31  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Character Vertexes and Textures / Re: The New Project Mirage Recolor Thread! on: October 29, 2014, 01:18:38 PM
Is that not what a recolour is, a modified costume? I don't think you guys should try to stray from character designs for the sake of change, but that's me. Besides, it would be different because of the shade and hue of the purple, not to mention the sleeves would be different but still fit Toon Link. If not lighter, try a desaturated purple? I'm not sure what else to do to keep it from straying too far, but that's my eyes.

If my opinions are no longer needed, that's fine too.

Project M's Yoshi has pink shoes, while the proposed Yoshi would have normal shoes. It's like this in Smash 4 as well, so it'd be different while still being consistent with the project's goals.
Also, Project M's Yoshi is actually more towards blue, so a slight shift to be more towards pink should be different enough I think.

Xeno's been busy with real life, so I don't expect him to drop by soon. I'll mention again that my suggestions will be for purple costumes, not for mirage, so you guys may disagree.

Toon Link:
First, I'm going to say that I don't think you need an alt version. The original UTCP made the mistake of alt versions too, that shouldn't repeat here.
Use the current "alt" with the purple tunic as the main, and change the sleeves to a lighter, more desaturated version of the purple, like the pants on it. Next, change the pants back to beige, sine the only ones that change colour are a very specific reference to something.
That's all I'd suggest for Toon Link.

ROB:
Do not do Gamecube ROB. I made that mistake before. It just does not lend well to ROB's design. I'd say what you have right now is pretty good, possibly try lightening the purple up and desaturate it, though. vBrawl's blue should be a good reference of how to divide up the colours.

Yoshi: In addition to what was already said, change the belly back to white. Yoshi's belly does not change. The shoe soles don't either, so change those back as well. The shoe's main colour I feel should be switched back to default's shoes as well, as that's what the "official" purple Yoshi has, it'll help the texture feel much more official that way.

This should help with the body hue (under green Yoshi):

Doing all of that the now, Master Sword now has more detail and shading, And the grin is smaller, curved, and more like Smash 4. Also i will get to the belt buckle after that.

Also Taiko, i really must thank you for your texturing tutorial you made, It helped make my textures miles better, Because if i never saw that i would have probably thought my old Toon Link was good.

Really appreciated, (Also to Scout for giving me constructive criticism on my original one, And challenging myself to make a better one)

That was the intention of the tutorial, yes. To level everyone up.

I have to say, you're showing the most promise in this project texture-wise simply because you're willing to sit down and redo everything.

That's why I said I'm not too great with projects like these that apply a universal colour scheme to every character. I tend to go more "default style" and think of palettes that work for the character specifically.

You can have the darker purple he already has, with sleeves close to white with some purple? Or take inspiration from Manga Shadow Link.

Much better, that grin mouth could use work though. And the belt's line should be more round, not jagged like it is now.

The Master Sword also looks to have lost some detail, might want to add that back.

But you're on track, keep going!

Try not to get too alt-happy. I'm not the best guy to ask this stuff (not good at making costumes for projects like this) but the way Toon Link's recolours are, it's always colour + lighter colour for the sleeves. My suggestion would be to do a purple tunic + hat and have the sleeves be a lighter version of the same colour.

And a note on the stocks, they don't need to be 100% accurate, they should be readable as the colour slot's stock. In this case the costume is a purple costume, so making the hat purple would make most sense.

thnk u!! But i'm using WiiScrubber, and there isn't a folder named "sfx" just sound ► brstm.
what i have to do in this cases???
Hmm, I'm not sure about Wiiscrubber, since these files aren't in the game in the first place. But if you were using the SD method, it'd be in pf / sfx, not pf / sound / brstm

Hi... I need help with Pit!!
I downloaded and replaced all the files. But i don't know how and where replace the *.swand file?? HELP!!
Hi there,
First, you'll need the RSBE (Replacement SoundBank Engine) Code to replace voices. Once you have that, make a folder in "pf" called "sfx" and drop the .sawnd file in there. Then everything should work!

Aaah, so you just photoshop the CSP... Is that how EVERYONE'S done it? I noticed the Boxing Donkey Kong in Project M is in the default pose... I wonder how they did it...
They rendered the boxing gloves and bandage on their own, then added them onto the default CSP.

Thanks for the critique to both of you!
I checked ingame to make sure, and while the legs do indeed disconnect, the issue is present on the default P:M model as well:

The model is actually an extreme vertexing of the P:M model, so the rig is still the same, but the legs are far more noticeable on this model due to the size. I think it's less the rig that's the issue, but more that the animation issues are more exaggerated with the larger legs (admittedly, I'm not a model editing guy, so my eyes for this stuff may be a bit off). Though I do agree that it is a bit of an issue, so we'll mess around with it and see what we can come up with.

That awkward moment when you're preparing a surprise update, then you watch the Nintendo Direct and see the exact character looking exactly like you were making him...
Anyway, the Mewtwo update no one saw coming! Within the same 24 hours as Mewtwo's Smash 4 reveal, which was a complete fluke.
Old Mewtwo is still available on the Vault if you still really want it for whatever reason.

When you guys eventually get around to Ike's new model will you also still keep Path of Radiance Smash3 Ike up? i like both Path of Radiance Ike and Radiant Dawn Ike and I can't choose between the two of them.

I'm kind of hoping ranger Ike gets an update to look less like plastic in addition to his hero costume. But I suspect ranger Ike is probably staying the way it is.

We will keep Ranger Ike up, but he won't be updated.

What does it mean to saturate something? Also, I don't have those fancy tools to blend colors or anything; I do my recolors with Paint and Sketchup.(I wasn't planning on getting Gimp or anything, either; I like using classic programs to do recolors. Grin )
Saturation is the amount of "colour" in a...colour. It's easier to explain in an image, so here are two screens from Smash 4, one is a more exaggerated point of saturation than the other.

While the second one does look more "colourful", there is a point where there is just too much colour. The second image is far past that point. Try to aim for the first image in terms of colour, stay clear of the second.

As for the actual tools, I highly recommend something other than those two, Paint.NET and GIMP are both powerful, free alternatives to Photoshop.

EDIT: What ShadowLuigi said.

In regards to the recent release of Kirby, I just wanted to point out that his blush is a bit solid, it goes from colour A to colour B rather quickly. It should be a more soft, gradual shift.
As for the colouring, it might be a bit too saturated, though I'm not sure on this because of Halberd. In addition, the colours themselves are a bit off, most notably on red and green. Red's their bodies and shoes are different shades in Smash 4, vs here where they're exactly the same (or just slightly different).

And for Squirtle, what part of him is "Smash 4-like" exactly? It looks like the Brawl texture, but more saturated. If anything, he should be much more desaturated, as Smash 4's Pokemon take inspiration from the latest Pokemon games.
45  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Character Vertexes and Textures / Re: The Smash 3 Project - Fox Was Cut on: October 21, 2014, 05:12:41 PM
Alright, i reinstalled vanilla P:M and the Smash 3 pack alone.

Testing now.

---

Alright, it works. Thanks for the instructions.
Glad you got it working!

Is Ike's additional model still planned for release despite the onset of Smash 4 and the relatively close culmination of the project?
Of course, wouldn't want to waste a perfectly good model and textures after all.
