It doesn't have to be pure black, you can just have it as a dark and desaturated purple. In fact that's what I did with my Falcon. All the "black" parts are the same color as his main body, just desaturated and much darker.
I agree though that purple/midnight blue should be the main focus, but you can only do so much with base Mewtwo.
Ok, worked on Mirage Mewtwo, and this is the idea I came up with. This is not final. Thoughts?
I think the purple sticks out a little and I am thinking to make it darker.
Here is my progress on Ganon. It's far from complete, but I want to hear some thoughts. I was thinking make the armor orange and the clothes under the armor red.
And I have updated the Crown on Jiggs to have the color everyone wanted. Here is how it looks now.

The crown yes, but for the hat you should leave the fur part default and make the hat orange instead.
I had the idea of making the green part orange, but due to the green texture naturally being darker than our mango texture, the green always shines through somehow. I'll give it a shot though. I am slowly working on Ganondorf, but I wanted to mention the idea of giving Ganondorf a human-like skin quality instead of his original Gerudian self. I know it isn't his original design, but I am not a huge fan of how it looks with Mango armor. Thoughts on the idea?

Sleep Hat Jiggs looks a little weird because of the way the Sleep Hat Jigg's file is set up, I had to take a picture of Jiggs and the hat separately, then Photo-shop them together in order to make it look how it would in the game to a degree. I don't have a copy of Brawl right now, so I have to show it this way.

Okay, you don't have to have purple as a primary color. Your options for Mewtwo's tail are violet, midnight, and/or black to give it a mirage feeling. For his main body, I suggest giving a light tint of blue, gray, or simply leave as the purple tint. Coffe or charcoal are good colors for the armor.
I remember someone (Xeno?) suggesting something like this for Mewtwo, but no one ever did it:
It takes inspiration from Shadow Lugia's colour scheme, so you can incorporate that to make it really different from the default. I think it's worth trying it, at least.
Okay, been working on Mirage Mewtwo and I have some things to say, and show. First, the Shadow Lugia inspired Mewtwo has basically already been made. (Vibrant Mewtwo's Midnight Alternate Skin)
Also, I took others ideas and it is becoming an odd project to work with. Here are some things I have came up with. I wanted to put a little more purple tint around the whole body, but it just looks more black IMO. If we want to use white, we could put a lot more purple on Mewtwo to make it stick out(Like White 2), but someone dislikes the idea of making him a "grape.". Also, his head and body are two separate textures, so if we want more color diversity, we can use that. I wanted to throw around an idea of a "shadow" inspired Mirage Mewtwo because of the suggestion, so here you go.
White 1 Black 1 Grey 1 White 2 Black 2 Grey 2 Midnite Purple 1 Midnite Purple 2
And for an Armored Mewtwo, I really don't want to resort to it because Armored Mewtwo is not any of the team colors, so to have one team's Mewtwo stick out is not right IMO. Now that I have everything I currently have on for show, thoughts?

Sure, I can handle Jiggs/Purin. I said I would do Ganon, but he is HARD to do. There are so many little details I didn't notice, so if someone takes him, I would be Ok with it. And why does Sheik need a revision when he looks good in the picture? He is good for upload IMO.
I am now finished with the re-texture for R.O.B. Any thoughts?

ok Martyr, that Mewtwo just looks almost like the default color, what we're going on with mostly, is giving darker color schemes to the characters. what i think you can do, is look up some other darker or purple Pokémon or other similar characters and use it as inspiration, but like someone said before, the bad thing is that Mewtwo has only 2 color options: body and tail, so, choose wisely
I know it looks similar to original Mewtwo, but I wanted to mainly just say I am taking him and attemting him. He is tricky to do, considering he is already purple. I just did a slight change because it is a tricky project to attemt IMO.
Honestly, it irks me beyond my hatred for spies. You have to make him feel natural you know? The scheme is fine as it is, you know have to add some sort of unique factor into it.
I never wanted him to look like a grape. The way Mewtwo is designed makes him hard to re-color, but I had some ideas and wanted to consult with the group before I attemt them. 1. There still is Armored Mewtwo. We could do something with the armor, but I really want an original Mirage Mewtwo but if we have to use Armored Mewtwo, give me an idea. 2. I had the idea of giving him a texture similar to Mirage Snake's grid design(I might not make it a grid, maybe like hexagons or something) to add a little flavor to make him "pop" if you will. Thoughts?
Hey. Got an update on R.O.B.. Don't know what you guys were going for, so I made 5 different R.O.B.s in order to determine which one you guys like best. Picture might not work, let me know if it doesn't.
Its way better than before, remember recoloring a character doesn't mean you have to recolor the whole thing all the time, when you recolor something that is not supposed to be recolored, you make it ugly.
The color selection is fine as it is, now all you gonna do is to tweak the saturation, in a way, its not intense.
I hate to say this, but I am not familiar with the term saturation. Does that mean how bright the orange is?
