    what i mean is, say i wanna recolor Mario's green alternate color and turn it into say....orange and with black overalls, but i still wanna keep the detail in the overalls and such, how would i be able to do that the same way everyone else here does it, i'm using Gimp by the way

    Use either Hue-Saturation or Colorize to recolor parts that you've selected.  To make things even easier, create new layers so that you don't accidentally recolor areas that you don't want recolored.
