Title: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. Post by: MrBojingo on June 11, 2014, 01:30:25 PM So i spent all day long yesterday downloading a crapton of mods. Then I spent all morning long watching tutorial videos on how to install them on the wii. So i tested it out on 5 different mods just to see if they'll work. I downloaded 2 different mods for Marth, 1 for ROB, 1 for Link, and 1 for Ike. When i booted up the game on my first attempt and switch colors on Link, the game froze and gave an annoying beep. 2nd attempt, the game froze on the stage select. The character portraits on the character select screen weren't showing up so i did something wrong. This is the steps i took when installing:
I put the 'fit' files in their respective 'fighter' folders. Though, i wanted to keep the original color, so i changed the number of the fit file from 'FitMarth00' to 'FitMarth01'. That's probably what's causing the problems, but i want to check here first to see if that's the case. 2nd thing i did was install brawlbox, open up Common5_eng.pac with it to replace the character select portraits with the ones i downloaded. Both of them. I didnt bother messing with the names. So i saved the changes on Common5, and renamed it to Common5.pac (like the tutorial said) and put it in the system folder that i was told to make (in the pf folder) Then i put the battle portraits in the info folder. Again, i changed the number on the file name to match the 'fit' file number i changed. The tutorial said to make sure the folder name was spelled 'portrite', so that's what i spelled it. Pointing that out incase that's a problem. I downloaded the RSBE01.gct as well, hopefully that's not causing the problems. Does anyone have any idea what i'm doing wrong? Do i need to have a patch code or something? Apparantly i needed a patch code to get my Xenosaga codes to work, but i didnt have 1 for smash bros. So i went into config to turn off patching. Title: Re: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. Post by: Allbait on June 11, 2014, 09:31:18 PM Make sure everything you added in the common5.pac is compressed like all the other files in it and make sure the ones you put in the folder are uncompressed, renaming fitmarth00 to fitmarth01 just makes it go over red Marth instead of the default color so it definately isn't a problem. It sounds like a problem with the common5.pac since it froze with portraits and icons being loaded. If you want to test out the hacks first to make sure it isn't them causing the crash try without the common5 and portrait folder to be sure it's all working right.
Where did you get that .gct? It might be a very old codeset. Title: Re: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. Post by: MrBojingo on June 12, 2014, 05:13:59 AM After about 10 min of searching, i found out where i downloaded the GCT file from "http://projectmgame.com/en/download". And i clicked the "Homebrew Option ZIP (Full Set)" download. This was like the first thing i downloaded. I first thought this Project M was necessary to hack, so i downloaded that. But then removed it thinking i can still mod without it. I removed it because it took up too much space on my SD Card.
Is there a more updated code set for me to download? Just incase that might be the problem, i want to make sure. In the meantime while i wait for a response, i'll take out the common pack to see if that's what's causing the problems. I'll keep checking back on this thread periodically, but i have to leave to go to work in about 5 hours (and work for about 6 hours). Edit: Btw, you mentioned to make sure the files are compressed. When i finished what i was doing with the Common file, i clicked save and it said something about compressing files while saving. Is this what you were talking about? Or is there another compression method that i need to do for each file individually? Edit 2: So i took out the common5.pac file, and even took out the stage i put in just to be safe. The only things that were left were the 'png' and 'brres' files in the 'portrite' folder. FitIke01.pac and FitIke01.pcs in the Fighter/ike folder. FitLink01.pac, FitLink01.pcs, FitLinkFinal.pac, and FitLinkMotionEtc.pac in the Fighter/link folder. FitMarth01-03.pac/pcs, FitMarthFinal.pac, FitMarthMotionEtc.pac in the Fighter/marth folder. And FitRobot00-06.pac/pcs (no FitRobot01) in the Fighter/robot folder. When i loaded the game with Link, Marth, Ike, and Robot (costume 2), I actually got past the stage select screen and the map finally loaded, but like 2 or 3 seconds after the fight started, the game froze with the beep of death. Furthermore, neither of the 4 mods loaded. They still had their alternate color costume. So either all 4 of those 'Fit' files aren't working or i'm missing some essential file necessary to activate all the mods. Title: Re: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. Post by: Allbait on June 12, 2014, 09:27:59 AM The Project M GCT is set to work with their pack, it's best for you to use codemanager to create your own codesets that will have anything you want them to. I've tried the link in the resources of the vault but the site may be down so I'm putting a link for the manager here along with my codes which has most of Project M, stage expansion and Brawlex compatability but don't worry, the text files included will have the removed codes included and you can choose what to have and what to remove (Although you shouldn't take out the first code). Place the gameconfig text file in the root of your SD card and it is suggested that you put the disable custom stages code back in if you're playing on an actual wii to avoid freezing.
Here is the SDHC code btw in case you're using a large SD card: http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=65342.0 (http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=65342.0) And finally: http://www.mediafire.com/download/7sxj6nwwc8jngm9/Codemanager.zip (http://www.mediafire.com/download/7sxj6nwwc8jngm9/Codemanager.zip) Just edit the codeset with codemanager and save them as text files to keep backups and when you're happy export them as GCT to use! The first code includes most of PM's codes. Be sure to place everything in the correct location BTW, projectM itself uses a different directory but this custom codes search in the regular locations so in the root of the SD you'll have 1 file (the gameconfig) and 2 folders, one called codes with the GCT and another called private which when opened will have another folder called wii that has another folder called app and finally in that one goes an RSBE folder, which is Brawl's folder, in which you will have the PF folder where you put your hacks so put the menu, system, fighter etc. Folders and files all in PF! Edit!: Woops, forgot to include all the codes I removed in that file. Well, here they are: Code: Melee Air Dodge v6.1 (1/2) [Shanus, Magus] Title: Re: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. Post by: MrBojingo on June 12, 2014, 10:25:07 AM Thanx for the info. Since i only have a 2g SD card, i dont think i have to worry about that one. As for the code sets, the only code i'm looking for is the one that'll allow me to mod my wii with gecko. I wont be using any cheatcodes for now. Brawl is fun the way it is. :-D
So the only 2 codes i'll really need is the first one and the disable custom stages codes, right? Or is there some other ones i might need to get it working? I'm hoping that GCT file i had was the reason why the fit files werent loading. I'll try it out when i get home from work. I have to head out in about 15-20 min. Edit: So i found the 'disable custom stage' code. However the 'first' code you said that i shouldnt take out.. are you referring to the bigass 'PEX code' in the ProjectEXCustom.txt file? Title: Re: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. Post by: Allbait on June 12, 2014, 01:02:53 PM The projectEXcustom.txt file contains several codes so keep the PEX code. But since you've now said that all you want is for brawl to be brawl (which is definately not what P:M's codes do xD) then you can literally just use this one code and create a new GCT. Its all you need to load character and stage files from the SD card (SFX are handled in a different code). In the files I included this code is included with many others in what I called the PEX code ;P
Code: File Patch Code v3.5.1: [Phantom Wings] But if you want to use my codeset on a Wii then yes, all you need is PEX and no custom stage codes, the other codes just allow it to load SFX from the SD and have extra stage slots to configure. Title: Re: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. Post by: MrBojingo on June 12, 2014, 04:46:16 PM by SFX, do you mean the wav. files that come with this pack: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/nakxywlvvnui1op/Hx1E6-T0wK (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/nakxywlvvnui1op/Hx1E6-T0wK) ? Because eventually i would like to get those sound files working, but getting the character replacements to load first is a top priority.
Edit: Oh, about the phantom wings code, the description calls it a 'file patch code' in the txt document. Does this mean it needs to be in the patch folder? or do i replace the one in the code folder with it? Title: Re: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. Post by: Allbait on June 12, 2014, 05:02:59 PM Just make it into a GCT and replace the one in the codes folder. The .wavs are usually in the sawnd files, I don't know if they can be loaded as well.
Title: Re: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. Post by: MrBojingo on June 12, 2014, 06:36:23 PM kk, i'll try them out tomorrow. its getting kinda late right now.
Edit: Well, i'm stumped now. I went to the gecko codes site, picked up the RSBE01.txt list, copypasta'd the phantom wings code you posted into the RSBE01.txt file, then copypasta'd the 'disable custom stage' code into the RSBE01.txt file, opened it with codemanager, turned on both codes, then popped it into the wii and tried it again. selected all 4 characters on the proper colors where my costumes are set, then went to stage selection screen, and it froze. Was actually a delayed reaction freeze this time. I got the cheering sound effects you get when you select your stage, and about 2-3 seconds later, the beep of death started. It started as a faint beep and then grew to the normal loud beep. I'm guessing i'll have to take out all but 1 of the fit files to see if its one of them. If it turns out that the Missingno is the cause... that'd just be funny. Title: Re: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. Title: Re: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. Post by: MrBojingo on June 14, 2014, 01:30:32 PM The problem is, i havent done anything with the stages, they're all default. The only thing i edited was Ike, Link, Marth, and Rob. I took out all of the FitRobot files and its still locking up on the stage selection screen. (after hitting start). I'm beginning to wonder if i have something in the wrong spot. Is it possible for one of the default stages to get corrupted?
Edit: Just to rule out any misplaced files, can anyone look at my SD card contents and make sure i have everything where it belongs? http://www.mediafire.com/download/ix6ks9odvei28p2/SD+Card.rar (http://www.mediafire.com/download/ix6ks9odvei28p2/SD+Card.rar) Title: Re: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. Post by: Makarew on June 14, 2014, 02:12:18 PM Since I'm to lazy to download anything, delete all stuff related to Brawl and use my template (http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=204456). That would mean delete your codes and your RSB? folder. Also, my codeset included is for NTSC-U. It is possible for default stages to get corrupt. My Luigi's Mansion hasn't worked in forever.
Title: Re: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. Post by: MrBojingo on June 14, 2014, 02:57:47 PM my folder layout seems to be almost an exact duplicate of yours. But i have a 'title' folder in there as well in the private/wii folder. Would that be the cause?
Edit: Also, i heard that custom stages can mess up the hacks. I had like 10-20 custom stages on my wii's harddrive from back in 2008, but i didnt even try to access the custom map menu let alone select one of the stages. Would that be causing the problem just by having custom stages on the hard drive? Edit2: Well, i deleted the Link and Marth hacks, left the Ike one in there. Deleting all of my custom stages, and replaced the gct file with the new one. I booted up the game, and the Ike hack actually worked.. kinda... ... ... I thought 'fitike01' was the '2nd' Ike (yellow), but for some odd reason, it replaced the '3rd' Ike. I am confuzzled. But at least i know my stage isnt corrupted. I tested out skyworld without gecko to see if it was that one, but it loaded (via a tiny bit of loading lag). So i'm gonna see if i can figure out why Ike is on the wrong color. Edit3: That's weird, the Ike hack actually worked, but after adding in the 'fitikefinal.pac' and 'fitikemotionetc.pac' files (that came with the pack), and booting up the game, the game froze in the character select screen about 5 seconds after selecting ike. didnt give me time to change his color. I'm beginning to wonder if getting that hack to work that one time was a fluke. Title: Re: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. Post by: Makarew on June 14, 2014, 06:28:20 PM I've had it happen where it freezes after selecting a character once before. It confused me a little so I checked again and it didn't freeze. Also, did it come with a FitIke.pac?
Title: Re: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. Post by: MrBojingo on June 15, 2014, 04:36:50 PM Yes, it came with a FitIke.pac file. But i assumed the pac files were for online. i didnt think it would cause any problems if i'm playing offline.
Edit: Oh, you must be referring to the fitikefinal.pac and fitikemotionetc.pac. Yes, they both came with the file. Is there any special places those 2 files are suppose to go? or anything special to do with them to make them work? Title: Re: Trying to mod characters, not sure if i did it right. If it's a moveset you'll need all three, Fitike.pac, Fitikemotionetc.pac and fitikefinal.pac in the same location together. They go in the ike folder in the fighters folder. Fit.pacs are moveset data, Fit-Motionetc.pacs are animation data and article animation/model data and Fit-Final.pacs are called for finalsmashes. |
