Can't pick certain characters

Ok so this has actually been happening for a while now, but I'm having some issues when I try to pick certain people. When I have my hacks on if anyone so much as touches the border of Falco's box the game crashes, and regardless of whether hacks are on or off if I try to start a game as Sonic or Snake I get the "Game Disc could not be read" screen. They've been completely cleaned out of any hacks so I'm out of ideas. Anyone got any idea of what's going on?

Your Wii's disc reading lens is most likely dead.  That tends to happen after a certain number of years.

Really? Every other aspect of the game works fine, and this kind of thing never happens for any other game.

yeah, wii's crap out after awhile, especially with brawl, because its a dual layered disc.  Looks like you'll have to start loading from usb

The same thing happens to me with Fox even though I have no hacks no him.

my friend bought one, It did clean the lens, but brawl still didn't work...
