using terminal and mono on the mac to add sound effects

I have a mac and I can't use the Smash Attacks program. I've tried opening the Fitcharacter files with Terminal but it just says that it can't open it. I have downloaded Mono Frame... but have no idea on how it works. If anyone has used terminal before on thier mac, please reply. PLEASE!:)
