How to have an alternate file

Something i liked to do in Melee is start over, and get all the characters and stages again for fun. Is there a way to do
this in brawl without deleting what i already have? like saving or loading on a SD card rather than directly on the wii? i already tried using savegame manager, didn't work.

Its been a while since i posted this but i still want to know how to do this.

I don't think there is. The options in brawl only erases records, SSE data, vault data or everything. And I don't think there're any codes that alter the save file directly except the unlocker codes.
