I've been struggling to learn how to install sound mods with Sawndz, and it has not been a fun experience.

I'll insert the hex packets correctly, with Sawndz telling me they were correctly inserted into my bsrar. When I get into game, none of the announcer sounds I added work (just the regular brawl announcer), and when I start a match my game freezes. The mods I've been trying to use were all downloaded from brawlvault:
-Cloud announcer for Ike
-Sephiroth announcer for Marth
-Cloud soundpack for Ike
-Sephiroth soundpack for Marth
-Goku sound pack (the newest one that is just a .sawndz file, this I was able to install just fine)
-Volnutt sound pack over ROB (this one just never works)
-Volnutt announcer (female announcer that came with the volnutt pack)

What am I doing wrong to cause these crashes? I correctly put the hex number thing into the offset box and inserted, yet all this trouble is being brought onto me. What can I do?

Riivolution. I also have my XML set to read my files from the standard brawl folder (inside the private folder on SD root). In fact, a lot of these sounds were working just fine earlier before I tried using the Volnutt soundpack. After I messed up on that (announcer calls were mixed up, overlapping on other ones, volnutt's sounds were high pitched and squeaky), I downloaded a clean bsrar and tried to install them all again. This time none of them worked.

No idea. I'm pretty sure I installed it correctly, I pasted the offset in each filename into the offset beginning box in sawndz, clicked insert file, selected the hex file, and it supposedly installed without a hitch.

You mean the traditional Hex Editor method?
Do sound mods these days work with that method still? I got the impression they only worked with Sawndz.

    - Take a clean brsar.
    - Open Sawndz 0.1
    - In Hex packets and .sawnd files, type 1A in Group ID field.
    - Click Insert. The one in the middle. Select Sepiroth pack.
    - Type 27 in the same Group ID field.
    - Click Insert. Select Cloud pack.
    - Type 28 in the Group ID field.
    - Click Insert. Assuming you're using NTSC-U copy of Brawl, select volnuttusa0191AEE0.hex file from USA brsar folder.
    - Click Insert .sawnd and insert Goku's SFX.
    - Announcer calls probably came as .wav files (if they didn't, reply). In .wav insertion, in Group ID field, type DF.
    - Type 31F in Collection ID field.
    - Type 34 in Wave ID field.
    - Click Insert and select the Volnutt's announcer call.
    - Type 16 in Wave ID field.
    - Click Insert and select one of the .wavs from Sepiroth announcer call pack.
    - Type 33 in Wave ID field.
    - Click Insert and select one of the .wavs from Cloud announcer call pack.

Alright, I followed your guide step by step. Here are the results:

    -Announcer calls are working
-Goku's soundpack works, but playing as either Cloud, Sephiroth, or Volnutt causes the game to freeze once I try to attach (playing a sound).

Have you tested the characters before you installed SFX (this is, have you assured the mods you had are freezeless)? If yes, I'll investigate further.

Yes, I have tested them beforehand and they have worked just fine.

Also, prior to these problems occuring I accidentally ejected my brawl disc while on the character select screen without turning the game off (this is using Riivolution). My common5.pac was corrupted from this, but I fixed it. Could any other of my brawl mod files have been corrupted from this?

Sorry to double post, but I did some extra testing. Sephiroth seems to work just fine with his sound pack installed (though I'm not really hearing any new sounds. Well, voices that is). Seems to be that the problem is isolated with Cloud and Volnutt.

That seems like the most likely thing, but I DID use a clean bsrar when following Jaklub's steps, and the problem still occurs.

Edit: I tried reinstalling Riivolution using the guides and XMLs posted in the tutorials section, and now I just get a black screen when I try to launch brawl with riivolution. THE PROBLEMS JUST KEEP PILING UP

Double Edit: Got it to launch by changing some of riivolution's settings. I get the strap menu, but after the loading screen once the opening music begins to play (but before you see the opening video), the game freezes. AAAARRGH

scratch all that I fixed it. So, I guess the problem is just the bsrar. Doesn't make sense since I've been using clean ones..
