Who knows... I do know I'll be finished with high school in a week's time, however. That means I'll actually get to work on ripping MGS3 textures. There are so many revisions of the GSdx plugin to try through... mariokart64n, if you're still watching this thread, could you please roughly state when you managed to rip textures from PCSX2 correctly? I could find an older copy of Adobe Photoshop on Ebay in order to follow your colour reversal method, perhaps...
Ah, I see. Thanks for you're help on this.
Eternal Yoshi, can I have Fatman's textures from MGS2? I'm thinking about putting him over Wario. Wario would be a good Fatman, all he needs is a vertexed off moustache, no helment, and a vertexed suit. I'd be pretty cool.
I'm also fixing Irishladdie's Liquid Snake. I remembered I got Liquid's textures.
I happen to be pretty much done with a balding Wario that you can use in your Fatman hack.
The Down Air hits weird because the tails bones do not go as far down as the model's tail. Thats because StarWaffle used Charizards last tail segment to make the Tip Spike on Ridley's tail. The only way to make it hit lower is to offset the hitboxes, which iv never got to work since whoever made PSA has NO IDEA how x, y and z axis are supposed to work. If i offset something -5 y, it should go down by 5 of whatever the scale is. Not towards the screen, not up, not to the right, DOWN. The only way i can figure out how to offset it down is to test each axis until i find the right one, which takes forever.
What if for his final smash he went flying forwards (similar to marth)and pins down the first character he comes in contact with. He could then bite them a few times and does a flip and slams them with his tail, sending them flying upwards.
Yeah that would look pretty cool. Need to find someone with experience editing final smashes though.
*EDIT* Just looked through Boss Ridley's attacks and none of them really work on Charizard. Even after fixing the proportions they just look wrong for some reason.
That stinks... Do you think it would be any different if you took a look at Meta Ridley, or do you generally think that importing Boss animations onto Charizard is a no go?
I wish I knew some way to help you guys the the other stuff but I know nothing about animating. I'm VERY handy with vertex edits though, so if we ended up having to make some minor edits to Starwaffle's original vertex in order to say... fit Boss Ridley's bone structure or something along those lines, I could do that. Although tampering with perfection is a risky undertaking.
Right now his Dair has too small a hitbox. I know it's supposed to be a meteor smash but it's literally impossible to connect with without basically being inside the enemy and begging to be owned. Maybe stretch his tail out a little further for the animation and extend the hitbox. Also, why not use some of his Boss animations for the ground pound attack and the side-b dash?
Done with the vertexes needed on Shiek's model? I'll send you textures from MGS:TTS when you need them.
Haven't even started... Lol. I want to emphasize the fact that I'm really supposed to be filling out college applications right now. And you already sent me the textures so don't worry about it.
I'm with you Eternal Yoshi, Shiek's a chick. But by god if we start that debate here I will lock the topic and all of this will have been for nothing. Don't think I'm bluffing! The fact is shiek is flat chested and Psycho Mantis is weird and creepily asexual looking anyways, so Shiek's gender is really of no consequence.
The reason I suggested Shiek for the Mantis Vertex was because her scarf could be turned into the gas mask and she's actually got a better match in terms of body type than Snake does. I'll try it with Shiek too when I get a chance. It's been hell at school for the last couple weeks, I promise I haven't forgotten about Sniper Wolf.
ONE PROBLEM. He's TINY right now. Samus is taller. He needs a one-slot size mod like Viewtiful Joe to make him proper Ridley Size. When he gets a super mushroom, he's just slightly bigger than Bowser, which seems about right to me, so if somebody could find the bones or animations that control the the super mushroom size switch, we could play with those so that it's on all the time for Ridley. Or we could do the one-slot size mod if anybody knows how to do that.
Oh, no need to do that, it's not the complete face and Mariokart already ripped the full splitter face a while back. I was just doing that to show Friedslick what I could do.
I'd rather get Snake's proper colours instead of guessing them. Tonight I'll try a later version of 3D Ripper DX and a different version of the plugin I'm using, and fiddle around until I find the best combination.
I'm planning on asking mariokart64n about it as soon as they come back, if I don't work it out myself.
It's not guessing, that's not how the tool works. Trust me it'll be indistinguishable from the real deal. This is what I just did in about five minutes with the picture you just posted without really taking any care to touch things up like I would with the real textures:
Obviously if you can get the palettes working then this is no replacement, I just don't want you to have to go through a lot of extra work when we can easily get the colors through alternative methods.
I've got the textures for Snake, but not the appropriate pallete. I'm so close. I feel as sad as Snake looks...
If that's the only problem you've got left, then I'd say we're there. I'm sure somebody who knows more about 3Dripper could tell you what's wrong, but I can easily fix the coloring using photoshop color picker, color replacement, and screenshots. Just send me what you've got and we can have Snake done unless you'd rather wait until you can figure out what went wrong and try again. Since mariokart64n got a rip of eva and snake, try asking him if he ever had the same problem and how he fixed it. Apparently the only reason he didn't just rip the whole game was because he couldn't get Eva's nude to properly model so he lost interest... lol.
Irishladdie, could you take the SAME model and shorten the headband to his neck? It looks weird being so long and all.
Also, how is Sniper Wolf going? Any progress?
Unfortunately no, I've still only got the face. I've just been really busy with school this week. i'll try and do the hair for you before I go to bed tonight.
Hey xxTerminatorxx, I've been trying out the lastest version of the MGS:TTS Snake a bit more. After a while, I noticed something looked odd. Doesn't Snake's neck look elongated? It doesn't show from a downwards angle, but in views such as the second picture you can see a noticable length between the start of his neck and the top of his collarbone. The vertex hack of his collar might be improvable in my opinion.
As the one who did that vertex hack, that's probaly as good as it's going to get. There's only like four vertices to work with in that neck area, and in order for it to look like the collar of his vest unfortunately there had to be some inevitable texture stretching. You might be able to compensate for it if you edited the place on the texture where Snakes collarbone is and smeared it a little bit in the opposite direction that the vertices have been stretched. That's the best solution I can think of. That's why I just had that whole area grayed out on the texture I included with my original edit was because the neck looked weird.
By the way Friedslick, how goes the texture ripping?
I think I'll still put DMTV on low priority for now... Well my computer can run MGS3, just checked. It's so cool . I'll make time to attempt ripping from it tomorrow.
Simply by being able to run it, you're already waaaaaaay closer than I ever got! Good luck!
Heh, the last few posts really do sound like an advertisement for the MGS series. So, to wrap this up...
You should buy other games from the Metal Gear Solid series, today! *smile gleam*
Did anyone here know there was a massive parody of MGS3 in Ape Escape 3 called "Mesal Gear: Ape Eater"? I couldn't help but laugh when I saw some videos of the gameplay. I should really consider buying my own backwards-compatible PS3...
Not only that, but MGS3 has the "Snake vs. Monkey" minigames where you play as Solid Snake and chase Ape Escape Monkeys through areas from MGS3. It was some crossover promotion Kojima did with Ape Escape.
If you haven't played MGS3, you really need to. I haven't played MGS4, but I've played through the other 3 multiple times, and MGS3 is easily my favorite story and gameplay wise. There are just so many little details to the gameplay, and the story manages to be sort of profound without being overwrought and crazy like MGS2's. It's probably my favorite game of all time, I really wish I hadn't broken my PS2. You can get Subsistence for like ten bucks at most Gamestops. No excuse, you're one of the biggest contributors to this thread.
Thank you for the compliment... It makes me feel good to know I am making a difference.
Sadly, I only own one system that supports a Metal Gear game. It's a Gamecube. It's the Twin Snakes. But that's not gonna be the last Metal Gear game I get, I'm getting a PS3 and MGS4 for Christmas. My Dad tells me the chance of that is 100%. I can't wait.
I watched some MGS3 clips on Youtube, and they are, very good. In your opinion, I see that MGS3 Substance for PS2 is what you would prefer over MGS4. If I was going to get a PS2, I would get Substance and Sons of Liberty. But maybe next year if not this year, since my parents won't get me a PS3 AND a PS2.
And if you get MGS2, you might as well get the "Substance" version of that too, the extras are lots of fun. Plus, I wouldn't really call MGS2 a great "game" so much as a great "experience", there's good gameplay there to be sure, just not a lot of it. The special edition fixes that with TONS of extra missions and stuff. I sound like an ad.
I'm not equipped to speak on MGS4, so I can't vouch for or against it, but from what I hear, it's basically a 9-hour movie, and when you do actually get to play it feels too much like a regular military shooter unless you're playing on the higher difficulty levels. This is what I hear from MGS fans. The gaming critics obviously all thought it was infallible. Again, I've never played it myself, and if I ever get a PS3, I'm not going to let anybody else's opinions prevent me from trying it out.
On the subject of Brawl Mods, all of my MGS-related projects are basically on hold until you guys can figure out whether or not the texture rips are possible, but I am working on something some of you might find interesting. I'm about 2/3's of the way through vertexing Snake into Earthworm Jim for eventual texturing and PSA/Animations, the problem being that I have no experience at all in either PSA or Animations. Any Earthworm Jim fans on the thread? PM me if you're interested. Sorry to get off topic. Back to MGS. I am technically using Snake's model...
