    [censored], those models look like [censored] without their normal maps...
    I think that the basic textures are essentially the "specular colour". The game mixes that with the alpha channel from the normal map to get the appearance it takes in-game. It's kinda strange, but interesting. And also makes it really easy for others to do recolours.

    I'm actually working on Chrom right now, and I was actually surprised with his textures, they're super un-detailed, all of the detail goes on using normal maps, which I'm pretty sure you can't use in Brawl. So I tried my best at mixing the normal maps and un-detailed textures to make it like the original:



    He's actually over Marth, he just fit over him so well, and since Lucina fights like Marth, I figured it'd make since that Chrom does as well.


    Lol Kaze's chrom actually looks better. What are the odds?

    Please tell me you're gonna give him expressions and moving eyes. I don't wanna see any incomplete models from SmashU :c

    And his cape looks... really off. Either normals or overlapping objects, I can't really tell.

    Then make your own expressions, or average the normals. Simple.

    For the cape, try setting it to Cull_Inside.

    we ripped the files ourselves.. thats how we're getting the models.. but in this case.. i've been giving ppl models.. but now RTB is uploading every character/trophy model

    On the models resource right?

    For anyone looking to import the Smash U models, I figured out a nice way to get the diffuse textures looking good.

    Here's a sample. I'm using Marth's tunic texture:
    Original texture:

    Here is my process (Photoshop only):
    First off, copy the normal map to the original texture. If the normal map is larger than the texture, adjust the diffuse texture's size to match the dimensions of the normal map, hopefully using the Nearest Neighbor filter under Image Size.
    Select the normal map's pixels, make a new layer and fill with White.
    Change the layer to have the Overlay effect, then select the normal map's pixels again.
    Invert the selection, make a new layer under the white-filled layer, and fill it with black. This one doesn't need a layer effect.
    Adjust the transparency of the two layers as needed, and there you go! Oh, and don't forget to either delete or hide the normal map. Also keep in mind: THIS DOES NOT WORK WELL WITH SKIN TEXTURES.

    Have a sample PSD, once again of Marth's tunic:

    I wouldn't say that. If the model had all it's normal maps and textures on it... It would look a lot better than what Kaze did. Not trying to put down all his hard work. His looks great. I'm just saying... I don't get why people are trashing on these models. They aren't meant to be in a lesser version of Smash to begin with. What were you all expecting?

    @Satoshikura: It can work well with skin textures, you'll just need to use a different blending mode for the skin, and Ctrl+Shift+U to grayscale the normal map, then cut out the portions not pertaining to the skin.

    Though I have to admit I'm surprised how pervasive the normal maps are in this game..

    Would you consider making an Ike version so he can be used for the Chrom PSA? If not I might end up doing it.
