106  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Character Vertexes and Textures / Re: The Smash 3 Project - GET YA GUTS ON! on: July 09, 2014, 09:48:12 PM
One minor thing I might add, which I've noticed about Brawl Ike, is that the base of Ragnell's blade is actually inaccurate to the game. Just a small detail like a green gem and the shape of the base.
Good eye. We'll see about adding it when we update Ike's model, thanks for pointing that out!

Are you ready guys?

Get ya guts on! Ike is here!

And we've got an extra costume based on Lord Ike as well:

That's not all, we've also updated the sword trails for Link, Marth, and Roy. Enjoy!

It looks the same because it uses the same base, I'm guessing. The PMBR aren't really the type of people to just grab stuff without credit.

They've actually been working on Light Suit Samus for a while, as evidenced by that leak from a while back.

Try painting on more shadows and highlights or making them much more obvious, I could only really see the shadows on his forehead!
110  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Character Vertexes and Textures / Re: The New Project Mirage Recolor Thread! on: June 19, 2014, 07:14:20 PM
Though I am not a fan of it, is this okay?
I like it better than before. The colour still feels kinda off, maybe the purple is too saturated? Or maybe it's too pink? Maybe just a slight shift towards blue will work a bit better.

Also, the bit of her shirt part on her hip (between the black folds) should be the same colour as the top half, since it's connected.

And finally, the really dark spots on the bottom of the dress look really off, the shadows should be more dark purple than complete black.

I wouldn't change the colour of her gloves. The default colours are all white, the black makes it look really off. The top part of her dress (the black part) seems off too, I'd change that to a lighter purple.

And generally, lighten up the colours a bit. Peach is a really bright and more "friendly" character, the darker colours throw that off I think.

Those are cool, yeah. What happened with the Generations model, anyhow?
It's really just the issue of getting the model to be completely lag-free that's stopping us, the textures are all done.

Nice! I like these a lot, and makes me wish we could release the new Sonic model...

Nice, those look quite good!
Sonic's pose wasn't actually based on anything, as well as Sheik's. What's the Lost World artwork it's similar to?
115  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Character Vertexes and Textures / Re: AlGeorgeRomo: Remastered Melee Texture Hacks on: May 30, 2014, 02:20:34 AM
Nice, I'd say that looks much better!

There isn't a Phazon Suit in Super Metroid, only Varia and Gravity.

I personally think it'd be better using the screenshot Xeno posted for reference, the red is really bright currently.

That's why we couldn't quite get the model the way we wanted. Rather than the "strong leader" we were aiming for, he was more like a "teen gang leader" so we sorta just switched to Ranger part way.

But it'll be much easier now that we've got a reference!

Well, for those curious, this is as far as we got the model and textures:

This is extremely early in development, but I thought you guys would like to see what we originally had planned.

That said, we still plan to roll with Brawl/Ranger Ike for the time being, but you can expect us to pick up work on Radiant Dawn Ike at a later point in time.

You guys kinda have a reference to work off of with Ike now that he's been announced. Maybe you could implement his new look in some way.
Oddly, it's the look we were originally going to roll with before we had some issues getting the model the way we wanted it...

I may have said too much!

Opinions on the new logo are interesting, I'm wondering what exactly you two don't like about it? It'd help us fix it, I personally hated the shape of the old one which is why I redid it.

I have mixed feelings about this change in direction.

From the get-go the thing I admired most about this project was the fact that it abandoned Smash oriented designs in favor of Nintendo's traditional designs. I appreciated this a lot because it resonated very strongly with my own ambitions for this game; to fix the mistakes Sakurai made.

However, with Smash 4 Sakurai is fixing many of those visual mistakes, so I can't say I'm that disappointed in the long run. However, I feel it's worth warning you guys that Nintendo's style should still take precedence over anything Smash puts forth. Perhaps not when it comes to the texture of the image, but the color and perhaps even the model.

Some examples:
- Making Marth's shoulder guards the ones from Smash 4 had no basis in anything Fire Emblem
- Captain Falcon's colors were clearly based on his Smash incarnations, not his F-Zero appearances
- Ness is the worst offender; there was no regard at all for his Nintendo style, just his Smash style.

Branding this as a "Nintendo" oriented project was somewhat misleading from the beginning; as things progressed, it became very obvious to me that this was just a redux of Smash, not Nintendo. This opinion is largely fueled by my almost obnoxious obsession with making Smash more focused on canon material, but I think I make a good case; I think it's a big mistake to simply emulate Sakurai's work. I feel it seriously reduces the uniqueness of the project.
Thanks for the comments. It was more for a consistency reason that we went with it, since as the project went on it felt more like some characters were extremely simple while other characters were at a weird mid point between. That said, all of this has helped us realize the massive amount of work Sakurai's team puts into making everything look consistent, it's a hard thing to balance!

As for the designs being more oriented to Smash, we were still making them for Smash after all. Some characters ended up having textures closer to their original design, but for the most part we went with Smash's designs since we thought they were more interesting. Smash 4's Marth's darker armor for example helps address the monotone appearance to his design, we really liked that about it, and the classic style Falchion is probably his more unique and known Falchion design which is why we didn't go 100% with his FE12 design.

Falcon's was to help his blue costume stand out. It is a reference to his original appearance after all.

Ness' Smash appearance is oddly more true to his original concept than Earthbound's ingame sprite, for stylistic reasons. And purple looks weird on pants.

Well that's just dandy. If you guys are switching directions, what am i supposed to do with this?  not impressed

Sorry for anything that looks bad. Hope you enjoy. Kirby Dance
Also, Kinda like the direction, but then it just feels kinda like the Vibrant project which is still awesome. Well, We'll see with new textures.
Don't worry! We won't be releasing a Marth update for a while, we wanted to fix a few things with him. It shouldn't be too difficult to update, especially since we'll have the recolour PSDs ready this time as well.

It's great that your reworking the textures to make them more consistent than they should be. Since your "Moderndiseing" the characters in there Smash 4 incarnation, will you be including the Smash 4 CSPs by any chance? I think it would be awesome.

We won't, because then characters not returning will look really out of place. We're not that good at rendering! And for poses, we'll do what we've done up until now, whatever we think looks good.
