16  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Programming / Re: [Official] Brawlbox Development: v0.68d Updated on: July 02, 2013, 02:32:23 PM
Just downloaded the newest BBox...and I'm liking all the updates! So, about sound effect replacing: is there some kind of special technique to it (à la music replacement), or is it as simple as importing a new .WAV? And do the replacement files have to be the same length as, if not shorter than, the original SFX?

EDIT: By the way...I apologize if these questions are better suited for the "Help" section, but they seemed to be pretty good general-knowledge questions. And I don't think they merit a whole thread to themselves. :/

You have to add the whole sc_selmap.pac for the CSS to work right. Not just the MiscData[80].

Hm, nothing's changed. Could it be because I'm using Gecko OS instead of Riivolution?

Question:

I just downloaded this expansion yesterday (5.2). Everything works fine, no stage freezing, thank Arceus. Thing is, the edited icons don't show up on the SSS. It just shows (Brawl's) Battlefield about 30 times, as if the MiscData[80] was unedited. I did add the MiscData[80] provided to my common5 file, and the new icons are in there. They just won't show up in-game. 'Tis quite odd...
19  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / So, What's New in the Smash Hacks Community? on: February 09, 2013, 10:04:46 AM
I've been out of the Brawl hacking scene for quite some time. I can't even remember the last time I touched my hacked Wii... I miss it, and I want to get back into it. Thing is, it's hard to just jump back in without knowing what's changed. So what better way to find out than to ask the amazing community?  Kirby Dance

Generally speaking, what's been going on with the development and progress of Smash hacks? I read up on the BBox dev thread and notced that SFX hacking is about to get much easier. How about PSA-ing? Is it still a relatively obscure skill? Are one-slot PSAs possible yet, or still just one-slot size mods? Are there codes for extra stages and individual CSS (i.e. Ivysaur by itself) icons that never cause freezing? Heck, is there a File Patch Code more recent than 3.5.1 (other than the super-buggy v4.0)?

I'm not sure whether this would go in the Help / Tutorials section, but I figured that this was more of a "let's get a general update" thread than a "something doesn't work plz halp" thread.

Great balls of Brawl, it works! Victory! Thanks you SO MUCH for helping me. Now, I just gotta figure out how loud to make these SFX... I feel like I've asked you before, but do you have a general volume/decibel level you like to use for SFX, Jaklub?

So! I was finally able to export and listen to SFX from the brsar. BBox v0.63d ftw!

I noticed that characters have some missing sound effects. Is there a second file that has the rest of their SFX? Also, the sound file I'm using has to be shorter than or equal to the sound I'm replacing, correct?

So, back to BrawlBox.

I have a better understanding of what I'm doing, but exporting things from the brsar is still troublesome. When trying to export Samus' collection value ([0FF] RWSD), I got an unhandled exception message saying, "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

By the way, thanks for helping so much

Apparently, SmashBox works for me. Well...kinda.

SmashBox won't let me export the Waves. If I click on something like "Wave0", I always get the "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application" message. It says either, "Value does not fall within the expected range" or,"Attempted to divide by zero." O SHI--*boom*

I'll press continue, as I usually do when I get this error message, but it won't let me export, rename, etc.

None of the waves are playing / previewing when I click on them. Is there any other way for me to figure out which wave is which sound effect?

4. Take a look at the brawlbox.txt file that came with Sawndz, so you know what to export and how to fill the first two fields.
5. Search for the chosen number in the right-bottom part of BrawlBox window.
6. Right-click it and choose export.
7. Open the exported file with BrawlBox.
8. Find the Wave you're looking for. Fill the Wave ID field.
9. Press Insert and select the sound you want in.
10. Test. If it screws up, try exporting your sound in Audacity or other sound editing program and then try again.

And you don't have to export anything from brsar if you want to insert sounds, btw.

Underlined: What chosen number is step 5 talking about? I don't see the same hex numbers from that .txt file in the right-bottom corner of BBox. And yes, the smashbros_sound label is highlighted.

Bold: If I don't have to export anything, why are your instructions telling me to...?

I know that only File Replacement code works, but I still need to know if any additional codes are necessary to make File Replacement work.

The CSS I'm using is just a code that has Alloys and independant Pokemon, Sheik & Zamus icons. It's nothing fancy like Asfink's.

Sawndz used Confusion! It's super-effective!

I'm having a hard time following all these different instructions I'm finding. I have (well, I made some) .wav files, and I want to relpace some of Samus' SFX. Where in the .brsar do I find them?

Also, the .brsar is telling me that it's "Unable to open file for write access" when I want to export.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I'm using BBox.
27  Help & Tutorials / Help / New to Riivo... on: November 06, 2011, 02:39:29 PM
I've just recently made the switch from Gecko OS to Riivolution, thanks to BeyondYou and the recent progress of Sawndz. I know that File Patch doesn't work w/ Riivo, but I don't quite remember how to use the File Replacement code.

I have File Replacement v2.1b. It seemed to work at first, but my CSS code and the code that lets me start a match with just one player weren't working. What other codes need to be on in order for File Replacement to work on Riivo?

What's the recommended decibel level for SFX? I know that music is 95 and victory themes are 97, but...

Yeah, yeah, I have both the .pcs and .pac files. I already tried taking the texture off, and Ivysaur went back to switching in and out as normal...how is it possible to have corrupted .png files?

Nope, didn't fix the down-b freeze... But, what could I have done to the texture to make it freeze on switch-in? X(
