Item Menu Hacking Help?

So I'm new to hacking and I've got it pretty down, the problem is common5.pac freezes my game no matter I do with it so what I do to edit CSPs I just edit my sc_selcharacter.pac, my real problem is because common5.pac freezes my game I can't edit the Item Select Menu, I can use common3.pac to edit the textures in game, but not the icons on the select screen. So my question is, is there anyway to edit the item select menu without using common5.pac? Because I can't seem to get  it to work without it and I've been messing around with it for a day now. And that's longer than it usually takes me to figure out these hacks by myself and there's no Item Menu tutorials anywhere.

As with all files, take the "_en" off the end.
