121  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Brawl Vault Problems, Updates, and Suggestions on: March 17, 2011, 03:02:39 PM
I will use this situation between Nekomon and KTH to ask an information, just to be completly sure.

Those rules, saying that the textures or vertex can't be used without the permission of their creator, does it apply too with sfx hacks?

Technically anything by anyone else you should ask permission --- but I'm not fond of the rule myself. As long as credit is given / significant changes have been made, I'm fine with it. (Adding sfx to your texture/model is fine IMO, combining several others work without any of your own isn't)

Next person to post on the Nekomon-KTH situation gets 1 week ban.

It should have been finished but it's quite obvious that it's not.

Nekomon: Go into your profile options, PM options and ignore KTH. Watch out for similar hacks in the future, any hack of yours (made after this date) which is claimed to have stolen material will be deleted, no questions asked.
KTH: Give it up already. Vile put it bluntly but it's for the best. Your hack is not worth being so overprotecting of it. It's not bad, but it's not exactly God-tier.

It's all handled by a real person so... it can take a bit. There are several people with approval ability but all of us have school or work...
124  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Brawl Vault Problems, Updates, and Suggestions on: March 16, 2011, 02:17:09 PM
...What? Are you serious?

He stole my hack/texture, idea and he continue and you do nothing, you say just : I like Nekomon's texture far better.

Okay, thanks.

I'm sorry?

I'm just calling it as I see it. IMO, significant changes have been made. It's the same base idea (and you can't exactly claim copyright to an idea alone).

I'm all for protecting a unique hack from theft by the lazy but I do not see that as the case here. We are all modifying copyrighted material here in one way or another without the explicit permission of Nintendo.

it LOOKS like i used it as a base....but there is such things as lookalikes.......i still made it from scratch...plus,why would i EVER use one of his textures again after what happened with pichu???

And either way, both of you can stop right here. I may not be right, but I am the law here. I'd rather encourage new work than stifle it.

And i've see their latest texture and... Look :

BODY :

The eyes are same, he use my texture for base and another not change.

Those are attributed to the correct person, right? If so... I gotta say, I like Nekomon's texture far better. Much more refined.

It may have used your as a base, I can't deny that but honestly --- I don't give a damn. If a significant improvement is made and proper credit is given, I say it's fine.

I'd rather not have permission be analogous to copyright, where an improvement is cast aside due to the stubbornness of the original creator.

Actually... I saw that when going through the reports. When I first tried, it just kept refreshing the page --- it seems to work now. So... not sure what's up.
127  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Brawl Vault Problems, Updates, and Suggestions on: March 03, 2011, 10:32:33 PM
That would work, but it would also require additional storage for every single hack and an additional command every time the hack is downloaded.

While it doesn't seem like much, multiply that by how many downloads happen each minute; so now both storage and processing are increased by some multiple (I did try recording downloads and matching to IPs for about a day... the log was already several MB)

I can get it to work... but almost every way has an undesired storage or processing sideaffect. The blog's past issues (sql connection overloads, pages simply not loading) were pretty similar to what I worried about; the blog stores tons of information per comment... even more when ratings and such are involved.

yeah but still... like theres an Orcarnia Codes tab already on the vault but its just not linked to anything...

It been no link to anything for almost a year >.>

Blame Jack.

Top doesn't count collab credit. With how it's set up, it's actually impossible to factor that in.
Wait, so isn't the collab thing basically useless then?
And how come that's impossible to factor in?
It calculates per user and comes up in searches.
Explaining why it doesn't work on the main page be hard.
Harder than it'd be to implement it?

I still want to know.

I'll put this as simply as I can.

A brawl vault entry is stored as...

HackName, ByUserID, ..., ..., ..., CollabUserIDs (comma separated)

In a user's profile, I can search for all hacks just by...
Select count(*) FROM BrawlVault WHERE ByUserID = # OR CollabUserIDs LIKE '%#%'

It'll return any hack with said user's number and count them up.

But... the stats page uses a different query

Select count(*) FROM BrawlVault GROUP BY ByUserID

Which... simple groups all hacks by user ID and counts each set individually. It cannot be done with ByCollabUserIDs easily as it would have to search every single user individually, roughly 50k searches, compared to 1.

Blah, screw it. Re-enabled imageshack.

It might not be visible to some people... but I don't have a better alternative in the mean time. So many people can't figure out how to copy-paste a damn image link from another site! Geez! >.<

Either I annoy the people using image shack or the ones that don't. The middle ground? I annoy both.

Sorry, but for now it's just this way. I don't have the time to do something better.

^Haven't fixed that up, busy but... now you can nolonger change your upload name.

Anyway... run into a bit of a wall with IMGUR upload. To be able to upload... either the user will have to copy the resulting link themselves (not as useful) or upload to the server first...

Hey people, I'm having trouble with imageshack here in Brazil, I never liked that image sharing site, but it is(was) simple to use, because of it's api.
Well, I used imagehost to upload my images before, but the site is down.
After this, I started to use imgur, a great, fast and well designed site, and after a quick search, I found this: imgur api.
This can be useful to KC-MM right now Smiley

^ My exact story Cheesy

Imgur api Awesome Face

Correct links:

imgur.com

http://code.google.com/p/imgur-api/wiki/ImageUploading

Maybe this will work too? http://api.imgur.com/

Ok, that looks like it should help. I'm not sure how quickly I can get around to coding it in though... Right now the upload works as so:

Imageshack upload fields are an iframe with a simple upload field + submit button. Once submitted, it returns a page with info / javascript; this copies over the returned thumbnail and full-size image urls.

^That's both in case someone wants to whip up a demo.... and so I know what the hell I have to do later on. Tongue
135  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Brawl Vault Problems, Updates, and Suggestions on: February 23, 2011, 09:17:47 PM
I can't change it.

Imageshack had an API in place that let me upload directly. Unless someone codes one to use another site...
