Title: On the fly costume switcher v2.0 (switch between 12 textures now!)
Post by: wiiztec on April 22, 2010, 03:13:59 PM
On the fly costume switchers v2.0 (GCC)
along with this code which is a modification of Phantom Wings's File Patch Code v3.5.1(it replaces the normal file patch code), these codes will allow you to (in a time match or in a stock match with 3 or more players) change between 12 different alternate costumes using button activators, you can also use this to switch between a character and it's PSA counterpart(note: you cannot change directly between corrosponding costumes of the 2 sets eg you can't change directly between the 1st costumes of the 1st and 2nt sets),the second set of textures (or any other custom files) goes in SD://private/apps/rsbe/mt you can also select the second set of custom files before the start of the match by holding L on the first player's controller untill the match starts

It's probably too long unless you put it in a snapshot

I don't quite understand. Let me see if this is right. So this opens up 12 possible costumes per character by splitting them into 2 sets. We can access these costumes by holding down the corresponding buttons before a match (or by On the fly you mean DURING a match?) And we HAVE to have 3 or more players in a match? I hope it's as easy and straightforward as replacing regualr textures. The fact that I could, in theory finally have Peach and Rosalina or Zero and Link separate sound almost too good to be true (not to mention having more textures available at one time.

I hope the code's refined to simply allow 12 costumes. I picture having costume switching in the middle of the match to be a little hectic.

You don't have to switch in the middle of a match if you hold L untill the match starts you will use a texture from the second set. you only have to be in a time match or a stock match with 3 or more players if you plan to switch costumes in the middle of the match

Also if you want the CSP's from the second set to show up you have to start holding L before the CSS loads

Okay I'm getting it (sorry, still a little behind as far as Brawl hacking goes ^^).

So if I did NOT care for "On-the-fly" costume switching, I only need that first code, right? And is the second set of textures still structured like the first set? Like Wario gets 12 additonal costumes with 6 for each model. Basically it would be the same as always except the textures go in a different folder?

ok this sounds amazing in the sense i can make different versions of a texture, but wat wuld we name/place the 2nd set?

It's in bold text on the first post for christ's sake

and yes beyond mt the folder structure is the same that you'd use for pf

and yes if you don't care about switching on the fly then you only need the first code

Okay made a new GCT with this and a camera code, and I get nothing. I tested it out by keeping all my old textures and having lensho's Rosalina Peach in the MT folder, and I get neither my original textures or the Rosalina texture. My mt is Private/Wii/app/RSBE/ along with the PF folder.

Please help :(

EDIT: tried putting both your code and the Phantom Wings code together (as 2 different codes). I can get my old pf textures but still can't get Rosalina Peach to show up by holding L, and when I back back out the match it freezes.

Of course you need the original pf file patch code as well I had assumed this was obvious.
The mt file patch code also needs to be below the pf one on your GCT

Just to be sure you had Rosalina peach in mt/fighter/peach right? and you held down L on the first gamecube controller starting before you selected the character with the circle and continuing to hold it down untill the match started right?

Well you said it was a modification of Phantom Wings code, so I thought it "replaced" the need for the original code.

Anyway, I made sure the PF code was first and my pf textures work fine again. But I still can't get the mt textures to work. Unless you actually meant the mt file to actually go under private/wii/apps with an S instead of app where the pf texture is. I don't know what the deal is. I've tried holding L even before going to the select screen

Yes use windows calculator in hex mode to subtract 80 from every line to the right of every line begining with 28 and then it will work

Are you talking the bold line, or are you referring to the lines that are a bunch of 0s and ends with 28? And is it the WHOLE line, or is just those 8 numbers. Goota make sure I do the math right ^^

And just to clarify file placement. Are you SURE it's SD://private/apps/rsbe/mt because my pf folder is SD://private/wii/app/rsbe/pf

I forgot I had a not before it the bolded line should be changed to 284DE4B1 FFBF0040

Okay! Got it to work! Here's a couple things I noticed.

It seems VERY touchy with the L Button. The game crashed several times whenever I tried to exit a match. I think a precise way to press the buttons to quit is needed, because sometimes it did it, sometimes it didn't. If this is some kind of Wavebird only problem, I'm afraid I don't have any regualar Gamecube controllers to test it.

I decided to place Mac_elef's texture pack in the MT folder and discovered that if you hold the L Button when the "Ready to Brawl" message appears and continue holding it while picking a stage, the stage PAC in the Mt folder will be used (!!!) However if you start holding L on the Stage Select screen, it'll freeze.

But damn if you could just iron out these bugs, this is probably the most substantial and useful Ocarina code for Brawl since Phantom Wing's original code.

I'm well aware that it loads stages it's no more limited to character textures than the regular file patch code, that said I don't know why it's freezing on you under the same circumstances it does not freeze on me regardless I have updated the code to fix a problem that should be unrelated to your problems.

Try it anyways and tell me if it fixes anything, of course since you use a wavebird you'll have to replace that line again

Oh and the updated code is meant to replace the regular file patch code now since you had mistakenly assumed so before

Well I tried loading that new code up in Code Manager and it somehow comes up to 287. I know there's that Snapshot hack but I can't seem to find the right tools to incorporate your code with a screenshot or however that works.

I'm curious though, how are you loading the game? Maybe it's my IOS/Loader (249 Rev 17)?

I use a snapshot I emailed you the necessary tools

Thanks, but when I made your code as a GCT using Code Manager and converted it into an Album bin file (properly named) I load it up and I see the garbled green image and simply back out and it doesn't work. Is there a proper way to view it? Is there a regular GCT needed in the codes directory?

I only changed the one line from before, but there was another line that started out as 28 at the top.

It's supposed to be garbled and you need the load codes from snapshot code in your regular GCT

And leave that first line with 28 alone

Well we can FINALLY breathe a sigh of relief. It works just fine and dandy now. No more crashes! Thanks for being so patient and helpful with me.  :)

I'd only say now from playing around with it. If you use a pf texture but hold L on the map screen. You'll get the corresponding stage from the mt folder AND any and all the battle portraits will load from the mt folder as well causing some mismatched images and textures. And sometimes even when switching from mt back to pf, the mt portraits and Final Smashes will still be present. And a minor limitation (justy pointing it out, doesn't really bug me) You can't load a Mushroomy Kingdom 1-1 Texture from the mt folder because holding L automatically makes the stage 1-2

Other than that though, it's awesome.

Yes I've noticed if you load a texture from mt it will be there untill you change your character on the CSS and you can change it right back so all you have to do is select another character then reselect the character

It's actually sort of an advantage without it their'd be no way to play on pf stages with mt textures short of swapping the textures on the fly

oh and you can toggle the pf files off/on with C+1 on P1's wiimote

Yes but how fast I'll get around to it depends on whether or not you care about being able to switch textures during a match

Yes but you can't have a character and his psa counterpart against each other in the same match, you can switch between them in the middle of a match though

Think of it like your pf folder it's the same thing it's just mt instead of pf

WTF? no it would be rsbe/mt/fighter/peach

And you need that code on top It replaces your normal FPC, if you mean that code I just posted above your post then that's for that guy who wanted it to work with wiimote+nunchuk instead of GCC

Unless you also use wiimote+nunchuk then you need the code at the top of the first post

k, wiiztec, i would love to have this glorious invention u hav created, becuz i is so amazing it makes me want to shine light in those regions in which light has never shined, spreadin glorious holyness troughout everything, created peace and justice in a world full of bacon.

but teh programz tey confoozes meh. could u make a .gct with the FPC and these codes(with a 2nd versions including the things u need for custom CSSs and the alloy thing)
mainly because i cant do it myself, i forgot how i did it in the first place, and ill do anything for u afterwards :D

tl;dr
i love this, make me a gct with this, the FPC, the custom CSS code, and the alloy code and i will do anything

Yes i do use Nunckuck but not with this code(I was using the first post )
Kay so its like this
private\wii\app\RSBE\MT\Fighter\Character(Peach for now)\Fitstuff.pac
So then i need this code
Hold Z on P1's nunchuk
Code:
[/quote]
Plus the Player 1-4 on the first post?

You need the nunchuk code if you intend to hold down Z on the nunchuk instead of L on the GCC otherwise you need the code at the beginning of the first post, you never should have both of them

Hmm... I'm having a little bit of a problem with your code.  When I added it, i started up Brawl and now my camera will zoom into the center of the stage and not move from it.

Give me your codeset and I'll figure out what the problem is, it's definitely one of your code that is conflicting with it because my code doesn't alter the camera in any way

Yea... nevermind I figured it out.  I put the wrong replay camera code on.

Wait, I just thought of something. Can you use this code to have custom music with Phantom Wings Stage Roster Expansion code? Example: you have replaced all Battlefield tracks. You grab the code and put other Battlefield song replacements in the folder mt\sound\strm. You boot up Brawl and in the CSS you hold the L button and then go to the SSS (this normally replaces the music) When you choose the custom stage, will the songs from the mt folder play? Or will I get the original songs?

Felt this deserved a bump, but I also had a question wiiztec.

I noticed Masterlinkx's texture pack uses a similar code to yours
https://elitesmashhackers.wordpress.com/2010/03/27/brawl-masterlinkxs-custom-brawl-pack/

Only it uses X+Y for extra stage textures.

What I'm wondering is, would it be possible to COMBINE the two codes and hold L for alternate textures AND hold XY for alternate stage textures. Or would that be too much for the game to handle? I just figured, it's TECHNICALLY possible to hold L for the alternate picture and let go on the stage select and still get the alternate texture.

This code works the same way for stages just begin holding L on the stage select screen

Hey wiiztec, would it be possible to modify the code to allow it to load from a third folder by holding Z? I'd really appreciate it if it is. o.o

Wow, this looks like just what I've been waiting for. I'm currently using a mashup of MasterlinkX's pack, the Brawl- codeset, and PW's 9 extra stages code, loaded via the Stage Builder exploit.

My favorite thing about MLX's pack is how alternate versions of stages are set to load if you hold down Y+A when you select the stage. I'd like to use your alternate file loader for character textures in conjunction with the A+Y alternate stages code...

Is there some set up where A+Y at the SSS loads alternate stages from Folder A, while holding down L (or maybe Z) after selecting your character/until the SSS appears/as the match starts will load the alternate texture and .pac files for that character from Folder B? I'd like to be able to load alternate characters without having to load alternate stages as well, and vice versa.

Also, could the Y+A alternate stages code load alternate music for the alternate stage somehow?

Lastly, a few more quick questions:

Do button codes involving L or R cause problems with exiting a match via L+R+A+Start?

Once you press the button activator for alternate characters (such as L or Z) at the CSS, can you let go of those buttons immediately, or must you hold them until you enter the SSS or until the match starts? After a match using alternate files, I assume the textures return to the default set, and the button activator must be entered again to use the alternate files again...?
