I know that we can add more stages with an expansion, but I really want to know if we can add more characters, because I want to add more without loosing many original characters that I like. It can be make it or not?

I don't think a character expansion is possible. If that were to happen, that would affect the Character Select Screen which means adding more icons, CSPs, names, etc.
