This is a video I've made to show how I make my rim lighting characters.

I want to make the rest of the original Brawl characters, so don't use this tutorial to make those, please.

Just use it with your imports. It'd be cool if you made a rim lighting version of every character you release from now on.

Hey everyone, was wondering if it was possible to combine the rim-lighting effect with the cel-shading method described in this thread .
I've been working at it myself, but haven't really seen any favorable results.

If anyone has alternate approaches or work-arounds, I would greatly appreciate it.

Well, I've never done it, but it should be possible. Get a model with the cell-shading effect on it and just follow the rim lighting tutorial over that one. If you get into trouble, I'll try it too.

    Thank you for replying.
I think the reason it hasn't been working out well on my end might be because there's no shader stage with RasterColor for  ColorSelection C. I went ahead and added the new shader stage anyway and changed the value on the preceding stage to RasterColor, followed all the other steps for rim-lighitng, and the in-game result was a flickering model.

I'm still trying all sorts of different combinations though, so any other advice, tips and such are appreciated. Thanks for the help.

edit: Took some time, but I was able to achieve the effect. I used a very different approach to achieve it but the effect is mostly the same.

It's as if you didn't add the 'Edge' texture to the textures folder O.o

The name can be anything you want.

Have you put the HasTextureMatrix value on true in all possible cases?

Hmm... I think the Rim Lighting looks great! Just... Can you tell me how to tone it down, though? I think it's a bit too much on this import :

Probably you forgot to change some value in the shaders. I can take a look to it for you if you don't find the issue.
