Title: Opening a .dat file.
Post by: Ҩᴜᴇᴇɴ on September 01, 2014, 09:55:39 AM
Okay, seeing as my last post was completely ignored.
How do you open a .dat file?
Someone mentioned opening the ccs.dat to take out characters.

How do you do that?
How do you open it?

I have a specific way I want my Roaster to look.

something along these lines:

Top Row:
Ike: Dante
C. Falcon: Goku.
Lucario: Buu.
Link: Zero.
Marth: Lucina.
Roy: His own Custom File.

Second:
Olimar: Dark Sonic.
JigglyPuff: Knuckles.
ROB: Metal Sonic.
Wario: Shadow.
MetaKnight: Tails.
Mario: Mario.

Third:
ZZS: ZZS.
Toon Link: Vera.
Peach: Rosalina.
Zelda: Zelda.
Sonic: Sonic.
Samus: Samus.

Fourth:
All the same as the portraits show.

If someone can do this for me, or teach me how to do it, so I can stop asking others. I'll be greatful.
I hate asking others for assistance. Annoying enough that no one can rig a model, for me.
Maybe teaching me how to edit my CSS might be easier.

HxD, a hex editor.

But don't, really, don't mess with this if you don't know what you're doing.

I believe CSSRoster.dat is the file you want to edit?

Well, i don't know what I am doing.
I really don't.

So could someone give me a step by step?
How to open.
What to edit.
How to take css out.
How to make it so there is only a set ammount of charcters in the roaster.
How to make it so it won't freeze.

HxD editor.
Okay, what do I do after that?

Get a clean CSSRoster.dat. Someone from the Brawl Expansion thread can help you get one.

Then get the BrawlExConfigUtility. It can edit the Roster file. You won't need the HxD if you use it.

Just open CSSRoster.dat with BrawlExConfigUtility, and edit the roster to your liking. This will help you organizing the roster any way that you might want, and keep it with as many characters you want too. Just remember to keep "29" in there since it is the Random icon.

Nope... you can open CSSRoster with it. I'm doing so right now.

BrawlExConfigUtility v1.3, just to clarify!

Ok, I made my CSSRoster.
What now? Where do I put it?

lol, nevermind the spam guy.

The CSSRoster file goes inside the BrawlEx folder in pf.
Just to clarify, are you using BrawlEx?

I do believe so, yes. And even though I saved it.
I tried opening it and it made it 100 mario's.

Despite it being only 28 characters.

Not sure if that is supposed to happen.

Plus, I think there is supposed to be a CSS Code?

No, no CSS code is needed.

There is a chance you're using an outdated BrawlEx. Did you try your CSS roster and it had 100 Marios?

I tried opening my new CSSRoster in the Config, to see if it would work.

But showed a bunch of Mario's. :<

Trying it ingame, now... and...
shows all the Characters it had before.

-Yawns-
Basically the entire BrawlMinus cast.
Mario to Roy to Pichu. -sighs-

Can you take a screenshot and show me what does it look like when you open the roster in the utility?

*eye twitches*

What the hell.

Is that the CSSRoster that came with the hack you're using? I have no clue why it looks like that - even more so, if the roster shows as a ton of Marios, there should be only Marios on your CSS when you booted up your game, and not a full roster. That probably means you have a custom CSS code on your GCT.

You should have calrified that you're using a modset, like Brawl Minus. I was supposing you either had a vBrawl pack like Nebulon's or were starting from scratch. Oh well...

Here's what it was supposed to look like:

Okay. Save the file, plug your SD back on your Wii, turn your Wii off, and turn it on again.
Now tell me what happens when you get to the CSS.

I sent another message.
Of the way I'd like it to be.

And if I delete the custom css code, would it work?

I'm confused.

Also edited my post.

If you're using the most recent BrawlEx, no CSS code is needed. The CSSRoster file is a modern replacement to that method.

EDIT: Wait, why two Lucarios? They'll both be the same, you know!

o crap.
Woops.

So I should delete the code, then.

Question. What about the other ones?
The slot.dat's
The config.dat's
The other dats?

What happens with them?
Should I delete them as well?

Post Merge: September 01, 2014, 03:17:29 PM
And the second 20, was meant to be 02. Not 20. Silly me.

Oh God.

No, I don't think you need to. Hopefully you won't have to.
Keep them in their places, and don't delete the GCT! Just the code for custom CSS.

I didn't delete the entire GCT, just the CSS code.
Now.... loading up and
... the original Cast. Ooo~

So THIS is how you got the original cast?
By deleting the CSS code?
if I knew that long ago, I'd of done it.
Dayum.
Anyway, yeah. Not what I had in mind 100%.
I may of put it in the wrong spot, maybe?

Do I put the cssroster in the Brawlex folder?
Or JUST in the PF folder?

Put the edited roster file in pf/BrawlEx.

Put it there.
Deleted the CSS code.
Got the original cast.

is there a specific folder I need to put it in? Or just BrawlEX?
Jeese, I am a noob. I am so sorry.

It's okay. Don't worry.

Yeah, it is just pf/BrawlEx. Did you turn the Wii off? It doesn't refresh if you don't.
Also, make sure you have bx_fighter.rel on the module folder. I think it is needed for the roster to work.

I have a BX_Fighter.rel

I may need a new one, though.
It may make it load the new roster.

Download the BrawlEx CSS Expansion v1.0.2.0. It will have the files needed.

I'd greatly advise you to take a look at the OP at the Brawl Expansion thread. There really is a lot for you to learn...
