1  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Programming / A brsar that's incompatible with BrawlBox on: May 26, 2015, 12:58:30 AM
I know the BRSAR stuff is pretty complicated but I feel I should mention it anyway. And though mostly not related to Brawl, the sounds could be easily accessible for Brawl mods.

The Xenoblade Chronicles brsar (snd.pkb) has around 900 rwav sounds, however they don't play in BB. They're standard rwav files, my guess is that there are many(48) rsar files appended to it. Separating them manually does work but the audio still doesn't play, they are read as rseq, perhaps another potential reason is that there is no rwsd to store the sounds and maybe BB is counting on that to work correctly?

Here's a link to the file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3n0o50i512bt6k0/snd.pkb?dl=0

I understand if this is off-topic but BB is the most advanced brsar tool around, then again it no longer works with my PC, either way doing things with a hex editor has proven to be quite effective and flawless.

Regarding what I said earlier the actual code works, I believe the Custom Sound Engine is the problem, which simply doesn't work with SDHC unless I use Riivolution.

It doesn't seem to work for me.

What I'm trying to do is:
CustomSoundEngine + Oshtoby's Song Loader = Custom Stages with music
Since music takes a lot of space I'm using a 16GB card and with riivolution it works but with gecko it has never worked unless I use 2GB or less.

So I put the code and the stages are still silent, could somebody else test this idea?

The op says it needs the file patch code, this will never work with Riivolution?

No; it won't work, read my post again.
*Brawl doesn't support SDHC, fpc uses Brawl's SD code. Therefore no SDHC support.
If you want to load mods with a 16GB you need Riivolution.

Maximum SD size is 2GB so use that for the File Patch Code.
CFG has SDHC support yeah but that doesn't mean SSBB will.

Gecko OS is not the problem; it's the file patch code that is limited to SD.
This is because:
-A loader/launcher reads the codes from a gct and patches them in the Wii's memory.
-The file patch code uses Brawl's function to read SD cards.
Simply the File Patch Code won't work if launched from an SDHC because SSBB doesn't support SDHC, other codes will work from an SDHC but FPS won't.

*Riivolution works in a completely different way, which makes it compatible with every Wii game and not just Brawl. Also allowing SDHC support and games that don't have SD support in the first place.

Heard fpk and got overly excited.
These fpks have TXDs inside them but I never managed to view them.

I've used both Riivolution and a modified iso with wit, I used Mewtwo2000's batch to fill the empty costume slots with fitchar00s for the iso(in my case wbfs with --split), I get no freezes whatsoever.

Riivolution does however silent freeze at SSS pretty much at random times.
My guess is I should have all the files ready in the SD card, otherwise there's a chance it will lockup.

The only drawback with a modified iso seems to be the Custom Sound Engine will not work with the files already in the iso, only via 2GB or less SD card + FPC.
Sort of unnecessary limiting.

Will BB be able to edit other things in RSAR like change brstm names or add more ids/externals?
If we could edit that stuff the Custom Sound Engine would no longer be needed.

This isn't working for me. When I type in the name of the folder I extracted my iso to for the CopyCharFiles batch, it keeps saying it can't find the path at all. I even tried doing a more detailed and literal path and it still couldn't find it. What gives?

I just have the folder named "Brawl" inside of bin.

Try: Brawl\DATA\

I'm not sure if you were joking or not but if you're keeping a collection of rsars; here's Haruhi Suzumiya no Gekidou:

For whatever reason if you need any other RSAR to test on, this pack has two.
One is the Wii system menu brsar(1MB) and the other is from some other Wii game(16MB).

I'm okay with either RSAR or REFF the others sound like they'll take a long time to do.
