Swimming freezes my game

Whenever any character I use touches the water, the game freezes. I don't know what's causing this problem

That's an odd glitch. Did you add anything to your Brawl recently?  Maybe around the time the problem started?

Check normal brawl and see if the freeze is occurring there as well. It could just be a problem with your disc (assuming that you are using a disc).

Otherwise:

If you added any new codes, remove them and try again.

If you edited either of your common.pac's, replace them and try it again.

uhmn no... if it was his disc it wouldn't freeze, but he should get an error message like, "the disc could not be read" or something, I guess

if it freezes when playing without hacks its probably your savefile

It doesn't freeze without hacks. Must be something to do with my hacks.

Edit: It froze for me a while ago. I have been basically avoiding places with water for quite a while

Edit: Nevermind, I found the problem. It was something to do with my smash_sound.brsar. I don't know why that was the problem
