46  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Programming / Re: Perfect .Rel porting Progress -Check Page 24, Post #347 - Thank you, PW on: May 03, 2013, 02:36:23 PM
@Linkxp500
I've never had much luck with either of those. And I'm not even sure if it's a Mac related error, anyways, as when I tried to open  it, it said the file was locked, and all the files opened just as text.

Well, I'm no expert with Mac, but normally, Mac computers aren't able to open .exe files without WINE.

Im looking to port lucario over to jiggly cause my lucario is occupied by another psa. Can anyone help me get a perfect lucario over jiggly rel port?... If that is even possible atm..

Check out PhantomWings' posts on page 24 and 26 of this thread.  You'll have all you need to get what you asked for.

The .rel files he provides on page 26 can be edited in the provided program on page 24 using the tutorial he provided on page 24.  It literally takes 2 minutes to set it up and one minute to edit the necessary hex values.

I really hate to be a bother, but I have a Mac and the Module Editor doesn't work for me at all. Would anyone be able to edit the plug and play lucario for me to port lucario over ROB?
Edit: I guess I'll ask for marth over jiggs rel while I'm at it.

Ever heard of a virtual OS, or even WINE?

Both of those allow you to use .exe files even on a MAC or Linux or any other OS than Windows.

Is it the same for BrawlBox v0.67b.zip? That's the one I have.

That would be a definite yes.  I don't know when it was first implemented, but it seems likely that it would have been one of the first, since costume "vertextures," as Mikuru calls them, were among the first kinds of hacks.  So the main reason we create both .pac and .pcs files is to prevent freezing on transforming characters and allow them to be used in single player modes.

Hm, nothing's changed. Could it be because I'm using Gecko OS instead of Riivolution?

Perhaps... How are your sc_selmap.pac and common5.pac named?  If they are sc_selmap_en.pac and common5_en.pac, remove the "_en" and it should at least attempt to read the files.

I'm not sure what everyone else is discussing (not a native Spanish-speaker), but if is anything to do with none of the current hacks by MBHC, I can't even seem to be directed to a page at all (i.e. I click the download link from the Brawl Vault, and I get sent to a page that doesn't seem to display anything but a blank white screen).

Any idea what's going on?

Fixed the first one. And unless Pik read your post and made some changes to his links in the past few hours, there is nothing wrong with the second two links.

Really?  No linkbuck ads?  Or broken files?

Did you try clicking the DL link from the blog post itself?

Fair enough (to all of those points).  It seems like you've all thought about these issues more than once before.  Of course, it's always easier to let things happen the way they have been, and that may be the best thing to do regarding Mediafire and the lack of a spell-checking option.

Okay, so... Say everyone on the site has lost 1-3 every 2 years.  How many users is that?  How many hacks per person (excluding Megaupload hacks)?  I'd say at least 1/8 of all hacks are lost to Mediafire and aren't reuploaded (more than 4,000 hack submissions).  Many of those hacks are at least decent in terms of quality.

This hack isn't broken.  Just tried it and works.

Oh, and Pik still has a few hack submissions that link to his Stack Smash blog posts that link to linkbucks ads before taking downloaders to the hacks themselves.  Not to mention they are both broken downloads as well.

First things first: I don't think people are really influenced by what it says about Mediafire being preferred in the Submitting tab.

From what I've seen from most of the present hacks, Mediafire has become somewhat of a ritual upload destination for most common users.  I know I've seen Dropbox and Skydrive used by the more advanced hackers, but that's because they too realize Mediafire's shortcomings.

I will have to agree that Mediafire is an easy place to download files.  I will also say it's an easy place to upload files.  The thing is, Mediafire has backups of those files to fix links whenever, but it also removes files if it violates their terms of service, which I have not seen as a problem for ModDB, Dropbox, or Skydrive.

And honestly, the only hassle for ModDB would really be the upload and page creation process.  Downloading isn't so complicated, but then again, it may require more than one click depending on where the Brawl Vault link directs to.

As for spell check... There's a way to fix it: Read what you type before posting. This is not referring to your typing, of course, but to others'. I've not seen a forum with that tool implemented and I don't see how it'd solve any issue.

I understand and agree with that fix, but not everyone is willing to type and text differently, and that poses a problem.  And I actually HAVE seen plenty of forums that provide a spell check function, but even that won't always work for someone who chooses to spend little time to make sure his or her message is legible.  It's probably just easier if others just learn how to understand such badly written comments, which, unfortunately, is a hassle for users who type in a proper manner.

tbch i dont see any problem at all with mediafire, just make an account to keep track of ur own links, and have ur stuff back-upped...

And what about those who don't do that?  Surely they should do the same, but many don't have backups or even come around here anymore.  Many good hacks were lost to mediafire that no one else has chosen to preserve before links are broken.
59  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Board Problems, Suggestions and Updates on: January 23, 2013, 01:16:53 PM
You do have a point.  I've seen this happen with images and URLs, but it was never really a problem when we could upload images to the forum itself, which this site apparently lacks or is unsupported for some reason.  URLs were easy to copy and paste into the address bar and undo the word filter's changes if we were familiar with what was filtered and changed into what.

Speaking of images... why is there no attachment feature in posts?  Is it to reduce bandwidth consumption of the server or did you just see no need for it?

Another thing I've noticed is that the hacks are predominantly uploaded to mediafire, which seems to lose lots of files linked from the site.  Couldn't we find a site (if the Kitty Corp site server isn't a good choice to preserve uploads) that is reliable enough to keep these hacks on the internet?  I would suggest ModDB, but I'm not sure how well that would work out.

Well, I have frequented one site that uses its censoring function to change all instances of incorrect punctuation, capitalization and grammar to be grammatically correct.

Examples include typing "i" instead of "I," but one thing that would be irritating would be if you are trying to type something with a more dramatic effect, such as "O...M...G" being interpreted by the filter as "Oh...M...Gee" or however each of these terms are designated to be filtered from one thing to another.

This system of filtering could take a long while to build up grammar corrections as they are frequently used, but it does make it easier to read others' comments if they normally type the way they text.  Still doesn't completely solve the spelling check problem, which probably would be better to leave to the browsers and plugins available.
