How do I make the character selects the characters i'm replacing them with?

Ok, so I love customizing my characters and everything but it kind bothers me when they don't change on the character select screen so i was hoping someone could help me do that.

Well to begin what are you looking to replace specifically. The portrait of the character on the character selection map, or the portraits when changing the color of the character ?
