76  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Moderation [Appreciations, suggestions, reports] on: September 26, 2011, 11:23:23 PM
...How much time do you think we have?

Either you don't appreciate just how large this forum is, or you're just being unreasonable. Of course we don't go around checking everything. You said yourself that you went looking
Yes, I dedicated a few minutes to check some threads, and it wasn't that much time to be honest but it was enough to find quite some things that needed to be reported...

I do know how many forums and sub-forums there are, but that's the reason why there's a group of moderators, because we can't (and I certainly don't) expect a couple of people to handle all the things that go on here.

But I think part of the problem is the people you have as moderators... some of them are not active, others don't really have much time to dedicate to this place, others don't even care much about the forums in general and only go to certain sections or threads.

I also wonder why you guys decided to have only global moderators... it would have worked better to keep mods for each section...
Making all the mods have the task of moderating globally makes mods address only some things and ignore everything else.
Imo, it would be more efficient to give each mod the task of looking after specific sub-forums.
Assigning the most active sub-forums to the most active mods and less active sub-forums to less active mods.

Which I know I don't have. I'm a senior CS major; my limited time here is largely spent working behind the scenes on stuff, like what I've done lately, and handling reports. I certainly don't have the luxury of looking around for extra stuff to do, especially when I don't care a bit about Brawl hacking anyway.
And we appreciate all that you do here, thanks.

Though maybe we will find a few people to be local mods instead of global, to "patrol" some high-traffic boards. It's something that needs to be discussed.
That's a good idea, and hope you can implement it, it would help you guys handle more parts of the forums.

Personally, I've never been on a forum with these omnipotent moderators who are everywhere at once, you should really lower your standards and realize that we're not being paid or rewarded for this. You seem to always say you're short on time, though I've yet to see it, maybe you should consider that there is a possibility you're not the only person in the world doing something.
Maybe you should stop assuming things and putting words in my mouth.
And I didn't know that wanting a group of moderators to be active enough and moderating was such a high standard.  Roll Eyes

Also, please don't use the "we don't get paid or rewarded" argument, it's been used way too much. We all know it... we're in a hacking community, any person modding a game knows it and can say the same.
If you don't like people talking about how you do a "job" you "don't get paid or rewarded" for... simply don't pay attention to it, or don't do said job.

Oh, and "you have yet to see it"? lol
Since when do people have to prove things to you?

but I digress, ungrateful people causing drama isn't exactly new here. Now as vyse said, were looking into a local moderator idea, but its going to take time to set up.
Calling people ungrateful drama queens again? Geez...
The community loves you too Oizen...
Now please continue defending us from those evil bots that want to sell us things! D:
Or better yet, go troll someone in the family thread, I heard it's fun and one of your fave things to do.  Wink

Why are some of you bringing up old issues? It's almost as if you want another flame war to happen.

I just want to say that bringing up old [censored] from the past, is not a very smart thing to do. I also thought that things from the past were irrelevant? Apparently not.

I just don't get the people who state they don't care, they never cared, they never will care, they only care on Saturdays, but you still talk about it?
Quoted for truth.

Now let's just let it go already. Does everything always have to be so dramatic? <_<
"KC MM
You'll come for the Hacks and stay for the Drama!"

Really, the new post counts are more accurate in measuring who's actually contributing to what this site was made for in the first point: hacking. It wasn't made to be a social networking site.
Sadly, not really.
Many people post spam as well as irrelevant and off-topic things all over the forum.
And because I feel like being dull, I'll say the most clear example is NaruZeldaMaster.

Oh, and there's the introductions sub-forum too, while some people post there to give an authentic welcome to new people, others post for the sake of posting and raising their post count...

Yes, we barely ever get any reports about the spam in these topics. I've even learnt about some of these threads just now. So when I'm saying something silly like "There won't be anymore Spam in any boards where posts are counted, we promise.", I am not "trying to work around the problem". I am just describing a reality that there doesn't seem to be many users that are concerned about that spam.

So if you want things to change, you'll need to be a man and use that report button whenever someone strays off. We don't always hand sanctionsfor reports, you know ? Sometimes, we just make a post in the topic to put things back into order.
But again, if nobody ever tells us until we're all here arguing at each other, we aint gonna go very far.
Now this is something that reminds me of a certain thing I wanted to discuss before...

What the hell?
Do staff people even check threads in all parts of the forum? And you know... actually do their job?
Do you guys have the initiative of checking new posts and new threads?

It gives me the impression that you just moderate if you happen to see it by chance in a thread you're interested in... Or maybe only pay attention when something's reported.

When I had the time some weeks ago, I roamed a little around the sections, checked a few threads, found rule-breaking posts and reported them.
I didn't even need to be searching, I just randomly checked the most recent page in a thread and found them... then how come mods don't do anything about them or even notice all the spam?

Users shouldn't be notifying the staff about everything... and the staff shouldn't rely on users reporting all that happens here.
I thought people in staff would at least have the common sense of "patrolling".

Also... "you'll need to be a man and use that report button"...
lolwut XD

Oh look! Is it war time again?
Oh, oh! Let me gather information and "proof"! And then we can re-assemble the Anti-Oizen Crusade!  Grin

Sorry Miacis, but I think this time you made this whole mess start growing in scale.  Roll Eyes
If it's more of a personal thing, then it should be discussed elsewhere, this thread is about moderation issues, not about the opinions users have about each other.

You know, I've been to a lot of forums where you'd already be perma banned.
lol
That could be applied to many users here, and to you too.

Also, what is it with people wanting to jump into other person's discussions when it doesn't concern them?
Oops, I think I bit my tongue.  Tongue

KTH blocked him....
Oh well, I'm not constantly checking the drama among hackers to know who blocked who and when.
And if KTH blocked him, it's for a reason. No need to make a rant thread about him.
80  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Moderation [Appreciations, suggestions, reports] on: September 03, 2011, 11:24:37 AM
i got warned for this:
http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=32005.msg662690#msg662690

but the words i was using are censored, i mean, i didnt write the words themself, but how would someone understand what im saying if everything becomes a "[censored]"

I know I'm not a mod and shouldn't be mini-modding but...
This is the place to talk about a moderation you received: http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?board=39.0

What you did was censor bypassing, which is against the rules.
When you want to say [censored], you should write the word completely, it will be automatically censored for the people who have the word censor on and it will be shown for those who have it turned off.

To turn the censor off go to: Profile > Look and Layout Preferences, and then mark "Leave words uncensored".

Also, making a topic about your personal issues with KTH in the vertex section is something you shouldn't have done.
There are private messages for a reason.

Speaking of Necroposting...
Reported this: http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=2739.msg646597#msg646597

The user was already warned for necroposting in some old introduction threads, apparently he kept doing it after the warning... so... what's the criteria behind this type of situation?
Shouldn't he get to the next moderated stage for doing it again after being warned about it?

Also, since this thread is about suggestions too, I have one:

Make a set of rules or a "manual" for the staff about how to take action towards certain scenarios of rules broken by users.
E.g. "When someone necroposts warn only the necroposter and close the thread to keep other people from bumping it."

Why do I suggest this?
Because that would make things easier for you guys.

Instead of having each staff member modding as they please (which ends in complains about favoritism and other things); Or to avoid those situations in which nobody does anything because they don't know what to do, or when they simply wait for a "higher rank" to take action (as mentioned and made evident before in this thread), you would have all your "cops" follow the same code and know what to do in the situations.

That way users who break rules would be treated equally, and you wouldn't have to use the "to the moderator's discretion" excuse.  Police
82  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Moderation [Appreciations, suggestions, reports] on: August 17, 2011, 10:27:44 PM
I would like to ask, what's the criteria about action taken towards reported posts?
With this I mean, how do you act when you receive reports? Check the thread to see the context? Eradicate only what is against the rules according to the discretion of the moderator?

And I also wonder... do you have a lot of reported posts to look for and therefore your action towards them is slow?

I'm asking because of this thread: http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=30128.0

As soon as it started to derail into spamming/trolling/flaming, I reported the posts made there.
I suspected my reports didn't work, so reported some posts again... but nothing was made until today, like 10 days later...
83  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Moderation [Appreciations, suggestions, reports] on: August 16, 2011, 09:40:25 AM
The guy was "spared" and only got warned... after that he's kept on trolling/spamming, can't any other staff member... I dunno, do their job and either get him to the next warning level or even temporarily mute him?

Question, does the censor filter work in the personal text under the avatar?
Just noticed that the phrase I've had there for some time is bypassing it.  Roll Eyes
85  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Awards - Names, Descriptions, Complaints on: August 09, 2011, 02:14:57 PM
I have a doubt.
In the awards section of the profiles, the description of each award has the name of the award and date in which it was given.
Can you change it to say what the award is for?
I checked it when I saw I had the favorite'd one, but had to come here to actually know what it was for.

Hm... Mia, you might want to look at this post.
http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=20198.msg628406#msg628406
This is the last time I'll post here today.
<_<

Data, you might wanna do this thing you said:

Anyway... Lets just drop this...

Drop it already, here and in other topics.
You already have the award, so why do you keep posting in a way that can be labeled as butthurt?
86  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Awards - Names, Descriptions, Complaints on: August 09, 2011, 12:07:21 PM
And as expected, we already have drama related to the awards...
I actually expected "problems" to pop out sooner than this, so congrats I guess.

Since when, giving feedback = collaboration/work?

Giving feedback and testing should be considered as giving credit at most, not really a collaborated work, unless they actually worked in the files.

If we see this from another point of view, it's unfair that some people gained the award for working/making a hack, while a bunch of other people got it merely for giving feedback.

But really, I can't believe people are complaining of someone not receiving an award... geez, grow up people, it's just a little picture under your avatar, it's the same if you have it or if you don't.
And don't even try to shield the situation under the "I don't care about the award, but it's not fair" excuse, because frankly, if you're complaining about it, then you do care.
87  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Awards - Names, Descriptions, Complaints on: August 08, 2011, 07:37:21 PM
I don't really like the idea of a 9000+ posts award... I mean, what's the point of having an award that only people with a modified post count will get?

Maybe there's like 2 or 3 people who got 9000+ posts mostly with spam tho.
88  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Awards - Names, Descriptions, Complaints on: August 08, 2011, 10:37:44 AM
Mangaka? I consider them comics, not manga.

Some of these icons are pretty nice, specially the ones related to hacks and hacking teams.

And I don't see the point in keeping the Hakumen awards, but whatever.
89  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Moderation [Appreciations, suggestions, reports] on: August 07, 2011, 04:13:35 PM

Thats nice
And that's spam.
Thanks for making a completely irrelevant and unnecessary post. Roll Eyes

Anyways, wanted to ask if the report to mod function is still failing in some of the subforums.
90  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Moderation [Appreciations, suggestions, reports] on: August 07, 2011, 03:39:31 PM
It's fine if you want to implement that awards thing, but just wanted to say that the mod and admin awards are redundant, you guys already have custom stars and titles that say what staff position you have.

Just saiyan. [/meme]
