Hey everyone, I'm new here and like the title says, I need some help. These might be stupid questions or already asked/answered questions, so anyone who can answer or tell me where to go to find the answers would be much appreciated. So here it goes.
I've been looking through the brawl vault the last few days, and I want to try to get some of the texture hacks. But, I'm a little skeptical about hacking. So, I don't want to just jump into hacking without knowing what I'm doing. Also, I want to take the safest possible way I can. So here are my questions:
1) Do I need to get Hombrew?
2) Could installing Homebrew brick my Wii?
3) Is Homebrew the only thing I need to texture hack? (Along with the codes of course.)
4) Can I take the Homebrew channel off my Wii at any given time I want, and do it safely?
5) Once I get the texture hacks for Brawl, is it still possible the play Brawl the original way (with no hacks) at any time?
6) How much of risk am I taking by trying to texture hack? (I do not want to make any texture hacks myself. I simply want to play with textures from the Brawl Vault - and that's it.)
------
Thanks!

Follow my instructions below, and you should be okay. Everything that you'll see below is mentioned in the WiiBrew Wiki.
1: You will most likely need to install the Hombrew Channel (HBC) onto your Wii. To do that, you need to use the following exploits...
*Twilight Hack (System Menus 3.2-3.4) *Bannerbomb (System Menus 3.2-4.2) *Brawl Smash Stack (all System Menus) *Indiana PWNs (all System Menus)
You must also get hold of the HackMii Installer, and place the file, boot.elf or boot.dol, onto the root of your SD card.
2: It's very unlikely that your Wii will get bricked if you install the HBC.
3: There's Gecko OS and Riivolution. Of course, Gecko OS is an easier program to do texture hacks with.
4: Yup. Either delete it, via the System Menu, or use the HackMii Installer to uninstall it.
5: Yes. Just load the game, via the System Menu. The game does update your Wii to System Menu 3.2 if your System Menu is lower than that (which is quite unlikely at this point).
6: The risks of texture hacking are extremely small. The worst thing that can happen is an occasional game crash if something goes wrong with certain files.

So I can use this Gecko OS program without Homebrew and still be able to use texture hacks? If so, are there any tutorials regarding using this program without homebrew?
Sorry for bumping an old topic if it's against the rules. Thanks in advance!

There's a way to use hacks without ever installing homebrew. If you don't want to deal with risks, or pesky system menu updates that remove homebrew and can make re-installing a bit complicated, then you can load GeckoOS through the custom stage creator. I recommend downloading Balanced Brawl (bbrawl) at smashmods. It has everything all set up and all you have to do is copy everything onto your SD. From there you can replace the movesets and textures you don't like. The only downside is that you cannot have any custom stages at all on your wii or SD card (besides the code that the disc interprets as a stage).
Hope this helps. Just ask anything else you need on this thread and we'll do what we can.

Bannerbomb is better, less likely to brick your wii. Google it.

Uh... I think my SD card broke. XD My computer's not reading it. Everything seems to be working with the game, I just can't get my computer to read my SD card anymore. What could I have done wrong, and is there any way to fix it?

No, it's not locked. Also, I think it has something to do with my computer, since it's not loading my regular SD card either. It's not the first time my computer has refused to read my SD cards.
EDIT: Nevermind! I fixed the problem. Instead of ejecting the SD card, I "safely removed" the removable disk drive. I restarted it and it's all back. No worries.
Now, I just have one question.
What is FAT32, and do I need it?
