Title: Freezing Solutions
Post by: matteron on February 27, 2010, 09:12:17 PM
Hello, today I bring you solutions to all the freezes that ever occurred to me.  If you have experienced any freezes and found way to solve them please post them.

Guide:
Red = Time game froze
Yellow = Solution

After first loading screen frame (With wiimote safety info.) There is a problem with your common3.pac.
After the "loading..." screen (With smash ball) Your info.pac is too big.  Open brawl box and shrink it by shortening most of the music titles.
At the end of a match This can be two things.  One, there is a problem with your stage file, or you quit the match with out ending twice in a row.
After selecting a stage This can be one of two things, one, your stage.pac is corrupt, or if you are using a .rel file, the .rel file is corrupt.

Freezing at the start of the match (When characters first appear on stage) - Can be due to a faulty portrait file. If the dimensions of the pic used in the portrait aren't 48x56, your game WILL freeze right before that character appears on stage.

Freezing in the middle of a match - If using custom music and this happens, it could be your SD card's fault (streaming custom music from your SD card slowly degrades the card)

Freezing at the end of a match (Results screen) - Faulty result screen portrait

So far these are the only three I've run into, but I'll post more as I come across them.

For any PAC file that's compressed or contains compressed archives, you must make sure that the file uses less memory than normal when edited.  The game will crash if the edited file uses more memory than its unedited counterpart.

Ex. 1: The file, sc_selcharacter.pac, is compressed, and uses 3.79 MB (3,975,244 bytes).  If you edit the file, and it uses more than 3,975,244 bytes, the game WILL crash.

Ex. 2: The file, STGDOLPIC.pac, is not compressed, but it does contain compressed archives, using up to 3.14 MB (3,297,376 bytes).  If you edit that file, it must use less than 3,297,376 bytes, or else you'll get a game crash.

This dilemma applies to any PAC files inside info2, menu2, stage\adventure, stage\melee, and system.

Reduce the quality of the edited images in your PAC. Open the PNGs with Photoshop, save as a separate PNG file, and lower the quality slider when saving the new file. This can drastically reduce the file's size, but might make the images look like baked [censored], so be careful.

When the game freezes after ending a match, and the reason is something about the stage where you've played, it's usually something wrong with the collisions (miscdata[2]) in the stage.

Custom CSS Random codes may also freeze the game on Results Screen.

If there's something wrong with them, that is.
Also, I heard Riivolution solves some freezes.

Marth freezes when I go to select him. He has been doing this ever since I tried using the full roy pack v2 on him. It froze when my mouse went over his slot. I removed everything (name, pacs, csp, portraits, ect..) and he still freezes when I go over him. I had to customize my CSS to remove his icon so I could stop freezing. Help???? He's my main, so this stinks :(

Note: I know I haven't fixed this but you guys seem to know how to fix tons of stuff so I posted this here.

My peach keeps freezing! all I've done is edit her motion.pac so that her neutral B is the warlock punch. (thanks to a friend who's name escapes me atm for the animation) Here's what I've tried.

The Usual partial moveswap method: Freezes at the CSS or right after I select the character.

Removing all the code in main and creating proper hitboxes on my own: freezes either at the CCS or stage selection screen.

Simply removing the Generate Artical command and altering the hitboxes and not messing with the other coding: insta freeze when the selection icon 'touches' the character(Right before it usually makes that sword seathing sound)

I'm using a Klonoa PSA over Lucas,and every Time I select him,if I quit,win or lose a Match regardless of whether I'm Using him or not, the Wii Freezes Black.
