Title: Questions.
Post by: Crusadent on April 21, 2013, 08:19:39 PM
Hello all,

I am now just getting started in installing and playing the hacks provided on the site.  Now, I took the time to read this beginner's guide by tjmsrubegoldberg (http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=12169.0), and it is very informative and helpful. I get the general idea of what to do, I just have some concerns and questions:

1)  When this guide talks about versions, it says not to update to the latest version.  I understand why this is, but what would be the optimal version to have on my wii to begin?

2) With regards to the first question, what version of Homebrew would I need to ensure compatibility?

3) I was reading that I need to make sure that the SD card is compatible.  Would this SD (http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Gaming-SDTM-Wii-SDSDG-2048-A11-Nintendo/dp/B000KBKBBM) be alright to use?

4) This question is for reassurance; any hacks I would install onto the SD would not affect the files on the disk.  Rephrasing: Homebrew or Gecko/Riivolution would read the hacks and simply make sure to use them over the original files, without altering them, correct?

5) Is there an updated video tutorial I can follow to make sure I am doing everything correctly?  I know its not hard to simply type "how to blah blah blah" into google or youtube, but if you have a video with the way current things are and the setup, that'd be great.

I thank you for taking the time to read and help me out with this, if you can.  I'm not worried of breaking my Wii or anything, I'm not that inept and clueless.  I just haven't played my Wii for a while, very used to PC gaming and whatnot, so I'm stepping into unknown territory if you will.

1). I don't think it matters at this point in time. Updating the Wii removes the Homebrew Channel, but there are ways to get Homebrew back that even Nintendo can't bypass.

2). Again, I don't think it matters... As long as if whatever you're using works...

3). That is perfect if you're using Gecko. For future reference, avoid getting SDHC Cards, and SD Cards 4-8 Gigs in size. If you using Riivolution, you can probably use an SD Card of a bigger size.

4). They don't alter anything in the disk. If a certain file is absent in the SD Card, it'll load the data from the disk instead.

5). You'll have to do your own research on that one, but I think you'll manage.
