Note: Please don't say "lol you're doing it wrong" or anything like that, that just makes me like not impressed. Cheers.

Hello fellow members,

I have a problem that has been annoying me eariler today. Here's what I have:

> Nintendo Wii (SysMenu 4.3E)
> Smash Bros Brawl PAL (Genuine, DVD9 Version)
> Smash Bros Brawl PAL (Self-made trimmed version, DVD5 Version)
> PAL File Patch Code v2.1a
> NeoGamma (for booting trimmed version & legit version)

I am using my self-made trimmed PAL Brawl version because I want to keep my original disc safe and also, I have beat adventure mode and don't wish to complete it again, so that's why I'm using a DVD5 version which just has the SSE movies removed/nulled out. Both are vanilla, no mods have been "hard-baked" (ie. the DVD5 version is the same as the DVD9 only without the SSE movies).

Now, I have been wanting to try out some level mods that I know used to work. Here's what I have got - all from the vault so you can download and try them out yourself.

NOTE: Crash Type 1 means a looping loud "horn" (crash indicator?) sound thing playing when the game attempts to load level data and crashes. Crash Type 2 means that the game gets to the "Now Loading..." when setting up the levels and then either bombs out with the horn, or the smash orb stops rotating and the game freezes.

Here's the list:
  • XP-Tan Stage: WORKING (No crashes)
  • Melty Molten Galaxy (over Norfair): FAIL (Crash Type 1)
  • Delfino fixed (stock Delfino with fixed collisions): FAIL (Crash Type 1)
  • SM64 Lethal Lava Land (over 75m): FAIL (Crash Type 2)
  • Shipwreck Cavern (over Pirate Ship): FAIL (Crash Type 1)
  • Shipwreck Cavern (over Jungle Japes): FAIL (Crash Type 1)
  • Uncharted Region of China: Untested
  • WTFBattlefield: FAIL (Crash Type 1)
  • SM64 Peach Castle: FAIL (Crash Type 1)

Is it because I'm using the File Patch Code that causes these annoying crashes? I have used Riivolution in the past but it doesn't work with my DVD5 version (since it's burnt, not an original). I also find that my DVD5 version loads a little faster at times (?) than the DVD9 version. I do have Riivolution on-hand, if anyone needs me to do something with it.

Any advice would be appreciated and if we can get a solution to this issue, it would make my day (and have another happy brawler!).

Cheers,
Cubeburner.

Okay first, your disc is not going to be damaged by using brawl hacks...

Second, use the File Patch code for pal
    http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=28076.0

So you didn't have to make your own disc and stuff, that's just pointless and time waisting...
And about the stages, if some work and other don't you are just renaming the files wrong or the stages just won't work for you because of the rel files (the rel files everyone includes are for the ntsc-u disc, they aren't compatible with the pal disc :p)

Thanks for that. I am using the 2.1 file patch code that is listed on the resources page of the vault, so maybe that's to blame. I will try 3.5.1.

Most of the stages don't have .rel files and are named correctly. For example, delfino fixed is "stgdolpic.PAC" or something like that. I will post a dump of the filenames on my SD card under the pf folder. As for the .rel files, can I get them to work with PAL somehow?

Also, the reason that I use my dvd5 version is that I have a habit of leaving discs out and before I know it, the disc is scratched, the wii can't read it and all that jazz.
