I am attempting to port strikers Luigi over regular Luigi as my first real hack. Everything was going fine up until I started rigging his feat.

As you can see in the picture, one the vertices on both his feet are attached. This is not an issue with the weights. So my question is this. How can I separate the two vertices without breaking the model? I tried to simply delete it, but that caused later errors while adjusting the weights and exporting.

I am using Maya, but I have access to 3DS Max as well.

    save skin
    go to verticies modifier,
    break vertice that is welded
    that should fix it
now go back to skin and reload saved skin

Is that for Maya or 3DS Max? I can't find "Save Skin" in Maya.

How would I do it in 3DS Max? I swapped over to 3DS Max 2011 and I still can't find save skin. So I am probably just overlooking something.

Go back to Maya. It's nice and easy. Shift-right click on the vertex, and an option menu will pop up with "Split Vertex". Click it. Then go up to edit, delete non-deformer history.

Thank you very much. That did the trick.
