Title: SD Card Failing?
Post by: TeenLukus on December 04, 2016, 08:19:41 AM
It works in my pc with no problems. But lets say i have a build on it with codes and such. i plug it into my wii.
And it loads normal brawl. i've tried 6 builds and it does this with all of them.. any ideas?

What are you using? Are you using Gecko? Gecko Hackless? Riivolution? Riivolution Hackless? Some other method?

You tried to help I think you should take the thank you. ;)
This has gotten me thinking about codes now. I wonder if I have the same issue, or if it's something else for me when I try to load cheat codes.

I heard somewhere that there is a way to use cheat codes on Riivolution. I mean the same kind people normally use with gecko, like I used to.

Using the Homebrew Channel, the Gecko Channel, or with Hackless?

Did you put the codes in the codes folder at the root of the SD?

Like so, "SD:/Codes

Is it like that?

i'm uploading a vid rn everything is in the right place

And what directory are you using for your hacks?(i.e. Where is your "fighter" folder or "stage" folder located?)

Post Merge: December 04, 2016, 02:44:07 PM
Also, what does it say for the directory in the .xml file?

Ok, but is named RSBP or RSBE? I had that problem when I first began using codes.

EDIT: Do you have Riivolution installed? It's easier (in my opinion) to use hacks for brawl with Riivolution. If you're just trying to load hacks (etc, Pf/fighter/Link), then Riivolution is easier. Let me know if this is the case, because I can help you if it is.

PM me the hacks you are using, I might be able to figure out the issue. It seems pfMenu2 loads fine, but the rest won't.

Could be you named a folder or two incorrectly. Worth a look.

Would you mind screenshotting your config options in Gecko? I think that might be why. Alternatively, I noticed that your strap loader worked perfectly, and the strap loader file is located inside the pf folder, so it might be folder names that's the problem. So would you also mind uploading the contents of your pf folder?

Wait, nvm on my second statement; I didn't see that you posted it. Would you mind posting a screenshot of your Gecko config options, though?

Ok, I believe that I have pinpointed the problem. Would you please test my hunch by ignoring, just flat out ignoring, what the CSS looks like, just for this experiment, and choose Mario(Default skin) and then a computer and start a match? And then lemme know if you see Mario or Banjo-Kazooie in-game?

Just Mario.

Ok; so, even though you need a different common5.pac in your system folder(Since right now, it's just the default, and so if you change it, then you can know when it's working), that isn't the problem. So, hunch B: What are your Config Options set to in Gecko? Would you mind uploading a screenshot?

My Common5 pac is named common5_en.pac. If the CSS screen is the issue and not the characters moves, then check that the sc_selcharacter.pac matches.

My is called sc_selcharacter_en.pac, yours should be sc_selcharacter.pac.
Remove "_en" from sc_selcharacter_en.pac, but not from common5. If you did alter the CSS screen and it doesn't work, try adding _en to the common5 file.

Post by: windhunter7 on December 04, 2016, 09:35:47 PM
Well, that's what I was saying, was that the CSS isn't the issue, although he does need to have non-Vanilla Brawl as the actual common5 file. I think the issue is likely with his Gecko settings.

Its the normal gecko settings, nothing is changed.

Ok, some questions:

1) Is your Wii PAL, NTSC-U, or NTSC-J?
2) Is your CD PAL, NTSC-U, or NTSC-J?
3) For hook type, have you tried with VBI, or with AXNextFrame?
4) What size is your SD card, and is it an SD card or an SDHC card?
5) Have you tried running Project M Hackless, to check if it's your SD card or if it's Gecko?

Title: Re: SD Card Failing?
Post by: TeenLukus on December 05, 2016, 02:17:33 PM
NTSC-U For both

I've tried with all the hook types, it loads normal brawl.

1.81 SDHC

Honestly, sometimes it loads up the full pack, but not for long at all.

I dont use hackless

Title: Re: SD Card Failing?
Post by: windhunter7 on December 05, 2016, 02:19:06 PM
Ok, so it's the SD card that's the problem, then. Try using Riivolution. Gecko isn't really compatible with SDHC cards, and I think that's probably your problem. Riivolution has certain advantages anyways. :P

Title: Re: SD Card Failing?
Post by: TeenLukus on December 05, 2016, 02:21:46 PM
Rivo is hard to use, most my packs use codes and rivo seems to ignore codes and load normal brawl.

Title: Re: SD Card Failing?
Post by: windhunter7 on December 05, 2016, 02:25:33 PM
Well, it's either Riivo or a different SD card. Or, alternatively, I haven't actually tested this theory yet, but this should theoretically work to reformat your card to 2 GB( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrL6yztKkPc (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrL6yztKkPc) ) And please lemme know if this does work(If you end up doing it before I do), since I wanted to know if this would work anyways.

Title: Re: SD Card Failing?
Post by: TeenLukus on December 05, 2016, 02:30:40 PM
Nope. I hate project m anyways.

Title: Re: SD Card Failing?
Post by: windhunter7 on December 05, 2016, 02:35:32 PM
Nope to what? The first, second, or third thing I said? Or all 3? And that isn't just for Project M. He was using it for Project M with Gecko, and Project M with Gecko is the same SD-card-wise as loading anything else with Gecko; just different files.

Title: Re: SD Card Failing?

Nothing is working. I guess my brawl hacking days are over.. and my dad isn't gonna buy me a new SD

Apologies if you have already, but have you tried reformatting your SD card again, then re-copying everything over?

Title: Re: SD Card Failing?

Did both, same thing happened.

Title: Re: SD Card Failing?

And you said that that one guy's method of reformatting the SDHC to SD didn't work, either?

Oh, man, I hope that somehow something works; cause honestly, I'm stumped. From all the previous boards that I looked at, these solutions fixed the problem O_O

This sucks cause I have no game play testers for my projects.

If you're using an SDHC card, you'll need the SDHC Extension 1.1 (http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=65342.0) code in your .gct. Also, Gecko has issues with that code so you'll want to use Project M's launcher (or USB Loader GX's Gecko codehandler) to load your mods from an SDHC card.

I cant even open GCT files. the gct editor link is not working

You could always try the Project M Launcher, just the launcher, and then in place of all the Project M files, place your mods, and see if that works.

Title: Re: SD Card Failing?

I tried Hackless Project M loaded the title, i played one match with luigi then it went back to normal brawl

Title: Re: SD Card Failing?

I think Hackless Project M isn't as compatible with SDHC cards, though, whereas SDHC cards are supposedly usable by Project M Non-Hackless. Did you try that?

Title: Re: SD Card Failing?

huh? non hackless is just hombrew and that did the same.

if you have a problem with sdhc than just use it running the hacked project m launcher

Title: Re: SD Card Failing?

Oh, I just realized one last thing you could try: Hackless Riivolution; that's right, I previously bookmarked a link to a direct download of a hackless version of Riivo that uses the same Stage Builder Exploit, so if you download this, and put it on your SD, and go into regular Brawl and then go to Stage Builder(After deleting all custom stages), this should work.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/22269463/Brawl%20Wifi/HacklessWifiRiivolution.zip

Post Merge: December 06, 2016, 07:30:51 PM
That way it can do the same stuff that Riivo can, like be able to use larger SD cards, only hackless will mean that you don't have to do the hard part of setting up a channel or anything. Hopefully, if you can get this to work, that means you can stay. :)

If you're using an SDHC card without the SDHC code that I previously mentioned your SDHC card will be ignored. The links to the Code Manager in the resources section seem to be down but Brawlbox also has a code manager in the tools menu. I haven't used the Brawlbox code manager but it should be able to convert a list of codes in a .txt file to a .gct
