times better.

AGFan hasn't been active since January. I have no intention of re-releasing his entire hack with like six animations barely changed, but do you think it would be kosher for me to export those particular animation files, edited to work with Mewthree better, and include them in the download with instructions on how to replace them yourself?

Because I feel like people are gonna use this guy with the Mewtwo PSA whether I think it looks good or not, so I'd like to do what I can to up the overall quality.

Just include a FitLucarioMotionEtc.pac with the edited animations imo for those using the Mewtwo PSA. Probably would be the easiest thing to do as long as you give proper credit to AGFan.

Yeah, that would work.

Also, I should note that the Mewtwo PSA has renamed bone for the tail.

TailbaseN to Tailbase.

Tailja to tailjd.

Tailjb to tailje.

Tailjc to tailjf.

Did you rename them? In game, this stops wind from effecting the tail. So that some moves look better.

Still, if you include some edited animations. It should work fine.

Didn't realize that, no. Still, the reason some of the animations look off is because the tail has been attached to his head. So when he leans his head back, the tail goes right through his body. I think I've figured out a way around that without changing any of the other slot's animations, though.

I've got the Lucario version pretty much done.

No need to release the Lucario version on it's own when the Mewtwo one is basically finished.

The new head animations work on Newtwo only, all other Mewtwo characters use the default ones. It's pretty cool. I had hoped one-slot animations would work, and there you go. They do.

There will be three versions: wi-fi safe Lucario, animated tail Lucario, and Mewtwo PSA version. I've modeled him blinking and hurt expressions, just have to set them up. Plus a spec map. And recolors.

Yep. Haven't even touched the shaders. Whenever I import straight from Maya the shaders are aways too bright. I wanted to make sure the rig worked before I changed touched the materials.

Explain. His face is basically the only piece of official art there was when I started modeling (the day he was announced) plus his in-game model (which is much flatter. Doesn't even look like the art, in my opinion.)

Actually his in-game images are tricky since his stance has him hovering and looking downwards on the other Pokemon so its left up to the imagination to see the depth. Just look at him as if he was looking downwards (which he is supposed to be)
This is the best image to see the shape of his face since its a shot from below:
He still has a shape similar to Mewtwo's so its still a long snout whereas yours from the front looks like it is just looking downwards always and from the side appears that Peach hit it with her frying pan too hard.

I made a quick edit the other day on your model which I still haven't applied since it isn't done. so undone that the head is extremely long O_o

The issue with the hurt eyes was something I forgot about. Lucario's hurt bones didn't work how I thought they would. I had originally modeled an entire second face that lined up with the hurt eyes, but the original face didn't disappear when the hurt face appeared. Even though it was attached to the HeadM bone. So I just deleted the second face, and I forgot the hurt eyes were different. I can fix that.

The other pic where the eyes are gone completely I'm less sure about. Which version of the model are you using and what are the circumstances that make the eyes disappear?

...Who told you it was confirmed Mewthree? Because it's been confirmed to be Mewtwo.

Probably some little kid. Based on the grammar.

@Vaanrose & Everyone
Is this look better?

The reduced cheekbones might make it look more like the in-game model, but it makes it look less like the official art, which I prefer the look of. I'm not a big fan of the increased distance between the nostrils and the mouth, either. It makes him look less fierce. More friendly. I modeled him with a downward tilted snout specifically because he's tilting his head down in the official art.

You can do what you want with the model, that's what Share-Alike means. But I'd appreciate not having my thread cluttered with minor cosmetic edits and arguments for or justification thereof. If you do something more substantial or cool that involves my model, I'd love to see it, but otherwise, have fun, I don't need to see any more.

It's so... Detailed. It looks official... I like how you made him look like a cross between a feline, and lizard. I always thought the original one was like that too. The spec map, and normals look good, the rig seems really clean... All and all, very well done.

My bad. Don't know how I forgot that. I added the Fitmotion to the zip.

As far as the Hurt Eyes go.... I think it's the PSA. His normal eyes are rigged to the HeadM visibility bone, the hurt eyes to the OuchM bone. With Lucario, HeadM disappears when OuchM appears, but in the Mewtwo PSA... it doesn't.

any possibility of you recording yourself in some of your future custom models?

I'd do all eight original leaders, and a dozen or so of the later ones if time allowed.

You mean like record the process I use to make models? I don't do it all in one sitting, though. And I'm constantly pulling up the internet to Google random [censored] while I work.

Hm... Interesting, I also see Vaati's Wrath.

So... Who will he be over? Meta Knight like my old version? Or over someone like Bowser?

...

Also, I know this is HORRIBLY late. But about Missingno.... I had a random idea for alt final smash eyes...
What if his colors changed to look like Yellow Version Missingno.? (Ignoring the white there.) Would be kinda fitting, since this one is MUCH more buggy, often crashing the game and whatnot.

I was planning on Metaknight. Didn't even realize there was another version on him already.

Anyone else is welcome to do that. I've got other stuff I'd prefer working on.

Don't worry about it. It's a REALLY old hack that needs replacing.

It was just a retexture of that Zero-Two vertex.

At the moment. This form has no name...

I just call him Mewtwo X/Y form for now, until the official form name is revealed.

Hi. I'm here just to say you're amazing. The duck hunt dog was impressive, but the X/Y Mewtwo is absolutely outstanding. I'm already using it, and I'm sure the official models by Nintendo aren't better than this. Releasing a character only seen in a few screens and videos months before it's actually usable in official games is priceless.

Congrats, and keep up the amazing work ;)

The detail on the sword is insane, and I love it >.> Nice work bro, I really haven't seen any good attempts at the Great fairy sword, and you nailed a good level of texture and detail right off the bat.

I really can't tell if that is really custom made or the Soul Calibur 2 model.

It's ground-up custom. I used the Soul Calibur sword for reference on the rose inlet, though.

It's crunch week here, so don't expect too many updates until next week or so. I've got 45 pages worth of essays to write in the next week plus two design projects on top of that. OTL.

But in happier news, I'm part of Project M. :af:

But still, congratulations on making it in. I hope they aren't too strict on you.

Model work of course.

Probably for some new characters or something stage related... Assuming they finish the Clone Engine that is.

If anybody want the Great Fairy Sword, I put it up for download: http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=31951 (http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=31951)

Takamaru's getting put on hold for a bit, so my next hack will probably be Ramona.

Oh and the great fairy sword looks great, definitely gonna try it out.

There's your problem.
1. It's "pf/fighter/." No "s" at the end.
2. This hack is meant for Lucario, so the folder's name in the fighter folder is "lucario" (no quotes).
3. The character slots for Lucario are "FitLucarioXX" (XX being the slot number for Lucario).
