Sorry if this is the worng place to put this, or if this has been said before, but for whatever reason, when I use the Smash 3 yoshi in PM, the egg textures go nuts. the egg lay egg has yoshi's textures on them (not the egg's) and the projectile egg has the opponents textures on them.
Yes, the next update will fix the issues with P:M 3.5. There are issues with Mario and a few other characters as well.
You're right, it's very overly simple, but that's the beauty of it. Beyond just overlaying or multiplying the desaturated normals and bumps, you can further edit the duplicated and edited layers to maximize the effect they have on the textures.
Only way to fix the issues otherwise aside applying new shaders for all the models would be having to somehow edit the lighting engine and game itself to accept bumps.
That's exactly what I mean by manual texture work, the unfortunate reality is that Brawl doesn't support bump maps so you have to compensate for that in the textures like Brawl did. That's also why the Smash 3DS models look like they have more depth than these, because the textures are actually done without things like that in mind.
A lot of that work can be done by utilizing the normal / bump maps and if you wanted to: the spec maps.
Put the normal map over the model, desaturate it, use multiple layers with different darkening blend modes and edit as needed and you'll be done, for the most part. The spec maps also provide another viable shading solution, for those that have them.
I realize this, and from what I know that's what most of these are doing, yet it still doesn't have the depth the Smash U models have. I realize the difference is between normals and not normals, but I'm pretty sure normals aren't meant to be used like that...
A good base, yes, but just overlaying the normals and calling it a day seems too simple to me. At least from what I've been seeing.
I think that could be easily solved by making the textures darker overall. Not the best solution but it could be workable until the lighting issue is figured out.
-or maybe the lighting issue has to do with their shaders?
Most of it I'd say is because Brawl doesn't have amazing lighting and because of the lack of normals and such. I think the textures would need a lot of manual work to look decent in Brawl, but I'm not sure a lot of people want to do that.
I dunno, these Smash 4 models don't really run well with the lighting engine. They look bleached or something without all their maps correctly applied.
Smash 4 stages fit more because they have more traditional texture technique, same with Smash 4 assist trophies.
And I thought I was the only one who thought that.
The stages do look amazing, can't really say the same for the characters. 3DS models actually fit Brawl more I'd say.
This should have been the goal straight from the beginning. Inexcusable!
You thought we were kidding?!
Also for updates, we usually post on our Tumblr more now. There's 3 things we haven't posted here yet directly relating to the project, so check it out!
In the pack, some characters have a Fit(insert character here).pac file.
Why?
Does it affect gameplay?
That's the character's moveset file. It affects their...well, moveset. It also has some effect files (sword trails, spin trails, etc.), which is why they're there.
Lots of cartoons are weird when you think about it, but Japan does more weird things than just tv shows, I feel bad for Japanese people because I know not all of them are as perverted/strange as the ones that make the bizarre things that the internet explodes about. It's hard not to make fun of Japan considering how often strange products and shows are made there. O_o
Cultural differences... Really, a lot of the "weird" things aren't even as popular as the internet thinks they are. I guess language barriers don't help.
I may sound like a total noob (which i am) but which gecko codes do you need to load this on regular brawl? is there a gecko cheat file that anyones made up?
I don't want to be bothersome by any means, nor ask about stuff that has been repeatedly asked over the whole time of this project's development,But I want to ask 2 Questions. 1. Is Ike going to have a graphically better Brawl model or Are you going to port the Super Smash Bros. For Wii U model? 2. So does that mean that thanks to the Project M Update we are getting posts in slower pace or you are going to continue updates regularly? Thanks for your attention.
1. New Ike uses a heavily modified model, the Radiant Dawn one was far too different in quality from Brawl. The Smash 3DS / Wii U models are not out yet, so that's not a possibility.
2. As Xeno said, Smashboards usually gets updated more than here for us. The P:M Customized Content Boards that we live in are there, as well as a link to our thread here.. You can check our Tumblr blog for major updates as well.
So are you guys gonna also do textures for the PM alts? Like PJ Ness, Shadow Queen Peach, and Dr. Mario?
Also what is the status of the remaining characters?
Me and my friends have really been enjoying using the Smash 3 PM version, but we wish it was complete. I would totally help on this project, except for that fact that my computer is out of commission at the moment...
Dr. Mario is the only one planned for wifi safe reasons, but the others won't happen. We've already overstayed our time here! The other characters are progressing along well.
