Are you Saying the Forum is gonna like... die in a week? Being so that you control the whole database...
No. I'll be able to help in my free time but, if this situation continues and I do quit... no one will be around to fix technical issues when they happen. In that scenario, the forum WILL be dead until Dantarion does something --- if he even is around / wants to.
Nothing has been resolved and everyone is just angrily yelling back and forth and pointing fingers. Someone wants someone to pay, or someone wants someone to shut up for good. No one is trying to just come to a calm resolution where we can just go back to communicating positively and peacefully again.
It's kind of sad really...not the mention damn outrageous. E-drama, I swear. - -'
It's pushing it under the rug, sure, but well see below.
Honestly, I don't see how a mass ban would help this situation. True, people may cool off during the ban... but what's stopping from them from coming back and starting this whole ordeal over again? It's a big mess either way, really.
Good point, and while that may happen... I see it as my best solution.
1) The guys I trust to handle the situation have already quit or want to quit because of this crap. 2) One alternative is killing the Family Thread in every way, shape, or form. (And I see that ending very badly) 3) Third alternative is a complete staff overhaul. (Again, outside of a select few... I don't know who I can trust that would want the job thanks to this)
If you've got a better alternative, I'd love to hear it. Of course, if it takes too much time / effort... still face the issue of getting someone to handle it.
Anyway, end of discussion. All further posts that are not helpful (attempting to rectify the situation) will be deleted; all posts critical of other members will be deleted and their posters will be banned for 1 day minimum.
...While I don't really care about anything that's going on...
Really Picano? You're not going to try sorting this out just because you "don't feel like it"? What's the point of Jack leaving you in complete control of the forum if you're just going to be lazy and not do anything? No offense, but sheesh, if you hate the job that much, quit and find someone else who can do it, or just let the clusterf*** of a forum and staff decide amongst itself who should be head honcho. I mean, if that's how you feel, then what happens might as well not concern you one bit.
Not trying to cause more damage than needed...Well, I don't care if it does anyways, but you come off as sounding like you just don't want to do anything, and that it's not your problem. Normally, it wouldn't be at all, but considering who you are here, just about everything it. -.o'
Unless I'm just missing something here, cause I tend to do that.
I'm in control because either no one wants the position or I don't believe they can handle it. -Vyse: Quit. -Jack: Vanished for a long time. -Miacis: Quit (somewhat) -Dantarion: He hosts us but he's not a very reliable guy (see: BrawlTex)
There may be some trustworthy people on the forum but I neither have a way to figure out who nor do I want them to despise the community as much as I do at times like this. --- A friend once said, "Never staff something you enjoy".
As far as why I'd rather mass ban people than investigate... it is all subjective; I can read as many posts as I want, review as many logs as I can, but I'll never find a single objective view as to what has happened. Oh, that and I'm a senior in college / will be working a full time job in about a week.
Further more... unfortunately as the problem branches into staff territory (hell, admin territory) none of my logs are trustworthy. So, in my opinion... I feel it best to mass-ban and let everyone cool off a bit; the alternative is leaving KC-MM in the hands of someone I may not trust, possibly dooming it completely either due to further drama or catastrophic database failure.
Anyway, it has already been said once... but I'll repeat it. This thread is for appreciation, suggestion, and reports. No need to drag this topic into any current drama.
And my two cents: People on both sides of this are taking themselves way too seriously. While rules should be followed by both the staff and the general public, the rules are there to stop serious issues --- not to be the source of petty squabbles.
That said, I'm not gonna spend my time sorting out this issue. I've 'retired' once and never really have come back; I'm here because I have near-absolute control of the forum and brawlvault database (right under Dantarion) and the only people I've trusted with such control have either quit or are considering it.
So... everyone, calm down. I'd rather not ban people (I'm normally the most lenient guy here...) but I have no problem banning, at least temporarily, a good chunk of posters AND staff if it'll quell tempers a bit.
Baltimore Biking Club? Berkshire Boys' Choir? Big Bad Cow? Big Beef Creek? Big Block Chevy? British Born Chinese?
Though, it is possible... and pretty easy... descriptions were left as plain text for a reason --- they aren't really supposed to be flashy or even all that long.
Suppose I could add bold, italic, and underline though.
Comments are relatively easy on their own (reuse forum code). Rating up and down per either hack or comment would be a space issue. (And, one of the reasons the blog is so damn resource intensive >.<)
I'd rather not host files here, both for liability reasons and because... it would be a hell of a lot of files. Since the vault started, we've gotten over 15k submissions. At ~1MB appiece, that would be ~15GB of storage; music and stage files tend to be multi MB...
While the storage itself isn't much comparatively... the bandwidth would be some high multiple of that. And while I don't believe we have a limit to worry about... that would affect site performance a bit.
As for collab searching... I could fix it to be a separate search but it's not high on my priority list. I guess I could add a checkbox to the search, but it'll have to wait for my next break.
As for collab edit / delete. That's not going to change. If you can't trust your collaborators enough to 'collab' instead of 'credit' them, then you probably shouldn't be using their stuff.
and i was just pointing it out it....gosh..........and the argument should be over cause i fixed the pichu problem......and no he did not say that from what i saw........
Ok... then we need to keep it over so no one gets banned...
A bit too late for that. Anyway, gave both of them 5 day no-post. (KTH for a report, Nekomon as seen here)
Hum, I wanted to know something other, when you make an sfx packet, are you totally forced to make a preview or not? Because I saw some sfx packet with no preview so I thought I could do the same... But it seems not to be the case as my sfx packet was reported. So I would like to know an answer about this, because honestly here I don't understand...
Eh... you should, but it isn't quite as bad as not having a music preview (as those are easier to do). If you can, record a video of the hack in action with the sfx, otherwise, just make a compilation clip of the sounds and put that on youtube (or similar source)
Of course if I use an sfx packet made by someone, I will add some changes, there will be sounds that will be used, but I think I will change at least 6 sounds, in order to match a certain Psa. Of course again, the creator of this sfx hack that I will have modified will be credited. But the main reason because I ask this is because even if I ask his permission, I'm a little afraid to not have any answer...
As I said, I'm not entirely against submissions without permission, just the little edit (and even then, I suppose 'collab' status is good enough as download count is shared and the original creator can delete it) to nothing at all scenarios.
Before I get checked out for something i didn't do, I want to report that in my Download for Overdrive that there is nothing in it that isn't credited or wasn't given permission to use.
I've already had someone say that i've use an texture from someone, but it is only used in the video that "Bat Tom" made for me. If this is an problem i will tell him not to use texture in farther video's.
From what you've posted, it sounds fine --- if ya want to be sure, link me to the exact hack.
