To start with, I'm not exactly a noob when it comes to loading up hacks. I've been accustomed to Gecko for the longest time, and I've decided to try and switch to Riivolution

Problem is, I must be doing something wrong.

I followed the guide here and I can't seem to make anything work. When I tried renaming the files with the _en it froze up with the buzz of death when I tried to get to the menu. Enabling the file replacement code seems to do nothing at all and won't load up any of my hacks.

Is there something I'm missing here? I'd really like to use riivolution so I could start using custom music on Giygas Lair and the Master Emerald Shrine

    With riivolution, don't use the file patch code. Also, don't use Riivolutiong 1.05. Do you have a xml file for brawl in the riivolution folder on your sd?

    Use this xml. https://www.mediafire.com/folder/undefined/    Put your stuff in /minusery/pf then the others. You'll also need https://www.mediafire.com/folder/undefined/  put that in the root of your sd.

    This was the thread you read right?
    Couple of questions that'd probably help understand your situation better:
    1.Do you have codehandler.bin?

    2.Could you post your xml that you're trying to use here?

    3.Which _en files are you trying to load exactly? I'm guessing common5 right?

    4.Under riivolution's folder on the root of the sd card do you have a folder called "config" with a xml called "RSBE"?

    1. Yes

    2.
    <wiidisc version="1">
       <id game="RSB" />
       <options>
          <section name="Files">
             <option name="File Code Replacements">
                <choice name="Enabled">
                   <patch id="filecode" />
                </choice>
             </option>
          </section>
       </options>
       <patch id="filecode">
          <folder external="/private/wii/app/RSBE/pfmenu2" disc="/menu2" />
          <folder external="/private/wii/app/RSBP/pfmenu2" disc="/menu2" />
          <folder external="/private/wii/app/RSBJ/pfmenu2" disc="/menu2" />
          <folder external="/private/wii/app/RSBE/pf" disc="/" />
          <folder external="/private/wii/app/RSBP/pf" disc="/" />
          <folder external="/private/wii/app/RSBJ/pf" disc="/" />
       </patch>
    </wiidisc>

    3. Specifically the Character Select and Map Screen _en. I...actually think I don't have a Common5...that might be the problem

    4. Yes I do

    Well that eliminates the the more common problems to why this won't work so that's a start. The xml looks fine from what i can tell and it's telling the game to read from where the file code replacement structure essentially which i assume you haven't changed the folder structure since switching right?
    Also are any mods loaded at all? I just realized you never specified if other hacks worked as you said it was only _en files

    Yeah I haven't changed folder structure

    As for mods, you mean like, gameplay mods? Only real mods I have are texture, model, moveset, and stage swapping. None of them loaded when I tried Riivo

    That's really weird it should be working and nothing loads at all?
    In your riivolution folder the xml is placed there correct?
    Also does your RSBE config file look like this:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <riivolution version="2">
      <option id="FilesFile Code Replacements" default="1"/>
      <option id="OcarinaOcarina Handler" default="1"/>
      <option id="OcarinaCodes" default="1"/>
    </riivolution>
    Sorry if i'm asking too many questions just trying to narrow down what it could be

    I'd rather have too many questions than none at all

    I just tried it again. Apparently my mods DO load, even my custom music! The only thing that doesn't load is the CSS and the SSS. Though I know you're not supposed to use the file replacement code, but it works so whatever!

    Sweet this'll be easy then
    Download common5.pac from here and put both files that modify the CSS and SSS into by right-clicking the respective files INSIDE the common5 and save it under system but remember to add the _EN to it

    It worked! Thank you!

    One more question, I remember reading that custom sound effects for characters won't work with the file patch code. What do I do in that case?

    Glad to hear
    Since you're using riivolution it should work without any issues just place the custom sounds where you need to and it should work fine
