Title: Victory portraits?
Post by: metakirby5 on July 03, 2009, 06:30:44 PM
I'm a bit new to texture hacking, but I got characters and CSP down. I just want to know how to do victory portraits, since I can't find it anywhere.

CUPASH --- read the FAQ.

I already use CUPASH, it only replaces the CSP.

We are talking about the same thing... the images after battle with the 1-4 ranking... right?

Those are exactly the same thing as the CSP image. If you get one working, the other should work. You are copying both folders over, right? (Ignoring info --- since that's the in battle portraits)

I think he's talking about the portraits on the results screen. If so, erase the _en in common5_en.pac.

Which is exactly what I was referring to. But... common5 doesn't even handle that --- those misc. brres files created along side it do.

@picano
Are you talking about MenSelchFaceB###.brres? I noticed those were missing. Do I need to put them in the neededfiles folder?

Those should be automatically generated when you run step2. One for each modified character.

newfiles\menu\common\char_bust_tex

If you get a working modified common5, you should automatically get all those. (The same files are used for the CSP as the victory portraits --- so when step2 is run, those brres files are created first (and used as VPs), then copied/inserted into the common5 afterwards)

I looked in that folder, there was nothing there. Does it matter that I'm using a common5 that's already been modified?

Well... yeah.

Why would you be using an already modified one?

I started off using a texture pack put together by someone, and I just wanted to replace a few. Is it possible to replace the modified common5 with the original so it can make the MenSelchrFaceB###.brres?

It would take quite a bit more work than that.

You'd have to either...

1) Extract the modified images from the pac, place them in new files, make them CUPASH comaptible (magenta BG / index at 72) --- for every single already modified image.

or

2) Extract the MenSelchr brres files manually (via SSBExtract or SSBBarc) from each and every new common5 you make.

Although... you could also get a copy of the newfiles folder from the person who made your pac.

I don't think I can get a newfiles folder, so how do I extract the brres files?

EDIT: Why would it matter to get a copy of the newfiles folder?

Extracting... I don't know off hand and really don't want to search for it. Maybe VILE will come by and mention it.

If you can get a copy of their newfiles... then it'll create the proper files for those edited images.

I only need to make a victory portrait for one Kirby texture, so why would I need all the other .TGAs?

EDIT: I can live with something I probably won't even bother looking at. Too much complication for one picture ^_^;;
