Title: Problems with Marth's eyes!

So I recently made a Darth Marth texture, and I noticed while playing that his eyes are crazy. I changed the eyes at first but then reverted them, and it still happened. Then I tried taking red-looking eyes from another texture and applying them - didn't work. I even tried taking a brand new unedited fitmarth00.pac and simply replacing the textures on that with the darth ones, aka I didn't change the eyes at all - still happened. Here's some pics.

anyone know how I can fix this? I really want to make his eyes red....

You do realize that Marth's eye iris is a CI8 texture, right?

The eye iris's texture format has to be in CI8 format, and its palette is in RGB5A3 format.  If you don't do that, then the eye iris will get messed up.

No, I didn't know that....it exports in a .PNG format....but that still doesn't explain why it got even MORE messed up when I loaded a brand new texture...

What IS a CI8? I've never even heard of that before.

CI8 is one of the texture formats used in Brawl.  There are 10 different texture formats, and each one operates in various ways.

The CI8 format is one of two texture formats that use palettes; the other being CI4.  The CI8 textures can have up to 256 colors, while the CI4 textures can have up to 16 colors.  Palette formats can be IA8, RGB565, or RGB5A3.

Also, DO NOT change the texture formats of the texture parts that you're editing.  The texture will either get messed up or your game will crash.

He means when you replace the texture in brawlbox make sure that it says that format for the format dropdown.

when you import the texture in there should be a list of formats next to the preview, make sure that it is in CI8 format, and its palette is in RGB5A3 format, like Msng said.

I never changed any of the options....that's what the window looks like...still messed up.

make sure u index the textures that say "True" i have edited marth before many times n u do need to index the eyes

I'm pretty sure Kryal made sure that with the latest version of Brawlbox you don't have to index it.

It didn't.....is there any way someone can just take the .pac that I made and fix this? It's really kinda pissing me off, every time I try to fix it it just comes out looking even worse...

Can you use the no cape/tiara/breastplate model? I'm trying to fix mine and it's still messing it up.

First, I replaced the eyes on mine with the eyes from yours and got this:

Then I took the no tiara/cape/breastplate model and applied it to your texture and got this:

Is it a problem with the model I'm using? Because other than that I have no idea what could be causing this anymore.

this is what i did:
1. i exported the eye texture
2. edited it
3. i deleted the eye palette from the textures on the fitmarth00.pac
4. imported the edited eye textue.
5. Profit.

To add to this, the texture formats, RGB5A3 and RGBA8, are known for having multiple transparent colors, which aren't seen with the PNG format, even in Photoshop CS3 and CS4.  In cases like that, export the textures as TarGA (.tga) images and edit them in CS3 or CS4.

And like ItalianStallion said, never export textures as GIF images.

I always do export as a .png. So you're saying for things like the eyes I should export as .tga? Maybe I'll try that next time, thanks.

Actually, it's only recommended to export texture parts as TarGA (.tga) images if they're in the IA4, IA8, RGB5A3, and RGBA8 formats, since those are the texture formats that utilize multiple transparent colors.  Likewise, CI4 and CI8 textures that use IA8 and RGB5A3 palettes are fair game too.

However, you can still export textures as PNG images if they're in the I4, I8, and RGB565 formats, since those formats don't utilize transparency at all.  This also applies to the CI4 and CI8 textures that use RGB565 palettes.

Lastly, CMPR textures only accept "1" transparent color, so you can export the CMPR textures as PNG images without any worries.
