I have installed many stage hacks months ago, but now I can't seem to install most new ones so maybe I am forgetting something obvious.

Whenever I install a stage hack, and I load the stage, the game freezes at the stage select screen. Sometimes it seems like it is just taking a long time to load, other times it makes a horrid noise. The console must be unplugged and will not turn off. I have gotten one stage to work, but I did the same thing for the others so I am confused. It may have to do with rel files.

I install stages to the folder pf/stage/melee. I tried to install a stage over rainbow cruise. I placed the downloaded file "STGDXRCRUISE.pac" in the melee folder. It also came with an rel file, so I put that in the pf/module folder. The name was "st_dxrcruise.rel" I load using Gecko OS and an SD card. When trying to play the stage, the select screen froze and it did not load.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

You don't seem to do anything wrong. Just tell us which is the hack you downloaded with that name.

I'm actually having this problem too. I was looking for someone who had the same problem because I knew there had to be one. Tongue

Anyway, I think it's because of .rel files though I'm still really new to this so I'm probably wrong.

I installed about 10 stage hacks the other day and all the stages I used a .rel on freeze and make the horribly piercing noise he's describing.

I got any stage I installed on Final Destination to work and that's pretty much it.

However I put a stage over mariobros (The FAMICON level) and the music I set for it worked, but it still showed the mariobros level.

I hope I didn't hijack your thread, just trying to add my bit.

oh haha never saw this one,
but anyways, make sure you have the rel files, named them the right way and mak sure they are from your region Tongue
if you're a pal user and are using a ntsc rel file, it freezes, so if you're pal search for a program called stage switcher, get some pal rel files, and use stage switcher to make your own editted rels so you can use all the stages:P

They were properly named and I'm an NTSC user, but it seems to be that after looking around a bit that they're "Final Destination" based.

Am I only allowed one FD based stage or is it something else? I tried using the levels without any .rel files and the two I tried worked fine. (64 Intro Desk over FD and Strobe Pictochat over Pictochat)

I assume if I keep messing around I'll eventually figure it out like I did characters, but the levels are really frustrating due to that god awful sound it makes.

EDIT: I've discovered it is any .rel I try to use so it's simply something I'm not understanding from all these guides I've been looking at.

well that's why we use rel files, because, for example, if its a stage based on Final Destination, it would normaly only work on final destination, except when the creator says it goes over other stages without rel files.

so then we just edit the rel files so you can use for an example final destination based stages on every other stage:P

Well yeah I understand that I can only have one stage OVER FD, but I read a thing that said "FD based .rel file" so I thought I could only have one FD based .rel.

With that aside, any stage I've tried that didn't need a .rel I could use flawlessly so it's definitely something wrong with the .rel that I don't know how to do.

Just for clarity purposes, do I have this set up right?

And thanks for trying to help. I do appreciate it.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. I went back and reread the noob guide for like... the 30th time and found out I had the module placed in the wrong spot.....
