Pokémon Hack?Color Me Confused (Great Delimma or Noob Question)

I love Brawl hacks. They're creative and original. I have at least 1 hack for almost every character. So now I've moved on to items. I got to Pokéball, so I found this hack to replace the Pokémon that come out. And after about 30 minutes I ask:

HOW THE FLUANDFIGDAN DO I!?!?!?!??!?!?11/!/1/1/12?1/?!?!??!?!?

If you have used gecko before and have all the folders and directory's use beyondyous XML

I use his XML and it doesn't change my Pokemon or assist trophy characters..

Item hacks works like a texture/PSA hack for a character you need a Common3.pac and open brawlbox then open Common3.pac and replace the item with the item you downloaded.

I tried looking around my common3.pac, but the name was true. It was all just common things like shockwaves.
