Has anyone tried to swap the ItmCommonParam data of 2 items? Is it possible to, say, replace a useless item (Erm..... maybe Mr. Saturn) with, say, another gun by changing the ItmCommonParam data and the model?
Just speculation, but it would be cool to replace some items.
Progress so far:
Swapping the data seems to only partially work. Part of the item's normal function stays. For example, swapping the data of Mr. Saturn with that of a ray gun makes the item stay stationary, but it can't shoot, and acts as a throwing item...

Not the best idea due to how strict the file size limit of common3. It MIGHT be possible, though only if the item being replaced is the same size or larger than the item you want to insert.

Very. Put it over the original file size and the game will greet you with a BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP of death.
It's a bit less strict when using Riivolution IIRC.

What if it's under the original size? Will it still death-beep?
Also, I thought that it just froze the game at the strap loader.

Shouldn't beep but don't be surprised if it does

yeah, even if its the same or under the original filesize it can still crash, but new items would be worth a try.

I made the modifications to the file, I'll test it as soon as I get home from school.
I expect it to crash XD

Curious results. I swapped the data of Mr. Saturn with the ray gun's. The game did not crash, and the item made the sound of the raygun when hitting the ground. It didn't walk. But, when I tried to shoot with it, I threw it and it acted like Mr. Saturn, until it hit the ground, where it made the ray gun hitting the ground noise.

Well, it could be the single itmParam Miscdata, but I have another theory, though it's probably not correct:
the brres data is divided with Type7[30] data. Maybe it's only possible within those bounds?
Probably not, but it's a possibility.

I'm not going to lie here, I had no idea what ItmCommonParam meant.. I thought it was some useless stuff and I did come across the idea is held the attributes of an item.
This means somone could make Snake's SOCOM pistol over Mr. Saturn!

XD Possibly, though the swapping seems to only partially work.

heck, even partially swapping could still turn out awesome. *explosion sound whenever Mr. Saturn is thrown* lol.
But anyways, good work on this so far; I hope this can be figured out further. It'd sure be awesome to be able to create new items (and/or "clones").
