Pac and PCS...what's the difference...can I convert?

What's the difference between these two files?

I downloaded some files that only have a PAC file...will this work alone?

It will only work in SSE, Boss Fights, Multi man brawl, and Target Smash... You need to open Brawlbox and change the None format to LZ77 format

None format?

All I did was go to "save as" and chose the other type(.pac/.pcs) and it seemed to work ok.
