This is rather a stupid and simple question, but I was recording a replay for someone who doesn't have hacked Brawl, and the replay had nametags; how is that possible? I didn't even load up Gecko so how are any of my codes like Save Tags In Replays even functioning?

No I'm pretty sure it doesn't because in the past when I viewed replays it just had "P1" and so forth above the characters. I always had to record while doing a live Brawl match just so I could get my nametag on my video. Also, there wouldn't be a code for it if Brawl normally uses it.

Im taking a wild guess here...but it could be possible that...for some reason, the codes were loaded without Gecko...sounds crazy yes...but its possible

If the code's name is save tags in replays then it must alter the replay that you have saved

Really? Hmm... If the code's name is save tags in replays then it must alter the replay that you have saved
But the code can't get activated unless I launch Gecko which I didn't and it still worked.

I'm not sure what you mean in the OP.... do you mean you were recording it on your Wii?
This is entirely guessing and speculation, but some codes have repercussions and consequences that extend beyond Gecko and can affect your gameplay even without Gecko.
If you've ever had a My Music problem; that is, a stage's music is messed up and causes freezes, even on My Music, you'd remember that this freeze occurs even if Gecko is not loaded.
And the fix does requires a code to be in your GCT. You'd think that the code would always have to stay there, so the problem STAYS fixed. However, you only need to use the code once and its effects remain long after it is removed.
Maybe these could explain why? Really, I have no idea, try it one more time?

Could possibly be repercussions -- that sounds like a reasonable idea.

Maybe somehow the data is stored in a system file or save file?
That's the only thing I can think of.
