1  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / I officially throw these ideas into the public domain on: April 22, 2012, 07:40:27 PM
Hey it's Toastoftriumph (Mariofan1138) here.

First off: this is NOT my personal request thread.
I've had several creative ideas that I've wanted to do for some time, but I'm unfortunately not too great with keeping on top of my own started projects... and I lack experience in certain fields of hacking.

Anyways, I've decided that if anyone wants to use these ideas, they're welcome to them.

-----
-Death pose/animation replacing the lose animation (victory screen).
Pretty much, instead of clapping, characters are lying dead on the ground, maybe with a sword sticking through them if they have one, or whatever. I've debated whether or not they should simply lay there, or fall over as soon as the victory screen pops up... however, whichever approach is up to you if you want to use this idea.
Additionally, characters don't have to be "dead" per se, so having Ganondorf's leg twisted unnaturally, and him twitching in pain on the ground would work too.

-Sneezing, coughing, (etc) taunts
I thought it'd be hilarious to make a character sneeze on command during a Brawl match. I don't know what I find appealing about it... it's just so obscure and pointless.

-"coin" foods
Foods are replaced with health restoring items like coins from the Mario series.

-taunts/other moves that interact with the camera
For example, Fox shoots at the screen, Snake, during his final smash, shoots over his shoulder while facing the screen, etc.
I'm not sure if the animation is shared with anything else, but the one when characters smash into the screen would be neat to change to something humorous (a character waves as they fly past, someone claws at the screen trying to grab onto something to avoid falling, or gimmicks involving weird body parts/ accessories hitting the screen, (Mario's hat falls past the screen, with Mario falling a second later), etc).

-top hat (bunny hood)
A top hat (or any other accessory) replaces the bunny hood item. It'd be even more neat if the item itself was entirely useless; that is, it had no effect on running speed and jumping height.
------

Anyways, feel free to comment and critique these ideas. I'd appreciate it if you'd post a comment if you plan to use an idea from here.
2  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Timeline (Brawl Hacking) on: January 28, 2012, 10:08:53 AM
Project: Timeline of Brawl Hacking

Introduction:
Brawl hacking has been around for a while, and has definitely progressed quite a bit. I can remember seeing previews of the first vertex edit, when at the time all we could do is change textures. Extreme advances in programming, such as those in Brawlbox, or techniques like character rels, have been crucial to allow amateurs, with no knowledge of programming, to create art.

----

My idea; we make a timeline of significant improvements within Brawl Hacking in general. It would be amazing to be able to look back and see how far we've progressed; as well, it would help out returning users (on a hiatus) find newer techniques.

My suggestion is that a wiki format is used for the timeline, or someone that regularly visits the forum starts a topic that would keep track of new achievements.

Criteria to include:
  • PW's code releases
  • CUPASH and other stuff releases, with their features
  • Brawlbox (each edition) release dates and new features
  • Newly pioneered techniques
  • BV landmarks, including the date of the 1000th download, etc
  • when a major Brawl hacking website was created (or taken down, like in Syntax Error's case)
  • generic stuff, like Brawl's release
  • ...
Feel free to give feedback, criteria suggestions, and talk about anything else in relation to this topic.
3  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Error 500 (bandwidth issues), users moving to other forums on: October 14, 2011, 02:18:44 AM
Hey there.

Increasingly, I've noticed the issue of "Error 500" messages recurring (which, correct me if I'm wrong, are due to bandwidth issues). Several users on the forum have decided to move to other sites, including those in LST. I'm not here to condemn their behavior or anything; it certainly is frustrating to put up with these issues.
However, what if we took the initiative to solve these problems and prevent unnecessary splits in the Brawl Hacking community?

Assuming that the Error 500 issues can be resolved by paying for higher bandwidth, we could all "chip-in" and donate a bit of money to keep the site running smoothly.

The purpose of this thread: is it worth donating towards, and would you yourself donate? If so, how much?

Whether or not this idea becomes received well is not my concern; I'm more here to get opinions and responses on this idea.
Additionally, I don't know much about the finances of the site, so if Picano or someone else central to kc-mm could comment concerning these, to put things in perspective, it would help a lot.
4  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Homebrew: File Moving and Renaming Application? on: August 27, 2011, 05:51:35 PM
Unfortunately, my dad's computer lacks an SD card slot, so I have to go to my mom's to add new stuff or toggle on and off what movesets I want.

Is there a Homebrew application that would allow me to copy files from my USB to my SD card, along with renaming files on the SD card? It would make things a lot more convenient for me, and probably some others as well. Even if you have an SD slot on your computer, you could use the app to toggle on and off movesets, and avoid starting up a computer solely for that purpose.
As well, it would be easy to rename a file you know is causing freezing.

Anyways, is there such an application? If not, is anyone able to create one? I don't have much experience programming, but I'm sure it would be relatively simple to make.
5  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Stock Match, with winner determined by KOs minus falls? on: July 21, 2011, 02:26:34 PM
Is it possible for the winner of a stock match to be determined by the same criteria for a timed match? I'm not sure how much editing has been done in regards to this, but it would be an interesting method of gameplay.

One advantage is that it punishes camping players that don't bother attacking, but survive until the end. Just as in a timed match, those with the same score at the end would fight in a sudden death match.

Feel free to discuss the implications of such a mode.
I'd appreciate it if someone could say whether or not it's possible, or (even better) if someone is willing to step up and make it.
6  Help & Tutorials / Help / Question about symmetry in 3ds max8 and compatibility with brawl on: April 19, 2011, 09:29:19 PM
I figured out how to add symmetry to polygons; my question is, will the model still work for Brawl (even with the same number of vertices)?
7  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Character Vertexes and Textures / Mariofan1138's hacks: 5-18-11 WIP Stage, preview (sketch) on: June 14, 2010, 12:44:53 AM

Welcome to my hack gallery!
Feel free to post comments, suggestions, and if you want, requests. Just don't expect every request to go through. I take my time on textures, so I chose selectively in order to release decent hacks that people will (hopefully) like.

News/In Progress and Future Hacks

Stage: Penthouse Construction

(above: preliminary drawing)

I'm currently working on a stage using the stage builder block method. The textures are from scratch, so it'll take some time; however, I haven't run into any technical issues so far. Hopefully things work out.
Before creating the theme of the stage, I created the platforms' layout; I believe this allows a more enjoyable stage. It's a penthouse under construction; it has a balcony and sections of glass roofing, along with a chandelier box (on a pulley) and crane holding up a sort of metal scaffold. It's going to be animated (the box and scaffold move, along with part of the glass roof receding).

Progress:
model vertexing:
far left balcony (out of hexagon)
lamp (stacked capsules, rectangular prism, hexagon)
diagonal railing for scaffold and stairs (hexagon)
semicircle for window (hexagon? capsule?)

textures:
chandelier box: front/back, sides, top
walls
floor
ceiling
elevator and panel
doors
railing
crane (some parts will be 2d)
scaffold
lamp
background balcony/window/curtains
other

Other:
I made a pikachu vertex, turning him into a hamster. However, I have no idea how to export pika's model correctly; nothing seems to happen despite the directions working correctly on other models. If a method comes along that can work, or if anyone wants to take a shot at it, it's possible I'll release it in the future. Please note that the texture is not completed. (I planned to do 4 colors; brown, black, beige, albino w/ red eyes)

(above: model in 3ds Max)

OLD:
I don't know if everyone reads all the threads on KC-MM, but I posted somewhere else about a tuxedo Captain Falcon in the works. I'm using a subzero body with the helmetless falcon head, thanks to AfdroMan; subzero doesn't have C Falcon's annoying collar. I'm a bit busy with school and stuff, so I'll let you all know if I'm getting close to finish. It might be like, 10% done? Idk.

I'm running into a few problems with his body still. His body has abs vertexed in his model, which distorts the contours of drawing a tuxedo on him. If someone could vertex a chest for him that is completely smoothed out/ flat along where his stomach is, and between his pecs, then I would really appreciate it.

Here's the mediafire for the model AdfroMan combined for me:
http://www.mediafire.com/?dzp2ztxt8p7pnc5

Edit: I may or may not pick this up at the moment. The whole pikachu situation has made me wary of character vertexing for the moment, so whether or not I do this in the future is still undecided.

Ideas
from most likely to least ("your ideas" at the bottom is unintentional  Smiley):

Police Mario v2
a simple vertex revamp, mainly for the hat, along with a touch up on some textures

Cowboy Mario
Mario Party 2

Clone Troopers
Republic Commandos
Stormtroopers

(Star Wars)
C. Falcon/Samus modeltexture
perhaps by using the existing Boba Fett vertex

(Your Idea Here!)
leave a request in the comments!

Metaknight's all dressed up, wearing a top hat, white shirt, black suit, and a red bowtie. Thanks to Lensho's Count Bleck base, and Apprentice of Death for making the final model, along with numerous edits and other help. I'm really pleased how it turned out. There are two versions, silver eyes, and normal yellow ones. Hope you enjoy!

This is my first hack!
DasDonkey team's Mario Mafio inspired me to make this.
He has a blueish-purple police uniform, with black pants and gloves, and numerous details.
